Seonghwa: "As Ateez always has, we never add anything without mening."
Hongjoong: "At the beginning and end of an album, we usually add an intro and outro. Since it's a 'Bridge,' it'd be fun to see how it connects everything together."
INTERESTING!! 👀

Jongho/Mingi Saga: Part 4: Mingi with the last word...?
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
After Jongho went on fromm to clear up the misunderstanding about the forgotten dinner invitation incident, Mingi came on fromm to deliver his final remarks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Interesting that he asks "there's nothing wrong? with what I said?" but I take it as a rhetorical question, like, "I have nothing to be sorry about. I only said what was true." I wonder if he got called out for bringing up this story during the tipsy show, especially as it's become something atiny are bothering the other members about.
Mingi's pragmatic yet deeply loyal self demands that any tension be cleared through open and honest communication, something to which Jongho did not appear inclined. Or maybe it's more that, Mingi can't know Jongho's true thoughts and feelings and that's just a fact of life we should all accept.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"I don't love in an ordinary way" feels like the Song Mingi thesis statement. But he seems aware of the fact that it's a lot to ask of someone, even someone you regard as a younger brother, to reciprocate love in the same way. But that doesn't mean he'll be quiet about it! When he hurts, you'll know it.
But then we also got Jongho's revenge during the Spotify show, where the members took turns roasting each other. The person being roasted had the opportunity to overhear what the other was saying and even had the option to "silence" them, which Jongho (aided by producers) ignored.
Here's Jongho talking about another dinner date incident...
Jongho comments that when Mingi is loyal, he's "really loyal" but then he'll go off and do his own thing; he's just wired that way. Hongjoong calls it "selective loyalty."

I don't think he's being cruel or mean; I actually think that Mingi cares deeply about his members but does not always recognize or obey the invisible social contracts that bind groups of people who work and live together. To Mingi, care is shown by inviting the maknae to dinner and paying for their meal. All the niceties and etiquette that takes place during and after the dinner is less important than the act itself. I think that's why he took Jongho's "forgetting" about his dinner invitation so hard; to Mingi, it implied Jongho did not respect the care that went into Mingi's gesture.
It's similar to how Hongjoong repeatedly, during nearly every single variety show appearance, mentions that Mingi is the worst at responding to the group chat -- and in particular, he never answers Hongjoong's texts. According to Mingi, the act of reading them is enough. Why does he need to respond?

Yet in the same episode, Hongjoong reveals that he'd like to switch lives with Mingi.
"I think it would be fun."

The idea of being unencumbered by the fear of making a mistake in front of thousands of people or trying something new and failing. I wonder if that extends how Mingi, by virtue of his personality and his long-established role on the team as the proverbial "sin eater" for awkward, uncouth, or embarrassing moments (perhaps this is also what Mingi means by "does not love in ordinary ways"), gets to be free in a way that Hongjoong as captain does not.
Maybe that's also why Hongjoong indulges Mingi far more than the other members do when they're doing OT8 content: not (only) to mediate messy, unscripted moments Mingi creates, but because he's genuinely enamored by how Mingi moves through the world.
Tumblr media
I'm not sure how to connect this back to my original post about the Jongho/Mingi dinner drama, but my mind kept making connections and associations. It's interesting, this many years into their idol career, that we get to see some mess; even with all their media training and attempts to put more distance between atiny and their personal lives, we still are privy to some TMI occasionally. It keeps things interesting.
