Nine ropes

me and Katie use a slide to help present our idea. Firstly, we talked about the layout like how we use different style to attract audience. so I am responded to the backside. As I like YouTube and music a lot, I remember recommended some songs and comedy in the newspaper. I hope reader could look more on this topic by daily entertainment.Â
I want people who have sudicidal thought feel secure, as they find someone who has the same thought and they will notice they are not alone. Also, while they notice about the consequence of killing themselves, they might stop their negative thought and find someone to help as we suggested in the newspaper and stop hurting themselves or commit suicide
we want them to notice there is so much help that provided in the society, and notice the consequence if they kill themselves, there is no take two.
I really like our idea of the content. Itâs basically come up with the idea on the news on the newspaper which is written by Katie. We put newspaper on the hanging rope.
10 newspapers with rope will be filled once a day. Whenever a person takes away the newspaper, the rope will be removed. Therefore, when you go into the corridor/ library, you can notice that there are numerous hanging ropes on the ceiling without people hanging on it but newspapers. We hope it could help to raise attention on this topic and make more people care about their friends and family, or even the society.Â
I understand this is a very depressing topic...( sorry for ruining your morning) but thank you all of my classmates pay attention to our presentation.

What is critique? It means responding to work with critical thought and methodical analysis. Feedback is important in this industry as we are basically creating something for other. So we must know what others need and what they think. We need them to improve ourselves.
I also learn how to give feedback and the attitude to receive opinions. I understand some it could be hard judged by others, but there is always some reason the said that. Therefore, it is important to be open-minded. I could not accept to change but their opinions help you to look in different perspective.
âTo become better, to make progress, to grow and change.â
then, we have a little section to give feedback to every other group. It is the first time to see other work. I really happy to see every group have different style, Morden,stylish,vintage, and I find out there is so much I could improve. Hope my opinion can help them.

Seven Dwarfâs Hat
Today! we talked about context. Context means the circumstances that form the setting of something that allows the thing to be fully understood. Why we need to concern about this is because it helps us focus on our topic without digressing, it allows us to think about the design purpose, help us to express our design concept...
Audience is also important for a design project. If you audience don't know what you are doing, your design is quite useless. It is important you audience could understand your concept.

Then, we were asked to write down who your audience/user is for our newspaper and what context is appropriate for your newspaper to be in.
Fewer days before, I do discussed about the audience with Misssss Katie before. We decided one page for teenagers those who have the intension to suicide and to backside for who donât really understand what suicide people thinking/ donât care about suicide people.
In the slides, I was really impressed by peopleâs creativity and Charis inspired me to think more on the content.
I realised there is many ways I could play with and make the design more interesting.
Then, we started to find resources again and come up some ideas.
Lastly, we think of some question to make the design more reasonable and real. Hope we can make some interactive idea in our final.

Observational research is collecting data about the ways in which things, people, and systems behave, interact, and change over time. This enables researchers to see their subjects make choices and react to situations in their natural setting, as opposed to structured settings like research labs or focus groups. We can get a preliminary feel for things, get started and excited about starting, it helpsObserve things that people are unable or unwilling to share when asked directly, it Identify hierarchy, social interactions, subtleties in relationships, and cultural habits etc... Although I believes this is a really good way to do research, there is some limitation. For example, the researcher is not 100% objective, has biases and inabilities, The researcher must understand his or her gender, generation, ethnicity, class, theoretical approach, etc andThe researcher will affect how things happen just by the fact of their presence...
However, I would still like to use the type of research in my future project. I think it helps me to understand more on what my audience need.
Then, we had a small exercise, we read âLinking Researchers across Generationsâ by Anna K. Behrensmeyer from the book Field Notes on Science & Nature. It is interesting and I learn how to do the draft for Observation research. And I do agree something we can only express by painting and it has a stronger impression.
After that, Charis played a video of a walk through Tokyo, Jiyugaoka to Oyamadai (YouTube channel Rambalac) for 15 minutes. We needed to think of a system for observational research. Then, I think of maybe a could draw a map with the name of the restaurant existed in that video.

It is harder than I thought as I need to pay attention and concentrate to what I am drawing. Also, You can see this may is not well organised. Maybe I should set some symbol, like set a certain are or symbol for certain lenght of street.
I was also asked to record fieldnotes by the window. As it is cold and raining that day,I choose to count how many window is open and how many houses forget to collect their clothes. I also draw the shape of different window. I think I did better this time. At least I have a clear direction and I didnât panic because of the timer. ha

It is a great time to draw these thing. It is fun to everyone choose to draw different thing from the window!

