Jamie watched Malakai quietly, the anticipation swirled into the measured beats of anxiety that rippled through his chest and he wasn't convinced Tommy had been right about this. His own upbringing had been so fucked up- how the hell was he supposed to know how to be a good father himself?
He seemed so small stepping through the doorway, Jamie couldn't help but soften his gaze- the kid deserved a safe home. A place where he could just... exist and not have to scrape by the survive. Jamie set his file bag on the back of a chair and turned back just in time to catch the way Malakai's brow lifted in curious suspicion. "I never thought you were stupid." Jamie stated directly, his own brows furrowed down slightly and he pressed his lips together then pushed them forward with a soft shake of his head and a faint shrug. "No catch." he knew this had to feel like another setup- Tommy had gone over this with him for weeks if not months. But it was still daunting. "Sometimes things are free though... certain things. I guess not everything, but certain things. Like...this. You wanna look around, check out the rooms see which one you want? I can... cook you somethin' or we can go grab something you like instead." he swallowed his nerves and exhaled softly. "There's... snacks if you prefer that but I don't.. I don't think that's a good idea to just load up on those. Unless you want to." Jesus... this felt weird. He didn't want to rule over the kid, but it couldn't be a free for all either, right?
"You into movies?" Jamie asked, leaning against the kitchen table. There's an ice cream place not far- they've got a fuck ton- they have a lot of ice cream flavors... and they show movies on the side of the building when the sun goes down. What do you wanna do, Malakai?"
@lymbycsystem Semi-Plotted Starter from Malakai

Malakai stepped into the house slowly as Jamie opened the door for him, his bag slung over his shoulder. It didn't have much in it - just a few trinkets he'd pick-pocketed off the streets, the dog tag necklace his mom had given him, and a few new outfits bought by that detective that had helped him escape Jakob's.
He looked around the front room for a moment then turned back to face Jamie. His arms folded across his chest, brow perking. "So, what's the catch, huh? I'm not stupid, you know? There ain't nothing in this world that comes free."
#chaosfindsaway#c; malakai#c; jamie (the outcast son)#v; it's little and broken but still good#aaaahhhh jamie wants to be a good dad to him#but he's so nervous lmao#he's like shit i mean fuck i mean shit fuck i mean dang darn!

“Oh, and I’m the quick one?” Jamie huffed a soft laugh, determined to ignore the way red bloomed beneath his skin, painting his cheeks with ease. He turned away into a shake of his head both to hide the blush and to try and think of something to keep the conversation going. Luckily he didn’t have to, another offer was made and that time Jamie looked back at him and tilted his head against his shoulder. “I actually already asked and they said you have some weird mouth issue,” Jamie motioned in circular movements to his own mouth. “You know super slobbery and wet, I wouldn’t wanna embarrass you by having to confirm they’re right and everything.” He laughed that time. He chewed the inside of his bottom lip and tapped his pen to his notebook again. “What’d they get you for anyway?”
"Hold my hand? Damn, man, you move quick. You gonna offer to kiss me to ease my nerves too or just the hand-holding for now?" Tommy asked, pressing his face into his arm to hold back a snicker. When he looked back up and over at the new kid, his brows raised and a cheeky grin slid across the length of his lips. "Not that I'd be opposed to it or anything. I'm the best kisser in this school, just ask anyone," he added, shrugging his shoulders

semi-plotted starter for @chaosfindsaway
Another day another detention room. What a fantastic way to start out his morning, Jakobi thought to himself. The pale blue uniform hung limp over his shoulders, letters of the detention center etched and faded into the left sleeve as well as the backside of it.
The small window gave a glimpse out into the freedom of the surrounding world. He could see the warmth of the blue sky, the fading colors of the leaves on tree tops. The roads the spanned for miles… all calling to him. A yearning to escape and taste that fear of another unsuspecting victim just ripe for the plucking.
Jakob cleared his throat and pushed himself away from the table when the ding of the locking mechanism broke through his thoughts. He could hear the commotion of voices and footsteps; shuffling papers, hushed whispers of reassurance. “Ah… there he is.” Jakob whistled out through an exhale, curling his fingers into fists on the tables edge. “A real delicious sight for sore eyes…” he caught his bottom lip in his top teeth for a moment, letting his tongue part the space to lick the dry skin before it disappeared back in his mouth. He raised his head and straighten his back up to roll his shoulders back just a tad. “What can I do for you.. detective?” He narrowed his eyes, his tone maliciously invigorated.

