I remember you mentioning in a post a while ago that 4 was one of your favorite characters other than Puzzles and WPNZ…

can we have any 4 headcanons.. pretty please.. you can make them ship related or something idc I love all the 4 ships (smg34 and catvideo specifically)

SMG4, my most favoritest meme boy… I’m so sorry I’ve neglected you. The robots have me in a death grip and I’ve yet to escape.

I can absolutely give you some 4 headcanons though! I promise, while I love Gunshow my blog isn’t all shipping— it’s just me yelling loudly about the things I like. Which unfortunately to many is Gunshow.

Though 4 is usually considered the “leader” of the SMG4 gang, he doesn’t see himself as it. He struggles a lot with his self worth and has trouble thinking of a “role” for himself within the team.

The events of IGBP left him with bad PTSD, though he wouldn’t even think to reach out to a therapist in regards to it. He prefers to deal with things on his own, and while he knows he has his friends in his corner to support him, he still can’t but blame himself for sinking Peach’s castle.

4 has OCD and ADHD!

4 has an incredibly black and white view of things and struggles to understand the morally gray. Much how like Puzzles has a black and white view of him, SMG4, too, has a black and white view of Puzzles.

He has a habit of underestimating his enemies. Even with the successes he and the crew have had in regards to successfully defeating their enemies, he still has a terrible habit of thinking before he acts, tending to rush into things before he’s properly thought them out.

SMG4 is a dog person!

SMG4 gets jealous incredibly easily and struggles to deal with it.

Mario genuinely enjoys the stuff Puzzles makes, he just finds Puzzles incredibly punchable. Puzzles hates that guy but acknowledges his skill in wielding the mysterious and elusive The Funny.

Funny story.

Long before Gunshow, back in 2024, there was a ship that got popular called Marware. The ship of Mario (SMG4) and Mr Puzzles

It's a peculiar odd one, but popular. A sophisticated cyborg with a dramatic flair, and a red fat Italian who's lacks a bunch of braincells but his idiocy sometimes has charm. It's a silly and fluffy one, last I checked.

Ever heard or seen of it?

I most certainly have! I think it’s an absolutely hilarious one and while I don’t ship it myself, I think it’s a really funny crackship. Pairing Puzzles with the guy he hates the most makes me absolutely cackle as someone who absolutely adores their beef with one another.

I love this. I need more.

Wait actually speaking of… the TV in the flashbacks is a flatscreen Puzzles didn’t even grow up with a CRT

Not only did he decapitate himself and replace his head with a TV… he had other options in terms of what kind of TV and actively chose the imploding radiation box. Just… for the aesthetic, I guess?

Why would he want that as his head. Is he aware of the symbolism.

I like the way that Puzzles is because yeah damaged CRT incredibly dangerous and oh dear is that man damaged.

oh yeah, absolutely! Puzzles have done some damage, hurt people in more ways than one, and definitely should hold accountability for it. But also damn, she really is a tragic character.

I mean it's another thing too, that we know things differently than how the other characters do. Like how other than Meggy, we were in Puzzles' mindscape. But also we got to see one of her memories in a flashback (its truest form), meeting her dad and what pushed Puzzles to "watch TV all day to forget all [her] troubles".

Certainly, there's stuff she needs to work on. But also YEAH, that screen has been broken so many times smh (when will it end? /lh)

Well, yall can take it as you will, so sure ig. Personally tho, I would think 3 would be more in awe of those abilities. After all, the goo/perfectionist side isn't a side 4 is fully fond of. Even after 4 accepts it, his abilities at full power aren't exactly pretty appearance-wise, maybe the exception of his glitch instinct. To 4, it's whatever really, he would do anything for his friends.

For 3, he gets to see how 4's newfound journey of this other side, accepting it and learning to work with it. The assumptions he had before about 4, of being better than him and of "could do no wrong", are completely shattered at that point. It adds another layer of respect and tender fondness for 4. And also think that those abilities are sick as hell, let's be real here.

