“Kolina.” Wally stopped abruptly at the entrance when he saw her. Catching his breath from running, he carefully maneuvered around the broken bottles. “It’s good to see you,” he said, as if they’d been estranged for some long period of time. “Shit, I can’t believe it’s all gone. Did you - did you just get here?” He reached his hand out to her. “Be careful.” He imagined that the potion shops destruction had happened months ago, and that any magical residue had filtered out into the air. But still, there could be traces of it left. 

Wally was a bit strange to Lina. Perhaps that was her fault, she didn’t really think that they had much of a sibling relationship. She didn’t know how to connect with the man other than magic. “Their spellbook was left,” She said. Lina would have never left her own spellbook, which made her quite positive that something had happened to the owner. “I got here a few minutes ago.” She shrugged at the be careful. She knew the risks of coming in.

Connor was passing by when he saw the open potion store and couldn’t help but investigate. Not that he was going to steal anything, but there might have been something handy inside. Standing in the doorway he say Kolina picking up a book and dusting it. He casually leaned against the frame, “Fancy seeing you here.” He said with a grin. “Is… was this place yours?” He asked, motioning a hand to the interior of the store. 

The moment of silence and contemplation was broken when Connor’s made it’s way to her, but she didn’t necessarily mind. Sometimes thinking too much was as bad as not thinking at all. “No. I just came here often,” She glanced around. “I had hoped the owner would be here, but it looks like they aren’t. We don’t leave our spellbooks behind.”

The potion’s shop located on the edge of the forum district had been a place that had always been fascinating to Cat. Despite her lack of natural magic, it didn’t stop the arcane from being a fascinating source of information for her and as a young girl she’d spent hours gracing the aisles of this store. “I’m sure they’ll appreciate you helping out,” she said quietly, almost unsure of how to approach this situation.

Lina’s eyes cut from the book to Cat, surprised to see the other woman in this shop. Though, she didn’t know why she was surprised anymore when it came to Cat. Pulling the book to her chest,“Who know’s if they’re still around. I would have already come back for my book if it had been missing.” This had been the best potion shop in the entire city and Lina hoped the owner was okay, but she would have never left her spellbook behind.

There was no way to describe the way that ending the war feels like. It had been months and months since she had not been an enemy of New Rome and it felt completely strange. She felt like a ghost, wandering a life that used to her’s but had been lost. She didn’t like the feeling at all. She slowly began to clean up the shop that used to be the potion shop. It had not survived well and she wasn’t sure if the owner had. Finding a spell book, she brushed off the dust,“Your owner is probably looking for you.”

Annabeth shook her head in disagreement before saying. “Nearly every table is now a public table around here.” The Greeks were practically living on top o one another in their little encampment. “That doesn’t mean the stuff on them is public.” 

“That’s true and there hasn’t been that many supplies lately, so people are used to sharing things, even if they aren’t meant to.” Lina pointed out, having seen quite a few people move into allowing some of their electronics to be shared. “Either way, I wasn’t going to steal it, I was going to move it, since I also have to use this public table for work.”

Connor thought about it, he hadn’t really noticed if it uncurses the lock or prevent the owner from knowing. “Knowing my dad, it probably temporarily breaks the curse, so the next sucker to try and steal from here gets cursed, but.” He scratched his chin, “He is the god of thieves so I mean, maybe it just doesn’t let the owner know? There’s only one way to find out.” He grinned and locked the lock back into place. “I could always try opening it without using my skills and see what happens?” 

“Why would he want the next person to get cursed if he’s the god of thieves?” She asked curiously. She personally thought that wouldn’t be in his interest, but then again, she didn’t really know how Greek Gods worked. “It’s going to hurt if you try it. The curse is meant to shock you.”

Connor watched with interest as she cursed the lock and then took the lock from her and placed it back where it was before, locking it in place. “I hope the curse isn’t deadly, you know,just in case I don’t succeed.” The trouble with uncursing locks was that he didn’t always manage to unlock it, depending on the level of magic used. Connor lent down and hovered his hand next to the lock, feeling the mechanisms inside and the magic that protected the lock. As if solving a puzzle in his mind, he scrunched his eyes shut tight with concentration. After about a minute of talking to himself and mentally undoing the curse and unlocking it, the lock popped open and Connor almost stumbled backwards. “Tada.” He managed, standing up weakly. 