semi-plotted starter for @chaosfindsaway
Jamie had been a-ok the entire morning leading up to Trevor heading out for some new… poaching adventure. Some rumor about a possible ankylosaurus had gotten carried on the winds of the camp and back to him. Jamie didn’t care that he’d been put on Moonshine watch again; he was slowly coming to terms with the dinosaur; she wasn’t as scary as the other ones for some reason. Plus her rumbling growls made his chest vibrate in a way that felt weird and nice at the same time and didn’t instill a sense of immediate dread in him anymore. Though maybe that was due in part to Trevor talking to her like she was some puppy excited for a walk or to go fetch.
An hour passed and it took another twenty for Jamie to finally realize Trevor left that fuck was Richard back at camp too. He avoided him like the plague- the guy was insufferable and constantly seemed like he was basking in the glory of terrorizing him. Sure Jamie could’ve just told Trevor that Richard had taken to tormenting him with one of those mutated little chickens with razor sharp teeth; but he didn’t wanna be a pussy. Plus it wasn’t like Jamie couldn’t just scramble up a tree to get away from the Compy when Richard brought it around.
That was far from the worst thing though. Jamie took the longer route around the camp to avoid Richard just so he could run smack dab into Mikey… literally. The guy just stopped mid stride and Jamie collided with him. The dude was like a brick wall. “What the fuck man!” Jamie croaked out, rubbing at his collarbone before a loud groan of annoyance bubbled up when he saw his actual face. “What the hell are you doing here… and why? Trevor’s not even here so… you’d be better off going back home to your cave you troll.”

@chaosfindsaway asked: "What's up, new boy? This your first time in detention?" /Tommy to Jamie >:)
Jamie glanced up from dragging his pen back and forth over his notebook cover to the kid staring at him. "Depends on who's asking." he squinted into a slight smirk. "Why're you so eager to know?" he teased slightly, going back to scratching the pen over the notebook. "Is it your first time and you're spooked out... need someone to hold your hand and tell you it'll be alright?" he laughed to himself.

“So you admit it, you rolled on top of me.” Jamie smugly replied, but the fire was still being stoked and he didn’t know why it mattered what this guy thought. But it did.
“Yeah a shit head cowboy that saved your dinosaurs life- either way you slice it I’m the reason she’s still alive. Would a simple thank you kill you? You know what don’t answer that 'cause it might. You’ve done nothing but insult me since your guys dragged me into this circus you call a fucking camp.”
A slight groan escaped his lungs being slammed back agains the cage himself, but his eyes never wavered- he refused to back down even when his collar was fisted. “Maybe you just need to learn to be a little verse— atile, Trevor.” He narrowed his eyes just barely. The insult about being soft struck a nerve. He spent his entire life proving to his father he wasn’t and now this wise ass was spewing the same shit at him. His lips smashed together in a deep set, dark line and his jaw tensed as blue eyes shifted to look over Trevor’s shoulders for just a moment.
“Let go of me before I make your dick a piñata again.” Jamie locked eyes with Trevor again, not sure he’d actually follow through in his threat. He just wanted space- he wanted to escape the grip, he wanted to… get his stuff and ditch the camp.
Trevor's eyes narrowed, his back hitting the cage bars with force. Behind him, he heard Moonshine stir, but only briefly. She always was a heavy-sleeper. "Self-conscious about rolling on top of a guy? I fuck men for breakfast when I want, you asshole," Trevor spat back, though his expression lingered more on the side of amusement than anger at being man-handled, "I'm self-conscious about rolling on top of some shit-head cowboy like you. You've been nothing but a pain in my ass and then you save Moonshine, expecting me to kiss your ass?"
Grabbing at Jamie's arms, Trevor pried them free and twisting, quick to turn him so that his back was now the one against the cage bars. His hands slid to grip Jamie's shirt collar. "You know what your problem is?" Trevor asked, leaning closer so that their faces were only inches apart - if even that. "Your problem is that you can't fuckin' handle it when someone else is in charge. Strong independent manly man, yeah I get it. At your core, though, you ain't shit, pal. As soft as butter, I bet."
#chaosfindsaway#c; trevor#v; bingo dino dna#c; jamie (the outcast son)#ooooh he’s so mad rn#But all I hear with these two is you wanna kiss me soooo bad lol

