Loud online discourse people concluding that zoos are all, every last one of them, evil & must be destroyed bc some zoos are bad for animals & some people very loudly want a kind of all-or-nothing binarism where entire classes of thing are good or evil is silly, but they've also done something with museums

Like when those artifacts were stolen from a Dutch museum earlier this year, and it sparked responses saying "Well, good! Now they can return those artifacts to their home country!". And someone involved had to explain, very gently, as if to a child, that the artifacts were on loan from their home country & that museums are not in fact just evil hoarders bogarting stolen artifacts for evil reasons. Like the home country was horrified that their artifacts were likely melted down for gold & lost forever

Also, like. They know if someone stole stuff from the British Museum they probably wouldn't be the "what if Tomb Raider stole back artifacts from museums?" fantasy people crave but like...thieves who would sell it or melt it down, right? Right

I'm assuming by "pet a dinosaur" you don't mean a modern-day bird, right? I get to go back to the Mesozoic and pet a Brontosaurus excelsus? Or have one transported forward in time to me so that I may pet them? 🇺🇸massive recall of food, baking ingredients, and cosmetics due to insanitary conditions, filth, and rat shit contamination🇺🇸

over 150 items being recalled, including some intended for babies. the FDA warns that all products held or distributed by this company may be dangerous.

this recall is so bad that you need to clean and sanitize anything that has even touched the outside of these products.

the recall link may move in the future. this recall has its own special FDA page right now because the FDA issued an advisory immediately after inspection, before a recall could even be issued. the findings of the inspection were just THAT fucking disgusting.

June 3, 2025 On May 27, 2025, Pan-African Food Distributors initiated a recall of various products it sells. FDA continues to have concerns for all products held and distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors due to the insanitary conditions observed at the facility during a routine FDA inspection, including a rodent infestation and numerous rodent droppings on multiple product containers. FDA is advising consumers and retailers not to use, eat, sell, or serve cosmetic and food products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors of Louisville, Kentucky. FDA is working with the firm and their direct customers to remove all products of concern from the market. More information will be provided in this alert as it becomes available.

the distribution center was inspected, the FDA found a massive rodent infestation, and they shut that shit down. literally, they found a ton of rodent shit all over the products. although the distribution center is in kentucky, these products may have been distributed nationwide.

pan-african food distributors is also doing business as (dba) east africa boutique, LLC.

the FDA says more updates will be issued about this. because this one is a big deal.

Products held under insanitary conditions and contaminated with filth could pose a serious health risk, potentially leading to various illnesses, including leptospirosis, hantavirus infection, salmonellosis, yersiniosis, E.coli infection, and rat-bite fever. People should contact their healthcare provider if they suspect they have developed symptoms as a result of eating or using these products.

the risks here are varied and bad. bad bad. bad and potentially deadly. if you have used or eaten or even held these products and experience symptoms, GO TO A DOCTOR!

Consumers should check their homes for food and cosmetic products distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors and discard all products. If you do not know if your product was distributed by Pan-African Food Distributors, throw it away. Additionally, consumers should carefully clean and sanitize surfaces that could have come in contact with potentially contaminated products.

hot take: we're literally already past the point of the fascist us government recognizing "detrans awareness day." this terminology is not salvageable

if you're cis, you're cis. if you initially came out as a trans man or a trans woman and later realized you're nonbinary, you are still trans. being nonbinary is trans. if you are being forcibly denied medication and healthcare that you previously had access to, or if you are closeted for your safety after previously being out, then you're obviously still trans you're just experiencing transphobia.

we don't need the "not all detransitioners are transphobic and some of us support transition" takes. we don't need "detransition" as an identity.

the construction of the terminology itself suggests that being cis is a default state that one can theoretically always "return" to through medical "reversal" (and thus, implicitly also through denial of medical care, or coerced medical procedures). this framework is transphobic and is very predictably used to further explicitly transphobic political projects. this is not a hypothetical to debate, but a description of how the term is being leveraged functionally right now.

please stop trying to resignify this terminology. this is a losing battle over a term that erases specificity of experience and contradicts sexgender theory and analysis that we collectively rely on for trans liberation.

I'm not criticizing anyone who previously used or currently uses this term. I'm not saying that you were or are transphobic. I am not making any judgement about any individual at all with this post. I am speaking about political tactics and where we go from here.

I am begging you to find other language to discuss your experience. please.