Five cm of hair
Yeahhhhhhhhh welcome to lesson 5
So, letâs talk about anatomy.
We express and receive visual messages on three levels.Â
Representationally, Symbolically and Abstractly.
1.Representation is using part of the subject to show the meaning. ( if I didn't get it wrong...) As reality is the basic and dominating visual experience, an object can be identified through a general shape, linear, and detailed characteristics. All this visual information is easily obtainable through various levels of the direct experience of seeing.Â
2.Symbols can span from a simple picture to a highly complex system of attached meaning, such as language or numbers. In all its forms,symbols can be used to reinforce messages and meaning in visual communication.
3.Reducing everything we see to the simplest visual elements is also a process of abstraction that, in fact, is more important for the understanding and structuring of visual messages
Abstraction can be just provides you a certain feeling. it must not be minimal representational information
In this painting, we donât really see any object but I can feel like there is a boat on the ocean with the storm and waves. Whatâs more, I could sense the emotion of anger, maybe is the power of nature or maybe others would have different opinions from me.
Lastly, we have ask some question about the assignment and we have a Library Workshop !

Four little bear
SO-------today, we first talk about what aspect of my work am I most satisfied with and what aspect of this assignment did I find most challenging.
I think the part I feel most satisfied is using small line to create gradient. Inn the process, although it is tough to create these many small small line, I felt success about creating this symbol that nearly perfect matched with my mind!!!!
What I find challenging is the process of thinking how to design to this design. As suicide is not same as death, it is a theme that full of negative emotion, is you killing yourselves. It is had to show the feeling of depression.
Also, after I create the black symbol with white background, I try on the opposite colour. However, I was suggested to change the strokesâ point and the size of the circle as different colour might create a visual illusion. I will keep adjust my work in the future.
Then, me and Katie started to discuss about Assignment 02: Newspaper.
Based on some question, we started some brainstorm. For example, some research questions and some references for layout.
I think these question can defiantly help us to think about what we are going to do in this project in the future.
Btw, it is so sad that we need to have lesson online... I hope everything will be okay soon... so I could get back to school and enjoy my lessons with friends...

Three drops of blood
What is âresearchâ? Not only âsearchâ ,but âresearchâ. According to the American sociologist Earl Robert Babbie, âresearch is a systematic inquiry to describe, explain, predict, and control the observed phenomenon. It involves inductive and deductive methods.â We can take a look at the following images.
I think primary research is the best research method. Primary research guarantees that the information collected is up-to-date and relevant, enabling accurate trends to be revealed. But is time-consumingâŚ
Then, we have a session to talk about our design logo work.



These are really amazing! Like how they turn their concept into logo and simplify their sketches.
In my design, I try to make it depressing. As the theme suicide is not same as death. It is sadness and hopeless.
After a small discussion, we agreed that the left bottom design is the best one to develop. As we could have our own explanation and it create a high contrast to make visual impact.

Two eyeballs
In the second lesson￟, we have mentioned about the basic design elements For instance,line, shape,texture,space,size,value and colour. Also,we recap the principles of design that we have taught in semester 1. Balance, emphasis, rhythm,unity,contrast⌠etc.

Then, we were asked to stick the 60 sketches that we were asked to do last week on the wall.
Each of us need to choose 2 sketches for each other person by their topic with sticker.

After a small break, each group will then be assigned another group and present that groupâs work in 3 mins (wh-) and describe the work.
My group is going to present the work created by âThreekâ. Their topic is about folktales. Their works are cuteeeeâ¨â¨(sorry i forgot to take photo) There is a little monster , cute animal, Loch Ness MonsterâŚit is a very flexible and free topic as the can draw something abstract or something about their imagination. It could be scary, it could be fun and adorable! I believe they have a good time in drawing those sketchesâââ
My groupmate chose a sketch of candle for further explanation. I chose a sketch about a little monster with 4 eyes and two mouth(?). It is so cute and attracts me that I canât ignoreďżź TT. But I suggested to delete some elements and emphasise one of it. For example, focus on the eyes and make it bigger to create a impact for viewers.
I also get suggestions by other classmates. As most of my art are complex and more like a illustration (?) They seemed to like the works created by my group mate more. I guess in the next step i can create something simpler and clean.
So, letâs start my assignment for next week lesson (ăťĎăťď˝)

One finger
In the first class, we were asked to read an article written by NICOLE FENTON ! I like the quote he used.Â
EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED!
I never thought about it. Maybe oxygen is one of the elements that affect my designâŚ
Design is a process that connects to different materials, people, theories, principles, dimensions...etc
In the lesson, we were asked to think about some objects that you can think of immediately about design in 5 mins(?). My brain stopped. I could only think of something like Adobe, my brain, my handâŚXD or maybe like communication, improve life quality and moneyâŚ

So, We can design many things in different situations with different purpose. For me,to conclude design in a sentence, design is a process to create something fun to specific people to improve their life quality or solve problems.
We have a small exercise in the class.

Then, we were asked to choose a topic that is important for me and the society (i guess) and write a mindmap for brainstorming and draw 6 sketches about it. I choose suicide as my topic as this is a topic always struggle to the community. Most of the people have suicidal thoughts once or more but they wonât talk about it. But I think it is normal and there is so much we can talk about it. Your sadness ,your imagination and your reasons etcâŚ


Lastly, our group name is âMirageâ !
I canât wait for the next stage.