When he was shoved forward into Trevor’s reach, Jamie took a quick second to glance around the tent attempting to take in all the belongings crammed inside. The threat of a mouthful of soap did nothing to rattle his nerves, but being considered a liar was another thing. His face grew red and his hands balled up into fists- angry and confused and… mostly tired, maybe lost. He didn’t know. In curiosity he tilted his head and stared back at Richard who looked right back at Trevor with a hardening scowl; an irritated “tell the truth kid, you don’t wanna find out the hard way like some of us have about lyin’.” Following as he set his hand on his hip; fingers tapping idly at the gun in his holster.
“I’m not a liar!” Jamie looked up at Trevor and tried to force the strength he was lacking into his voice. But between the traveling; being spooked out in the woods, the already getting yelled at for breaking something earlier and now getting caught in a camp he didn’t recognize.. it was hard to not be overwhelmed. His eyes glistened slightly, but he wouldn’t cry. He wasn’t a baby. “He works here.. he does. I can take you to him.” Jamie insisted; convinced he was still within the boundaries of the facility his father was working in. “You gotta go up to the path and into the trees back where the big fence is… then you crawl between the wires and he’s there. Im not lying!” he explained, trying to overpower the racing beat of his heart in his chest.
“The fence!?” Richard exclaimed leaning his head back and wiping a hand over his face with an exasperated breath. “That’s up by Delacourt.” He looked from the kid to Trevor.
Well, wasn't this little shit a handful? Trevor tilted his head, lowering the gun as the curse word flew awkwardly from his lips. He cracked a light grin, somewhat impressed. "Ha! You know, we got some soap we could wash that little mouth out with," Trevor warned, clearly more humored by the situation than annoyed. He placed the gun back down in its holster, taking a step back before motioning with his hand for Richard to hand Jamie over.
When he did, Trevor's hand moved to grasp the boy's shirt, tugging him closer with ease - half to keep him at a safe distance from Richard and his growing anger. "Your daddy works here, huh? At this camp? Funny, none of my men told me they had their little scamp running around so maybe you should try again, little man. Cause I don't like liars. Richard here can speak on that, can't ya' Richard?" Trevor glanced up at him through the corner of his eyes, expecting the correct answer to come out.

Cas shook his head softly and placed his palm over his mouth to hide the tiny upturn of his lips, propping his elbow on the door rest to stare out the window. "Yeah, yeah, yeah- feed me to Moonshine, I got it." Cas droned on sarcastically, raising one brow and somehow squinting at Trevor's laughter just the same. "But you'd miss me- I know you would, who would you have to marvel at all your new finds if you got rid of me after all." Cas tilted his head sideways and turned to give Trevor a look. "Who would talk to Moonshine when you were away stealing new eggs or searching for nests too... you need me." he taunted him just for the sake of being an antagonist. He earned the pain in the ass title, he needed to keep it too after all.
It felt like his heart teetered back and forth off a steep drop-off when Trevor pulled into the trees that overlooked the warehouse. He could feel the tension seep into his bones and the tightness in his muscles. A warm flushed color rushed his face- like panic and regret swirling into one. But he couldn't back out again... Trevor would never let him live it down- or Cas didn't think he would. Cautiously, Castiel took the binoculars and scanned the fencing along the warehouse before lowering them against his legs. "The two by the voltage sign, the one wearing the red vest and the one with that stupid bucket cap... those are his righthand men." Cas' voice was softer, but there was an anger that rolled under the surface- shown only in the way his brow line stiffened into a strong scowl.
"When I hid along the fence line in your camp after I got out of the river; they're the reason. They do what they want, there's no.. reason to it, they just-- ruin things. They ruin everything and they won't stop until they get whatever they're looking for. They smashed that nest for no reason..." his temper was slow... but it was there. Castiel cared about a lot of things, from massive dinosaurs down to bees gathering nectar from flowers and assholes like the two by the voltage fence stoked a fiery rage he didn't know how to quell. "I could've saved those eggs and they smashed them...." he huffed out an angry breath and handed the binoculars back to Trevor.
"Like having you around?" Trevor scoffed, rolling his eyes and letting them fall back onto the road ahead, "Actually, you're a pain in my ass, but you know, I'm a good boss. Gotta make sure I take care of my employees."
Technically, Cas wasn't an employee. Just a guy unlucky enough to end up in Trevor's debt - or at least that's how Trevor saw it. "Don't thank me yet anyway. Haven't decided if I'll feed you to Moonshine after this for putting me through all the trouble." He laughed in a way that kept the true intention of his words hidden. Was he joking or for real? He'd let Cas simmer on it a bit. With his gaze heavy on the road, he took a few more turns before pulling over onto a gravel road. He parked within the confines of two trees, the tires screeching as they left the gravel behind. To the side of them, the shrubbery crawled downward into a hill and at the bottom stood a warehouse. Men surrounded the building, but they looked like little ants from where Trevor parked. Reaching over Cas, he yanked the dash cupboard open and pulled out a walkie talkie as well as a pair of binoculars. He offered the binoculars over to Cas. "Here. Take a gander."
#chaosfindsaway#c; trevor#c; castiel ( the abandoned son)#cas for sure is the type to not wanna kill or hurt anything ;-;

