Last Saturday, we celebrated 70 years of a true legend. I won't say if he was alive because he is. Club scene owes to Larry Levan everything he has done during his lifetime. He created a place of acceptance, inclusivity and joy for all the marginalised communities rejected by fancy clubs like Studio 54. The Paradise Garage, his leading club, is still, to date, a historical landmark known for its music and atmosphere. Larry, we love you and thank you for your legacy. We feel you with us on every sweatdrop left on the dancefloor. You will be forever our Weekend Queerhoe.

Oooh when did I get so emotional? I need to stop watching The Bear. Too much. That dizzy camera, that hot chef. God! Bring me a glass of Pinot!

Weekend Review 11-07.JUL.2024

Good morning, ravers.

Are we still alive? Did we make it? Is democracy still a thing? Not for long, I guess… OOOOH, honey! What a weekend! But we made it. There is something about this time of the year….the longer days.. the heat… And hey, did anyone else notice that sex is back on the menu?

I'm not speaking of those traditional close encounters one might have in a very boring way. I'm talking of the filthy, sweaty and pleasure-driven act. Everybody is having sex. Sex is the new thing. Sex. Sex. Sex. Stop being a purist. Leave the apps, go cruise, get yourself in the middle of a darkroom and have some sex.

For those who know what I'm talking about, you are probably recovering from all the joy you had in the past weekend. Good job, my CUMpions! Mother is here to sum up what you missed whilst you kept your mouths busy... 🥵

And I see some steam coming out of Omeara' as it seems like 'Feel It' is back in the game. After a period of identity crisis, the Little Gay Brother, young sister is resurrecting for the summer. And look who graced us: our favourite priest, Andrew Scott. Bless him!

But speaking of the UK, I'm sorry that it didn't come home this year. Is it may be time for you guys to move on from football? I think you have been cursed for all the misbehaviour. Hint! Try sex! Oh no, let's leave that with those who know how to do it.

My Brazilian kids! Hello! Seems like you have been glowing over the weekend. I saw that DJ Bassan and her squad caused a commotion in Rio. Beautiful! And in Brasilia, Beco Electrico was nothing but 100% the place to be.

But shall we move to the rewarding time? You all want to know which DJ graced us with the set of the weekend. And I will tell you that this one was a big revelation. But I will praise her for the full serve at Berghain's Sunday evening: DJ Holographic. It was a masterclass on Disco music, Chicago House and all the classics that make dance music authentic and genuine and rooted. She brought it home and turned the whole place into the Paradise Garage.

You got the badge, sweetie. You are the Weekend QueerHoe. Wear it with Pride.

What else did I miss? Any event? The bullet? Ohh please, call me when this whole bad acting gets a Netflix special. In the meantime, can we have a dancehall version of "I shot the sheriff"? Maybe we should do it as "I shot the Cheetos"? Can we have it with Cardi B vocals? That would be sick.

Busy Friday in the old World. Here are Mother's best picks for those in tune with the trends.

Mamba Negra, São Paulo's naughtiest collective pairs up with Planeta Manas in Lisbon. @cashuuuu_, @alirio_____, @pauletelindacelva on the line. UNMISSABLE! In Paris, the Latin Queer collective Divino takes over the Virage for another fiery night.

In London, the unstoppable Brazilian DJ/musical producer Badsista is hosting a night every Friday at @colourfactorylondon. He curated a line with the best talents from the current underground scene in Brazil, so it is a must-go if you want to push yourself to the future of the house and techno scene.

Lastly, in Berlin, the Berghain Klubnatch line is something to die for this weekend. I'm speaking of David Elimelech, Partok, OK Williams, OMOLOKO, amongst others.

Latin America

And Latin Americaaaaa, what's good? You are an effervescent source that keeps on giving! I noticed a recent trend of good clubs closing in Mexico City. My dear angel @cammimu, would you give me a quick update here on what's going on??? I trust you with the Mission to make the Underground scene rise again. Go, darling, go!

Rio, you never let us down, do you?! I'm watching closely all the beautiful work from festalamina. Beautiful work, kids. If you manage to be in Rio this Saturday, this is THE PLACE TO BE.

And I'm saving my favourite pick for last. The @becoelectrico collective from Brasília is celebrating six years this weekend and throwing a big one. The line blends local and national talents, making this an unmissable opportunity to experiment with new sounds. So proud of these kids. Mother sees great things for Brasilia. Happy birthday, Beco!

Batekoo celebrates 10 years

This queer-black-led collective has been taking the attention of the world with its power and unapologetic spirit. The curation is so meticulously crafted that it became a platform for new queer black talents across the country, reshaping the creative industry.

Oh, is Brazilcore a trend now? Well, I’m not afraid to point out who is behind it. If you want to know who sets trends and what’s next, take a chance on Batekoo. Their work is unbeatable. The team behind: fresh princedabahia, artursantoro, kiarafelippe, mirands, … are the kind of people you should be following NOW! Forget Kim Kardashian! Taylor Swift? Please…

Honestly, give them a go. If you don’t know Portuguese, translate it, and stop being lazy.

Weekend Review 04-07.JUL.2024

Good morning ravers,

It's a new week, a new world and it just feels good to be in a time where the French didn't lost their mind. Vive La France! What DJ will give us a speed Garage rendition of La Marseille? We need it NOW!

The UK people raised both middle fingers to the old white upper-class boring-hypocrite politicians. Special shout out to the Islington North council for electing Corbyn. What a community! Great celebration on Thursday evening at The Bedford Tavern. A joy to see it.

England, do you reckon it will actually come home this year?🤔🤔🤔 Not sure yet. Looking at people watching football and enjoying Michael Bibi's set on Finsbury Park last Saturday, I still have my doubts. Quite pathetic, TBH. Are you trying to multitask on a rave, hun?! Your gear is too cheap for that. Next time, learn from Shay Malt, who created a dedicated area at Adonis based on people's requests. Legend! Hot! Icon! It's there but not messing with the dancefloor.

Speaking of Adonis, what was Grace Sands’s set??? She was on 🔥. I guess Glasto has truly energised her. OK Williams, Midland, you both were in pure form, too. I'm giving out the Weekend Badge to both of you. It was a full serve on performing your music with an eye on the crowd. Wear it proudly.

Club Are was also blooming in Hackney Bridge that same day. Who says that summer is not here? I feel that we are entering the Third Summer of Love. It's all about knowing where to go. Does anyone feel the same?

And moving to SouthEast London, I noticed some new activities on Friday, and I'm not speaking of Feel It, but “Sextou!” (in Brazilian Portuguese slang, “it's Friday”), a new label branded and promising a hard techno night on steroids. Fun? We shall see… It's good to see some new names taking the decks. Just don't turn into a still-Circuit-but-in-a-Warehouse kind of party. It won't work. We don’t want that.

For the seventh year, The Glory took over the National Theatre River stage and generously graced you humans with a lesson on how the queers are true masters of entertainment. The full trans lineup on Friday evening was a highlight. Well done Sizzle and Jonny Woo! Your curation keeps on giving.

And for those with stamina, yes, baby, this was a heavy weekend; Unfold was back on. If you know, you know. For the ones that belong to it and respect it. Not for piss-takers. This is the community's final frontier. Beautiful work, as always.

What else did I miss? Horse Meat Disco? It's always a good chill after a heavy one. When the big horses are on tour, you can still enjoy the same level of magic with Bestley and Jim.

Anything else? I don't think so. What is relevant has been covered. What is not? You have another week to work on your thing until you get my attention. Until then, I will keep myself to what matters. It’s in my nature, huns.
