Baron Eugene Fersen (1874-1956) was born into the Russian nobility as son to baroness Olga Von medem. In his youth she was said to have bestowed upon him the same of Svetozar, meaning “bearer of light” and is credited with his first exposure to philosophy and the esoteric.
Before world war 1 Fersen, his family, along with some of their estate, fled Russia to Paris, France. In 1914, he began to serve with the French Red Cross and “Ambulance américaine,” who cared for wounded and sick soldiers at the front lines. This time witnessing horror in war greatly affected him and led him to question a higher power.
Following his service fersen was contacted by the “Russian-American Friendship Union” to serve in the United States in 1918. Once it became clear that he would not be able to return to Russia, he started to invest time in what he called “the betterment of humanity.” In 1921 he founded the scientific/philisophical/spiritual organization The Lightbearers and began traveling across the US spreading his philosophies. In 1939 he purchased the Parker Mansion at 1409 prospect st in Seattle, making it his home and headquarters for The Lightbearers.
In Seattle he became obsessed by the Pacific Northwest, praising it for its “proximity to the North Star.” By the early 1940s he had discovered the Columbia River Gorge and began referring to it as a “spiritual vortex.” With hopes of creating a college for the Lightbearers, fersen acquired parcels of land around archer mountain in Skamania county. His vision was never realized.
Or was it..