“Not quite deadly.” She replied with a smile. It would shock him if he didn’t succeed and let her know that he tried to open it. She watched with a critical eye, mentally taking notes as she observed. She looked him over,“So it exhausts you, then? It’s impressive that you were able to break it. I didn’t even feel the curse breaking so I assume that while the lock is open, it’s still technically cursed? Or your powers made it so I wouldn’t be able to tell.”

“Ah yes, breaking curses.” He hummed as she brought the subject up. He had remembered their conversation in the infirmary and he had offered to help her breaking the curse on a lock. “Would you still like to know how I break curses when it comes to locks?” It was going to be hard to explain to her, but she had been nice to him so far and he probably owed it to her. He looked around and willed a lock on a nearby chest to open itself. He then removed it and locked it before passing it to Kolina. “Will you do the honors and curse this?” 

“Of course I would,” Lina answered quickly. It was always good to learn about other people’s powers. Especially when she could later improve herself because of it. She watched with interest when he willed the lock open and then took it from him. She began to whisper to the lock, her eyes glowing a milky white as she did. “Here you are. A freshly cursed lock.”

“Maybe I just assumed people wouldn’t go around touching things that aren’t their’s,” Annabeth countered. Nevertheless, she was relieved to see Lina cease and desist. “Why would you assume it’s cursed?” Annabeth asked. “And if it was you shouldn’t want to touch it more.”

“To be fair, anything left on a public table seems to be fair game now.” Lina was quite nosy at times herself, her curiosity often getting the better of her. “I don’t really know why else it would be so important not to touch it unless it was actually going to harm me.” She shrugged,“Curses are cool. Not when we’re cursed, but it’s important knowledge to have.”

Connor was going to point out that he was only joking, but perhaps it was too soon to joke about the curses. Looking at the vial again he nodded, decoration seemed cool. “Well, if you ever get bored of it, let me know and I can sell it for hella cash.” He’d give the money to her after selling it, well, most of it anyway. “Or you know, if you ever feel like switching things up, I can maybe get you a necklace that has a different curse or something.” He offered, “How about one that has someone’s voice trapped in it? Or one that keeps soles, who knows.” 

“I have enough money to last me sometime, but I’ll keep that in mind.” Lina had acquired some funds and favors for her magic skills over the past few months. It was always important to have favors, especially during a time of war. “I’m always open to more cursed objects. Let me know if you have anyone looking to break curses on their things as well, I’d love to start breaking those.”

Connor listened and thanked the gods yet again that he had stayed an extra few days in that casino otherwise he too might have been cursed. He had never had any issues with the things of the Hecate kids, he normally sensed curses, thus leading him to think that maybe Lina was bluffing about this cupboard being cursed. 

“Sounds horrible, glad I wasn’t here and missed out on the free T-shirt for that.” He was curious about the vial. “Is the blood to be used on someone else? Or for something more like a cyanide pill?” He asked. Perhaps she intended to use it as both? 

There weren’t many people fully willing to curse something, thought Lina thought that was because of the association they had with it being bad. She knew that at least in New Rome and the Legion, people who could curse their things do so to keep sticky fingers from their things. She might just curse this cupboard to prove a point later.

“No one got a free t-shirt,” She replied back lightly, missing the joke a bit. She looked down at the blood, spelled to keep from coagulating. “Who knows? I like it as decoration mostly, but maybe I’ll use it one day.”

Connor scratched his chin as he thought about it. “No, I don’t really want to risk it.” He still wasn’t sure of Kolina was bluffing or not, but he definitely did not want to be an abnormal skin tone like blue. He took a step away from the cupboard when she confirmed it was hers, making the situation a little more awkward. 

