So people talk about Chloe a lot in this photo, but I've not seen any one discuss Max.

the most interesting thing about Max here is her hair. in LIS it's covering her face and matches her shy attitude. but look at it here, tucked behind her ears. she's showing her whole face and even some forehead. she's come out of her shell now, it indicates that she's happy. David talks on the phone about Max getting her artwork out into galleries, and she's in New York with Chloe. they're both healing and enjoying their lives, both moving on from what they were at Arcadia - namely angsty and withdrawn. they're part of the world now and even if they're not outright smiling in the photo, they both seem to be in a better place and most importantly TOGETHER.

Chloe is not allowed to say no to Rachel (aka why the relationship is problematic)

I was going through Before The Storm again and noticed that Chloe was basically not allowed to say no to anything Rachel wanted or intended to involve her in (even though she expresses reluctance and unwillingness).

Let me just simply list them to prove my point:

1) Rachel tells Chloe to jump off the train, but even if you choose not to jump, she’ll drag you down with herself.

2) When Rachel announces she wants to get wasted at the overlook, even if you tell her you’re still hungover from last night, she’ll proceed and push you to help her steal the wine. 

3) Back at Blackwell Chloe is once again forced into doing something she does not want to: performing in The Tempest. 

4) After the show, Rachel expresses her desire of leaving town that same night,  and no matter how many arguments Chloe brings up against leaving, she is not allowed to say no.

5) And then again you can’t say no to her when she insists that she wants to see her mother, even though Chloe knows it’s dangerous (especially because she’s on her own), yet you have to go and risk your safety/life.

I know some people likes to claim Max and Chloe’s relationship was toxic as well, but Max actually had the freedom to reject Chloe’s requests in the first game. 

1) You could choose not to take the blame for the joint. 2) You could choose to answer Kate’s call and dismiss Chloe’s request to ignore it. 3) You could choose not letting her take the money from the Principal’s Office. 4) You could choose not to kiss Chloe when she dares you. (But who the hell would do that, right?) 5) You could choose not to take her side against David.

These lines from Nightmare Max do not really represent Pricefield’s dynamic, but more like Amberprice’s. Chloe never forced Max into doing something she wasn’t comfortable with, but Rachel repeatedly ignored her feelings and only strived for fulfilling her own personal needs.

Max and Chloe’s true feelings always come out when they have to say goodbye

(Ask my muse questions they don't want to answer) The crazy Max from the diner: Why did you never try to save Rachel? Are you afraid Chloe would leave you if she were here?

Max couldn’t help but let out a small pathetic whimper when she heard the question she was being asked. “I… I don’t know,” she muttered softly, her voice filled with fear and unease.

It wasn’t the first time she’s asked herself this question, and she never knew the proper way to answer. “Chloe… I- I’d do anything for her. I have done everything I can for her but… I. Going back… saving Rachel, I- I don’t…” The brunette let her voice trail off as another whimper passed through her lips.

“There’s so much risk,” Max finally said, trying not to sound so terrified at the thought that changing such a major part of the past could mean losing the girl she fought so hard to keep alive and safe and… with her. “Look what happened when I tried to save William!”. 

The brunette remained silent when she heard the next question. Of course, she was scared that Chloe would leave her for Rachel, that much was obvious. Rachel was so much better than her, and a much better friend and partner than she’d ever be. “I…” Max began, her voice sounding more like a squeak until she cleared her throat, “I don’t… *sigh* I don’t want to lose Chloe, but… if it saving her angel, tearing apart time and space to do so means making her happy, I’m willing to sacrifice what we have to do that”.

She didn’t want to believe the words leaving her lips but… Max never really stood much chance against Rachel Amber and she’d do anything for Chloe regardless of her own feeling because that’s who she was. Too nice for her own good.

“I love her enough to let her go”.
