Our next life lesson begins with Usagi asking Motoki (and Mamoru, who invited himself along) for advice.
Tumblr media
Why does Usagi need advice? Her best friend, Naru, has an enormous crush on Masato Sanjoin (aka Nephrite). She obviously doesn’t want her friend to get hurt by being involved with a bad guy like him, but since Naru had such a strong negative reaction to when Usagi warned her the first time, Usagi doesn’t know what to do now. So, without getting into specifics, she asks for advice on what to do next.
Motoki suggests that Usagi wait to see what happens — maybe Naru will lose interest on her own.
Tumblr media
Mamoru, on the other hand, says that if this man is as bad as she’s saying, then she needs to muster up the courage to tell her friend the truth — ASAP.
Tumblr media
And that’s exactly what she ends up doing.
Tumblr media
With courage, Usagi reiterates her concerns about Nephrite Masato Sanjoin to Naru, urging her — no —pleading for her to stay away from him.
Tumblr media
Except……Usagi’s courage only went so far.
While she may have been brave enough to share her worries with her friend, she didn’t have the courage to stick around and listen to what her friend might have to say in response.
Tumblr media
“He’s a super evil guy never talk to him again okay byeeee!!”
Back at the house, Usagi tries to brag to Luna about how courageous she was earlier that day.
Tumblr media
Then Luna asks her what Naru said next.
Tumblr media
Whoops.
Luna scolds Usagi for leaving without waiting for Naru’s response. How is she supposed to know whether or not her friend took her words to heart? But Usagi isn’t too worried about how it turned out. In fact, she’s certain that Naru got the message.
Tumblr media
……right?
Tumblr media
……RIGHT???
The thing about tough conversations with friends is that they have to actually be conversations — meaning that both people need a chance to talk. Sure, it can be scary to anticipate how they might react — at best, they could agree — at worst, perhaps they get so upset and decide that it’s you that they never want to speak to again.
But that’s the decision that needs to be made — what is more important to you? Your friendship with this person, or this person’s wellbeing? Who knows, even if they disagree and say that you’re wrong and stop being friends with you, there’s always a chance that they may take your advice later on — they might even apologize for not listening to you sooner and ask to be friends again. You never know.
What can give me the courage necessary to have a conversation with my friend/loved one about my concerns for their safety/wellbeing?

She is the one named, Sailor Moon!
Took a break from costume making to make a whimsigothic PGSM combination trinket box/pin cushion for a very close friends birthday. Everything but the bunny was scrap from previous costumes, and some of the nicer beads from my stash. Had a lot of fun finessing some bits of cotton gauze into Usagi's infamous hairstyle, and making a teeny tiny fuku from super moons organza ribbon. It's in the mail but she should be getting it very soon!

Extremely unique reinterpretation of Luigi (the man in the middle of the top panel) found in an officially licensed 1989 Super Mario Bros. 3 graphic novel from Japan. Here, he is called "Prince Luigi", is not related to Mario or looks anything like him, and is Peach's fiancé.
It is unknown why the author decided to keep Mario and Peach with their standard designs while taking such creative liberties with Luigi.

TAKEUCHI NAOKO INTERVIEW AND ART COMMENTARY TRANSLATION This is a complete translation of the Takeuchi Naoko-related texts from the artbook 5-nin no amajin/purojin ten / 5 Amateurs Turned Pro Exhibit, available for download at Miss Dream. It contains a long 50-questions interview, as well as Takeuchi’s comments on the 20 pieces of color art she chose to include in the exhibit. It would probably be best to read this in tandem with the scans available at Miss Dream, so you can look at the art while reading her comments.

Usagi, Ami and Rei were underrated as a trio. Makoto and Minako being held off helped the first season's pacing.
Agreed, the Usagi/Ami/Rei trio in the first half of Classic is PEAK. I've always thought there was something special and nostalgic about that period of time where it was just the 3 of them.
Of course I love the additions of Mako and Minako and the Inner Senshi function best as a quintet (or sextet, when Chibiusa joins), but still, it's fun to go back and revisit the episodes where it was just Usagi, Ami, and Rei.

A labubu is a powerful charm if the one it is bound to is full of love and not materialism
idk. maybe im too much of a hermit to understand such things. but ultimately it’s a mass produced piece of fabric and cloth put in a “mystery box” to trigger the part of your brain that loves gambling; a carefully-cultivated, intentionally-created market of trendy consumerism and inflated values propped up by a sea of collectors and venture capitalists, all designed to ensure that it’s just quirky enough to be endearing whilst serving as an inherently “prized item” for young adults and teenagers divorced from any inherent value or function. you are not playing with your labubu. you don’t love it just because it looks cute—or, if you think you do, you have been deceived by marketing. it is a commodity of wanting. it is a brand of having. it is devoid of purpose or soul, other than what you give to it—and your choice to give it your soul doesn’t exist in a vacuum

"Makoto's Uniform"
Little bitty doujinshi produced for my patrons last year!
For very short comics I always think of feelings, moods, emotional states. Something that can be a complete thought in the visual equivalent of a paragraph. I know I teased the comic would end up being Sailor Moon, so those were my starting parameters: Sailor Moon characters + something exploring feelings.
I settled on a very simple contemplation: how excited must Makoto have been to move to highschool and finally, finally get to wear the same uniform as everyone else. As a character she struggles so much with being seen as "too big" and forever standing out for it, I can see this little detail meaning a lot to her.