"How come Mikey always gets to be the boss?" Cas asked curiously, "What about when you got ideas... does he just make you do what he says all the time- we could throw an uprising... unseat him from the leader position....I could take him." Cas teased with a soft squint.
"Doesn't gotta be fair." Cas shouted back with a laugh, racing through the tall grass and weeds. His shoes slid through a splotch of muddy grass and he went down, sliding to a stop up against the creepy house they always avoided... the one where kids and grown ups went to die; at least that's what the rumor was. Rubbing the back of his head, Cas got up and tried to brush some of the mud off, backing away slowly in case the man inside heard the commotion and came out. He swore he could hear footsteps, but he didn't want to stick around to be sure so he cut in front of Tommy, shoving him towards the tree line instead. It might take them an extra five minutes, but it definitely beat having Vlad come out and scream at them about getting mud on the siding of his house or... eating them. Mikey had to understand, he just had to.

Tommy took a quick glance at his watch when he heard Cas' voice from behind the door. He nibbled at the inside of his cheek - he knew Mikey was likely already there, waiting for them. The longer he waited, the more annoyed he'd get. Finally, Cas came out. Tommy promptly snatched up the poptart offered to him and started digging in; he'd forgotten about breakfast this morning. "Hell if I know what he wants," he said with a shrug, mouth full. Once he swallowed it down, he spoke again, "He didn't say what we were doing, he just said hurry."
Tommy was halfway through taking another bite when Cas took off running. "Hey, no fair!" Crumpling up the poptart package so it wouldn't get stale, he shoved it down into his jacket pocket and dashed off behind Cas. He ran as fast as he could, but of the three boys, Tommy had always been the slowest. His chest started to burn, rapid breaths bouncing off him as he followed as closely behind Cas as he possibly could.

"Oh yeah, then how does she communicate with you?" Jamie whipped around with a frustrated scowl. Why did he always bite the fucking dangled bait? How did the guy manage to get him to anyway? He pretended like he didn't want to stay so it would hurt a lot less when he got kicked out... he hated knowing that he'd started to feel like he half belonged there. He didn't want it to just be a fleeting moment of comfort- find connection and then be ditched or disposed of.
"You? nice?" Jamie laughed, but swallowed down the way his heart skipped a little in his chest. Was that... an offer to stick around? Or was it Trevor actually asking him not to leave? He dragged his work boot in the dirt then scuffed the heel against the ground and dropped his shoulders a bit. "I'm a lot sharper than you give me credit for, I saved Moonshine in case you forgot." Jamie quickly defended himself, even though he was pretty sure at that point he didn't really need to. "If I stick around..." he felt the panic stiffening in his veins and had to look away from the soft shade of warm brown eyes staring at him. "Do I still get to sleep in the dirt and weeds down by Moonshines enclosure?"
"Moonshine doesn't speak asshole language so I doubt you talked to her," Trevor quipped back just as Jamie grabbed his bag. Perhaps he was baiting him a bit - trying to get more insults out of him. After all, it was one of the few ways he'd get him to stay. Trevor refused to say out right that he wanted that so dropping little petty hints would have to do for now. "Now, maybe if you'd stay, I'd be nice enough to teach you how to talk to her. I know you're clearly not the sharpest tool in the shed, but hey! I'm a good teacher so I'm sure we can manage."