That being said, still being 4's perfectionist side, 3 would be the one to help take care of him. Not only bc 4 needs to be reminded to take breaks and such but also bc before, that goo and by extension 4 were constantly met with hostility. That's how they all went through the start of IGBP, fighting it. But just as 3 was able to get through to 4 with his speech, I can see that would be the same energy and care for goop!4

I mean, you can think about it this way too: 4 using his abilities allows him to be more chaotic, which is quite convenient for combat. So like in training his abilities or in actual fighting against enemies, that within itself is kinda hot. Eh, who am I to say? I'm just a goop!4 enthusiast haha

I like how the major difference regarding Four’s isolation vs Puzzles’ is that Four was never really alone. From the beginning of his existence pretty much he had a cosmically assigned best friend with Mario. It took the two of them a while to find out the difference between playful teasing and just straight up bullying with each other but they were friends from pretty much the get go. Four was lucky enough to get taken in by an extrovert that lead him to meeting even more friends, but he was afraid the whole thing was conditional. Puzzles and Four both learned that friendship and popularity don’t follow the same rules in IGBP and WOTFI 2024 respectively, but neither of them really have figured out the details of what that means and kinda had the wrong takeaways.

Four has always had friends, and when he thought their friendship was conditional, they proved him wrong.

Puzzles has never had friends, when he gets friends he thinks their friendship is conditional, and they prove him right. The conditions themselves may not be all that unreasonable, but they are there, and they are not conditions Puzzles can currently meet, especially when his insecurities get reinforced by the fact that he’s getting physically attacked by someone who’s claiming to have understood him but, from Puzzles’ perspective, turned on him the second he learned who he actually is. He thinks everyone will leave him if they see his flaws, and this belief is reinforced.

Puzzles is right that WPNZ doesn’t understand. WPNZ knows something is up, but he doesn’t understand. He attacks Puzzles for using him when that is very common Puzzles behavior and this is the least egregious example of it. Nobody lost their free will or died. Puzzles lied and made WPNZ look bad and WPNZ was tied up for a few minutes.

WPNZ said he thought they were understanding each other, and the thing is, Puzzles thought so too! Puzzles explained why this was important to him beforehand, and he thought WPNZ would get it, even without the details.

He explains it while they’re fighting, that this was his one chance of winning over the only person who could see his all his flaws and still believe in him. And WPNZ responds that he doesn’t deserve friends, which is exactly the thing Puzzle has been worried about, the reason he’s always putting on an act and playing a role! and while the ending certainly shows that Puzzles regrets what he did…having that moment where anger softens into regret… WPNZ doesn’t exactly have a moment like that. He has… frankly the opposite.

Puzzles is right that Leggy is the only person who has ever seen him and liked in his entirety, unconditionally, who can have all his flaws spelled out to her and still insist he’s good, that he’s still her friend.

But when any of Four’s friends see him at his worst, they tell him off, but they stick by his side, all of them. The crew is determined to prove SMG4’s insecurities wrong, while Puzzles has his reinforced at every turn.

Given all the other parallels… I’m pretty concerned that if Puzzles approaches WPNZ trying to make things right…

I’m scared Puzzles will just let WPNZ kill him.

so, y'know that ask about isolation, the one that got me thinking? I was like, "heh, 4 and Puzzles are truly two sides of the same coin" as I usually do.

Both of their perfectionism stemmed from the fear of being alone, of not being enough. One was viewed as a weakness, the other was viewed as a sense of stability.

Isolation only pushed them to said perfectionism and blinded them what they had, and well, in their respective movies, they didn't exact get what they wanted for. But that same isolation doesn't just happen in their movies. It's when Little Puzzles had his dreams rejected, when 4 was trying to figure out who he was with the cosmology lore. Over and over, isolation definitely was consistent in their history, just that the movies definitely highlighted how much they were pushed past that line. To that desperation, to what outcome of their choices would be.

Left alone, their thoughts dangerously sending them into a spiral. Now, that's a recipe for disaster, and a great mind palace rambling for me. Y'know I thought it was the end of that. But then, after a few minutes went by, that one thought turned into:

4 and Puzzles are gonna fix this, no matter the cost. For them.

Puzzles’ way grieving the loss of a friend

-Anger and Depression at the same time

-denial via Escapism: appear in non arc episode and do silly things  at Mario to take his mind off of it

-More Depression. Depression often accompanied by staring sadly at memento from lost friend

-Bargaining: insistently try to get lost friend to be his friend again

-Bargaining 2, Evil edition: get friend back at literally any cost

So basically I’m concerned about what fixing this entails and also we just got it demonstrated to us how Puzzles’ inability to let go of people causes more problems and he needs to learn to move on. But also his attachment to the little mementos… ough. He sentimental…

But also also I don’t think he will achieve satisfying character development simply by having the bargaining: evil edition not be necessary with WPNZ. And if Puzzles does get to the point of bargaining: evil edition with WPNZ, WPNZ might kill him. He needs to learn acceptance and learn to move on much more than he needs to reconcile with WPNZ. If he and WPNZ see each other again before Puzzles can get that character development, things will only get worse.
