Everything makes so much more sense knowing that he’s secretly living in that car and doesn’t know where he’s going to go if he can’t make himself useful enough to stay at the speakeasy. He’s spent years trying to find a better life and this is the best he’s been able to get, and now he’s terrified of getting kicked out again because he doesn’t think he can get a better life than being shot at for fifteen dollars’ worth of alcohol just so he has a place to sleep.

So… in his character bio portrait, Rocky is depicted holding up a comedy mask and hiding a tragedy mask behind his back. I think it’s an apt metaphor for the personality he’s created to hide numerous layers of trauma and mental illness that he doesn’t want anyone to see. I’m fascinated to see moments in the comic where this comedy mask personality seems to shift, leaving his hidden thoughts and feelings to crack through the facade.