"I can keep my hands to myself- I just didn't!" Link exclaimed with a soft huff in the passenger seat, thumping his shoulders against the seat and glaring out the window before looking down at his jeans. He'd yet to relent on why he'd gotten in the fight, but he didn't regret it. It wasn't very often that Link got to be the one defending his older brother so the snide remark that started it all had to really be worth it.
He breathed in a deep breath and sighed it all out at once, letting his tongue dip out along the blood and- cringed back at it. He glared with the one eye he could and turned to look at his dad. "Are you gonna yell me when I tell you that he's just fine?" his tone was angry but a bit on the defeated side just the same. "Cause if you are then I'm just gonna lie..." he propped his hand against his cheek and went back to staring out the window. "You never get mad at Gray when he fights- and he's not even good at it." Link grumbled quietly.
@lymbycsystem liked for a starter from Tommy!
"Fighting, really? I gotta cut out of work early cause you can't keep your hands to yourself?" Tommy exhaled, shaking his head as he threw a quick glance toward Link in the passenger side next to him. The sight of the blood caked to Link's bottom lip and his swollen red eye was enough to make Tommy want to punch some kid's teeth in, but he'd have surely lost his job - and worse, end up in a cell with some asshole he'd put in the slammer. His attention didn't linger too long on Link, he went right back to watching the road ahead. "Please tell me the other kid at least looks worse."

The warm shade of red from the buzz of the alcohol took on a slightly deeper tint of red when Jamie let it sink in that Tommy just asked him to come home with him.
With a slightly tense swallow Jamie shrugged and looked around them- the biting chill of the air wasn't exactly an inviting temperature to walk home in, but... but why would he ask that? Jamie knew he was probably over analyzing the request so when Tommy clarified that he'd asked just out of feeling a relief that he wouldn't be alone... he tried to swallow down whatever anxious tension had snuck into his thoughts. "Um..." he pressed his lips together then ran his hands through his hair, letting his arms linger at the sides of his face for a seconds before dropping them to his sides once more.
"Yeah, yeah sure." he inhaled, blinking a few more times than normal. "Misery always likes company, right." he mused softly, stuffing his hands into his pockets and making his way back beside Tommy. “I don’t have to come back- I mean, you don’t have to.” Jamie expelled a breath of uncertainty, chewing on the insides of his cheeks. “You don’t have to invite me just because you think I’m a danger to myself or so it’ll absolve you guilt if I.. got into trouble. I’m not… big on imposing.” He tucked his chin to his chest, focusing on the foggy air from both of their breaths as the temperature continued to cascade downwards around them.
Tommy halted when Jamie did, listening to his words and taking them all in. He stuck his hands down in his pockets to shield them from the cold and for a moment after Jamie stopped talking, silence stood between them.
"You wanna come over to my place?" Tommy blurted out, an exhale of frigid air following the question. Yeah, it'd been years since he'd seen Jamie - or even heard from him. He could tell he was going through something and in this drunken state, Tommy simply couldn't let him go home alone. His head tilted before he managed to elaborate further. "My kid's are staying at my brother's for the night so you wouldn't have to worry about making a racket and I'd feel better if I knew you were...I don't know, with someone?" He didn't want to insinuate that Jamie was too drunk to take care of himself, but something in the back of his mind told him to at least offer. What's the worst he could say? No? Tommy, in that case, would return home and just give him a call in the morning to be sure he was okay. If he still had his number, of course.
#chaosfindsaway#c; tommy#c; jamie (the outcast son)#Jamie totally overthinks this#He’s so intimidated by Tommy lmao he still had those butterflies in his stomach all these years later!!!