When Lina pulled the vial and told Connor what was in it, his expression turned to one of curiosity. “Why did one of your legionnaires have cursed blood?” That was the real question here, and what was she using cursed blood as an ingredient for? It just reminded him of how weird the world that he lived in could get. 

She smiled at him. He wasn’t the first or the last person to get curious about her weird cupboard. She had seen plenty of kids with the heads in there. She didn’t really mind it, it was a good chance to teach them a lesson. At least to know who’s things they were going through. “Trivia and Hecate kids tend to curse their things around here. So know who’s stuff you’re looking through before you do,” She said lightly.

“She was cursed, when all the others were cursed. Her’s was particularly interesting. Anything she touched would die. I wanted to see if her blood had the same property. Now I have it and the curse attached. Didn’t know about this one before.” She smiled at the vial. “I’m thinking of making a necklace with some of the drops in it.”

“Oh is that right.” He asked with a smug look on his face. “Nice to see you again Lina.” He remembered her from the infirmary and their conversation about locks. “What kind of curse?” He hadn’t felt anything when he came in contact with it, but then again, he wasn’t a curse detector, only when it came to locks. “Does this belong to you?” He asked, motioned to the cupboard. 

“Do you want to risk it?” She asked just as smug. “It’s a pleasure Connor.” She crossed her arms casually,“Think of it like one of those dye packs that banks put in the bags during robberies. I’ll know who it is based on the fact that your hands and face are bright blue.” Her personal chest had that one as well as a curse that stuck the item to the person’s hand. Made it easy for her to take it back from them. “It does, I keep some of my potion ingredients here.” She pulled a vial from the box he was looking through, which contained a few small crystals as well. “This is my former legionnaires cursed blood. Pretty cool right?”

Connor was taking a ‘Stoll stroll’ through the camp. It was a term that other campers used to describe the event of a Hermes child casually taking a walk with empty pockets and returning with their pockets bursting at the seems. He hadn’t found anything valuable, a fidget spinner, a tennis ball, a few denarii and a pack of gum. It wasn’t until he passed by a storage cupboard that he stopped dead in his tracks and backtracked to it, deciding that this, ‘suspicious’ container, needed a thorough search. He was deep inside when he keen ears heard footsteps and he immediately backed away and closed the storage unit up. 

“Hey, how’s it going?” He said casually to the person that had, or had almost, caught him red handed. “Anything interesting happening?” 

Lina had been on a walk when she saw the man she had met in the infirmary in a storage cupboard that was certainly not his. She smiled as she leaned against a wall near him. “It’ll curse you if you take anything from it,” She said softly. It wasn’t true, she didn’t curse things usually, especially not after the whole issue with curses. Her journal was cursed and so was her personal chest. In areas where other people frequented, she left them unguarded. Especially since she often had someone else fetching things for her.

“Hey, hey, hey! No! Don’t touch that!” Annabeth called out to the person that was stretching their hand out, by all means looking as if they had no intention of stopping. She was already moving to grab them backwards should they not heed her words, ready to pull them away in an instant.

Lina stopped her movements, her eyes cutting towards Annabeth sharply. She took her hand back,“Maybe put a sign on it.” She replied, as she moved away from her, to avoid being grabbed. “What is it anyway?” With a glint in her eyes she asked,“Is it cursed, is that why I can’t touch it?”

“Everything’s okay..” She echoed as she rubbed her eyes, trying to wake herself up as she finally fully sat up in her bed. As Lina explained the curse was broken, Blossom looked at her with a confused look on her face. “It’s broken?” She asked in shock and glanced down at her hands, as if her hands were to look any different because the curse was broken. Slowly, she reached a hand out and softly touched Lina’s arm. “You’re sure it’s broken? You don’t feel anything?”

Lina sat back on her heels watching Blossom with a small smile. She was exhausted and sure that she’d be sleeping for a long time, but she had to tell Blossom before she got any rest. Lina put her hand over Blossom’s, squeezing gently. “I broke it myself. Well, me and Wally did. I’m positive it’s done. I just feel your hand. Nothing else. You can touch things again.”
