When I think of the teeny tiny little concessions James McGraw made towards looking like a pirate it always makes me laugh its so deeply charming. What I love about The Sunshine Court and Jean Moreau specifically is we go into it with these snippets of these characters and we think we know what this story is going to be. Another classic "the grumpy one is soft for the sunshine one" and while that's certainly not untrue, it's not entirely true. Because here's the thing. Jean Moreau is soft. Not just for Jeremy.

Jean doesn't know Cody, but he sees them looking uncomfortable and makes sure they're safe. He calls Josiah to make sure Zane is safe after Colleen's death.He worries about Lyle after hearing about his breakdown. Cat is the first person he asks about anything personal. He lets Tanner follow him around and teaches the freshman extra drills because they look at him like he is the sun. He loves his sister. He braids Laila's hair and kisses Cat's temple.

Jean is soft even though he was never allowed to be. But now he is.

The thing is that andrew killing tilda was the equivalent of a cat killing a mouse and dropping it at your feet, only the twins were raised as different creatures speaking different languages so instead of seeing it as the act of love and devotion it was aaron reacts with anger and disgust and fear and andrew reacts pretty much like a cat that has brought you a mouse and got kicked for his troubles aka cold resentment and faux indifference yk?

“Kevin fumbled Jean Moreau” is true and funny. But I raise u. “Kevin fumbled Jeremy Knox” is actually way funnier and way more canon. Imagine losing ur celeb crush to the guy who had a crush on u that u didn’t like back, and thought u outranked & were better than. Oh it’s too good

there is smth beautiful about Andrew not trusting Neil when he has this whole quiet boy persona act on, and the more Neil starts to be the instigator he was born to be Andrew falls for him

Andrew watched Neil slowly let the mask slip down and watched him act more and more like a fucking freak only to then essentially go “big fan of your dysfunction”

Thinking again about the scene where the little asshole kid is throwing rocks at Miranda and the fascists of Charlestown throw refuse at her body and how London society and her father-in-law treated her and how the loves of her life ignored her warnings and how she couldn't catch a break for a single fucking second and her story was never her own and she never even made a serious mistake she was just screwed by the world and the narrative and I'm weeping and wailing all over again.

aftg but neil is genuinely wholeheartedly under the impression that andrew and kevin are boyfriends. which is basically just the first book and half of the second but i mean we let him keep that energy the whole way through. andrew says he'd blow him and neil is like ??? pretty sure kevin would take issue with that??? and andrew, thinking neil is referencing their deal, is like ??? kevin doesn't care what i do when im away from him??? and neil is like ??? but you're always with him when im around??? and andrew is like ??? i would tell him to go away??? and neil is like ??? i don't think you should do that??? and andrew is like ??? u mean u want him to watch??? and neil is like ??? i didn't agree to this but if i was going to then yes, im not going to make you send kevin away??? and anyway this is how both andrew and neil operate under the assumption that the other is angling to enter a throuple with one another and kevin day and kevin has no clue about any of this