Jamie couldn't seem to get a grip on his fear so when Trevor stepped even closer Jamie visibly tensed- almost flinched backwards against the post. His eyes followed each back and forth of the blade from the mans hands, taking in the shape of it, mentally preparing himself for the initial shock he was expecting to suddenly feel if the guy decided to plunge it into his exposed torso.
Dark lashes flickered upwards, blue eyes focused on Trevor's face as he asked him questions that Jamie couldn't help but get irritated over knowing the guy already knew the answers to what he was asking. He couldn't exactly figure out his... angle. Did he want him to answer or was this just a little fun he was having before butchering him alive?
What made this guy so freaking weird? His eyes once again followed the glint of the light off the curves of the sharp blade pressed to Trevor's fingertip and finally his reserve cracked, words bubbled up. "I..." he panicked at first, unsure if speaking was going to lose him his tongue or get him a knife to the gut... he averted his gaze, unwilling to look his potential carver in the eyes. "I offered you that chance back.. it's not like I could block you- even if I did I'm sure you'd just... do it again anyway. You're the one with the weapons and the... psychopathic tendencies here." his eyes drifted up to Trevor's eyes that time. "In my defense... you were the one who touched me first. I-- I could argue it was self defense- you never.. never know why people are.. touching you." his eyes shifted back and forth, half clouded with a sense of shame or disgust, half alluding to knowing the sinister nature of most of the fucks that worked for a camp just up the river. People had to be on guard all the time to avoid freaks like that. and even then it didn't always pan out in his favor.
'Can't you just kill me and get it over with instead of... fucking playing with me here. Can't you just get it over with man." there was a slight glimmer of resignation in his eyes, no witty comments to get under the assailants skin that time.
Trevor took the silence as sign that he'd finally gotten the other's attention. Most people reached this point a little sooner - Trevor couldn't decide if he was annoyed or...impressed.
"Enough that you'd end up just another number I'd forget when the next guy asks." He took a few slow steps closer, reaching to his side to pull the knife latched to his side. The silver hilt glimmered as he moved it back and forth between his hands. It was just an old survival knife he'd picked up from raiding another camp years ago. The blade had ridges on the back, perfect for really tearing into the flesh if it went deep enough. "So, let me ask you, you think this gorgeous girl would eat an organ? From what I know, you can live without your spleen. Think she'd enjoy that? It'd be a nice treat, I think, and you know...I gotta keep all these dinosaurs fed."
He watched Jamie closely, lifting the blade to poke the tip of his own finger to test the sharpness. "Or do you think maybe that's a little harsh for someone who just hit me in the balls? I don't know, man, it hurt pretty fuckin' bad."

It only took a few seconds for Jamie to peel himself out of whatever panicked haze he'd been in. The guy gasping for breath clambered away rubbing at his throat the moment Jamie released him.
"Jesus fuck, James... what's your problem?" the man glared at him, kicking the bottom of his boot before he stalked off, still rubbing at his neck and muttering to himself about psychos and shitty pay.
Jamie sat up in the dirt and pressed the heels of his palms over his eyes rubbing at them slightly to wake himself- carefully avoiding looking at Trevor so he wouldn't actually have to answer for whatever that was. "Moonshine's alright.. in case you were checking on her. She's fine... no visitors tonight so.. yeah." he could still feel the heaving in and out, up and down of his shoulders and chest- and even though he didn't flat out refuse to acknowledge his actions it was obvious he was attempting to by shifting the conversation to Trevor's ... Moonshine. "She- we were gonna wait up for you but- it was cold and, we got tired so.. I don't know. She's fine you can do whatever you guys do for a nighttime routine I'm gonna go for a walk." he made sure to leave enough space that Trevor couldn't latch onto him when he went to walk past.
Trevor noticed the change in Jamie's presence - how it always felt ghosted, as of late. Or distant. A lingering sense of guilt still fiddled with Trevor's mind every once in a while, but with the weeks going on, he'd tried his best to move on; to focus on work and seem like nothing had changed so that hopefully, Delacourt would leave himself vulnerable.
Of course, leaving Jamie behind for scouting out the new nests might've been a good sign that everything was not normal. Luckily, Delacourt and his men had no idea about these nests so therefore, they never ran into them for him to have noticed Jamie's absence.
Finally returning after a few hours longer than expected, Trevor found his tent empty of Jamie. Unusual. It was so late, he figured he would've crashed by now. After searching for a while, he made his way down to Moonshine's warehouse. That's when he found him, fast asleep in the dirt next to her pen. Trevor only kicked him - somewhat tenderly - once and it was like awakening a thrashing beast. "Hey, whoa!"
