Made the mistake of watching the entirety of season four of the umbrella academy. I’ve got some thoughts to get out so here we go.
-why did this whole marigold Durango thing just come out of basically nowhere? No real buildup besides the occasional view of yellow mist?
-also why it makes two people with it merge into some world ending monster blob? Ew
-Ben and Jen deserved more. The actors had chemistry and I would’ve loved a different storyline for them where they still got to be in love but didn’t turn into a blob.
-Klaus and his subplot contributed nothing. Gave me nothing. Not sure why that was his thing instead of, I don’t know, something more substantial to his character and the growth and backslide he went through? But creepy bikers and ghost dog I guess woof woof
-Luther deserved more than being a sexy lamp. That’s all he was this season it felt like. A pretty face and funny gags. Legs and eggs.
-Diego. Oh poor Diego. He has gone through too much character development for all of that. What a terrible storyline for him. Unnecessary drama.
-Viktor felt disconnected from the storyline while being in the middle of it. Weird. I don’t think any of the actors were feeling this writing and character assassinations.
-I have nothing good to say about what they did to Five. Worst character assassination yet. The only thing good was Brisket Five. What is his story.
-Lila was more than a love triangle enticement. She deserved better. Like the laser eyes tho. Unnecessary but cool.
-Allison, whom I hated last season, was maybe the most compassionate character again like she was in season one? That was good, but felt off since last season made her such a villain but now that she has Claire back she’s good again. There wasn’t any growth to be had or improvement. Disappointing. Her goodness is entirely dependent on her daughter’s presence. Boo. Face consequences.
-Abigail was underdeveloped and confusing. Could’ve been used better.
-you mean ten percent of New York (or wherever this was) was waiting on a Muse song to play on the radio before they go to start a mob?
-this season honestly felt like someone watched The Boys and wanted to take notes. Ew.
-great all these characters we’ve watched the last four seasons cease to exist. Love it.🙃
-this had the same feeling as the Olympic breakdancer. I could’ve done better.
-I love happy endings, but I would’ve been fine with a bittersweet one. This was neither. It was garbage.
-well thank goodness I was worried the Handler wouldn’t get a happy ending. That sure made it all worth it. All is forgiven🙄
I may make a post later on how I would’ve written it, but for now I needed to get the rant off my chest.

At least Deadpool and Wolverine was good even if Umbrella Academy wasn’t. Had to have one of the two summer releases I was looking forward to actually be good.

I know I can’t shut up about him, but Luther maintaining good sibling energy these first few episodes means everything to me-in the most angsty way of course. He is almost overcompensating with how much he desperately wants to keep his family together with relentless optimism. He calls Viktor. He picks up Ben from prison and brings him to the party. He tries so hard all the time, choosing to live in the remains of a house he once knew so intimately in another timeline. He can’t let go of the past, a time when his siblings were together, and that hurts. He is a stripper, a job that requires others to look at his physical attributes, ones that for the first time in years are his own and are not some primate horror show. I know the writing this season has sucked, but Luther still somehow makes sense to me and he still has so much tragedy and self worth issues behind his positive attitude that I could write a novel.

Ya know, no matter who your fav UA character is, not a single one of them deserved this character slander and writing.

I just officially watched the first three episodes of season four and I’m debating watching the rest after seeing spoilers. But my takeaways so far are:
After all they’ve been through, they still don’t really keep in touch? Weird but okay.
Sloane and Ray just gone like that, huh? Doesn’t make any sense but sure.
As a Luther fan, I am devastated that everyone so far has cool upgrades on powers except him, and not only that, they incorporated Pogo’s DNA being part of his power??? How does that work??? Also, like, how awful is that??? He was finally normal again and they go back to bringing that trauma back in his life??? I kinda wanted to see how his power would’ve evolved into new stuff like the others, but whatever.
As a Ben fan since season one, what is happening here. I know this Ben is not Umbrella Ben, but like, cryptocurrency scam artist Ben? No real character development Ben? The plot revolves around him but he’s hardly on screen Ben? Only good thing is that he was giving major Doc Ock vibes in episode three.
I like the potential whump fics that will come out of them getting their powers back. But even a fan of whump fics, I could’ve done without the excessive visceral vomiting.
Diego seems like he was written by someone who really didn’t get his character. I mean they all did seem OOC, but Diego especially to me??? Like that man didn’t give stay at home dad vibes last season with Stanley??? Lila being the stay at home parent? Really? No.
There’s a lot I would’ve changed so far, but I guess overall, the first three episodes were okay.

To be straight up honest? Only the first season of the Umbrella Academy was really good. Season two was closest to season one but still felt unpolished, and three had great moments but a shaky plot and characterization, but nothing really matches the energy and stakes of season one. The shocking plots, the epic fights, the soundtrack, the wacky grunge, even the drama of it all made sense and worked to push the plot. It’s a shame that a good first season used all the ink from the printer and then the longer it went the less good content you got.

Umbrella Academy is almost here and all I ask is that they don’t kill anybody this time. I desperately want them to have a happy ending.

As someone who genuinely liked Luther in season one because I could relate to his intense isolation and loneliness (tho I do not condone his actions and flaws), I love love love his character development throughout the show. After realizing his mistakes and mistreatment of his family, bro just straight up took a whole different approach and now is the guy taking a group pic of his family and jumping into ball pits and just living his best himbo life. Gotta love him for it.
