I tap the mic. “Most people don’t want to crawl down your chimney and steal your dog.”
the crowd murmurs uncertainly.
“If someone wants to steal your dog,” I continue, “there are easier ways to do that. They don’t have to crawl into a chimney.”
Murmuring intensifies. People stand in their seats and begin to boo.
“People disguising themselves as chimney sweepers and stealing dogs is not a rational fear,” I shout. “Literally anyone could steal your dog. Why make sweeping chimneys illegal?”
“I have a list of chimney sweeps who stole dogs from parks!” Someone yells, throwing a shoe.
“You seriously think no chimney sweepers could possibly ever steal from a home?” Another cries.
“Only a dog thief would even want to crawl into a chimney to begin with!” Says a third.
A single tear rolls down my cheek. They are all so fucking stupid
This is a metaphor

if I were a bee I'd fetishize the idea of a beekeeper clipping my tiny wings so I can't escape (remembers you're not supposed to say shit like that) I mean yesterday I ate two yogurts normally

disabled trans woman making progress; still in need of assistance
Tumblr media
hi again. i'll keep it brief. couple updates. health-wise, i'm seeing a psych early next month so hopefully i can get on some medication and be able to function better. arthritis meds still have yet to do anything except maybe make me nauseous.
website is coming along. i expect i'll be in a position to take commissions on a regular basis within the next couple months. until then, i'll need about 550 USD by the end of the month if i want to keep up my streak of narrowly avoiding eviction every 30 days.

money is such an underrated accessibility option.
like people want to think any disabled person who is after money is morally suspect some way, because they're not asking for "treatments" or "accommodations" like a lot of our issues can be fixed way more easily with money. can't drive? paying for a taxi is often one of the more accessible alternatives. can't cook? you can pay more to have prepared food delivered to you. food restrictions? that food straight up costs more money. can't clean? you can pay for someone to do that. house inaccessible? having (lots) of money can help with that, you get the gist.
having money won't make us abled. it also won't stop our symptoms from being distressing, painful, or debilitating. but there's a huge gap in experience between the average poor disabled person and someone who's actually wealthy. you can buy your way out of some of the difficult situations most disabled people are left to rot in. wanting money, needing money, asking for money is pretty natural when it's such a useful tool. why get so weird about disabled people wanting money like i'm pretty sure everyone wants money anyway

One thing able-bodied people don’t get is that sometimes your condition is in its best possible state. My chronic illnesses are incurable. They are progressive and that’s it. With that will come symptoms no matter what. And im very lucky with mine considering the progression of my condition. Frankly I think my mental health has been far harder than my physical.
There is this idea that fighting a doctor or racing through treatment after treatment may fix something. And sometimes it can. But sometimes the body and state one is in is the best it can be. No doctor is going to be able to change it.
A condition has symptoms. Very rarely does it not. And if the condition cannot disappear then neither can all of the symptoms. Improvement is possible - perfection is not. And for me right now; my body is as good as she’s going to be. And I need people around me to accept that so I can live my life free from their judgment and their shame.
It’s a hard fact to explain. And it’s a hard one to accept. But it’s the reality. 🌸

You should be able to say “don’t touch me” to anyone ever in any context and not have it be considered in the realm of surprising or insulting imho if we ever needed to normalize something it’s this
