you actually knock him over with your tackle this time, only after gently setting down the bouquet. you nearly crushed him in your hold, and he didn’t even mind. he took that as an astounding yes, wasting no time in squeezing you back as you two laid in the grass now. the rest of the night was a blur of blushes, laughs, and awkward hand holding. when it finally reached the end of the night you stood in your doorway, flowers carefully clutched to your body. he had initiated the goodbye hug, and you decided to add a little something new. just a peck on the cheek. but that little kiss was enough to send him nearly bolting away towards his room. you watched as he ran away, closing your door with a goofy smile.

nobara and panda make gagging noises as you and toge sit in the back of the classroom. you were sharing one desk, practically sitting on top of each other while playing roblox together. you were waiting for the instructor who happened to be late (when is gojo not late tho) and decided this would be a fun way to pass time. a few minutes passed, you two ignoring the haters while you play.

when the class is over, you leave the room hand in hand already dragging each other towards the vending machines because of course you needed snacks.

you close your eyes and slip your phone into your pocket and knock on the door, keeping your eyes squeezed shut while you hear sounds behind the door. you can tell he only opened the door a crack at first before opening the door fully. his hand snatched yours and he began pulling you, where? you couldn’t say. it was silent, as always, and with your eyes closed all you could do was carefully walk behind him and pretend like your hand wasn’t sweating like hell in his. the walk was fairly short and you felt the fresh air after a minute or two so you could tell that you were outside. after another minute he slowly stops and you stop as well, eyes now more softly closed. you keep them closed and listen to the rustling and shuffling for a second before he says anything.

“salmon.”

you take that as your sign to open your eyes and when you do, you nearly gasped. there was a little blanket laid out with containers of fruit, bags of snacks, and small bottles of drinks. you feel your mouth fall into a pout, but the good kind. the kind where something is so cute you can’t do anything but pout. you look at him, his cheeks a little pink and his mouth exposed with a shy smile. you practically knock him over with a tackle as you hug him tightly, showing your gratitude as best as you could without your words. you two sat at the little blanket, eating snacks and stealing glances as soft music played from someone’s phone. it was sweet, almost scarily sweet. eventually you two were laying side by side on the blanket, looking up as stars slowly began popping up along the dark sky. you looked over at him for just a moment, admiring him before looking back up at the sky. suddenly toge sat up, urging you to join him. you sat up as well, watching him cover your eyes and motion for you to close them once again. you did just that and waited patiently.

“salmon.”

when you opened your eyes, again you were met with the cutest sight. toge holding a bouquet, seemingly handmade. he held it out to you, once again his face dusted with a cute pink. you took them carefully, taking the time to look at the individual flowers and smell the sweet scent. toge seemed to be getting impatient though. after only a minute he abruptly placed a hand on the bouquet and turned it, exposing a different side you hadn’t inspected yet.

you and toge are a little more tense than normal, the vibes not exactly how they used to be. but it was nice having your friend back. you guys were back to playing roblox and fortnite, having fun again and remembering how he pulled you in so quickly. he was funny, and sweet, and silly and everything in between. after a week it was easy to fall back into your old ways with him. always joking around, seeming to telepathically communicate. toge was immensely sorry, and you could tell he was. but you told him that the fact that he took responsibility for his actions and apologized was worth more than he he would ever know. soon you two became inseparable again, hanging out in eachothers rooms and always finding ways to go out and run errands together.

the both of you were laying on your bed, sharing a bowl of candy while playing games on your phones together. after sometime of playing you guys had closed the games for a moment. he had pulled up the notes app and tapped your shoulder to get your attention.

you felt nervous as you prepared the gift you had made him all that time ago. you set it up all nice and cute on the bed next him, making sure they were facing him and not dusty. when you gave him a tap on the shoulder he opened his eyes, which immediately searched for yours. when he followed your gaze he looked down at the little handmade paper enderman and flowers. you couldn’t tell what his reaction was at first, and you felt a pang of anxiety. does he not like it? does he think it’s stupid? does he think you’re stupid?

“tuna mayo?”

he asked, while his hands motioned to his body. you could understand the silent question, for me? you nodded, sending him a nervous smile while you felt your heart racing. before you could react he jumped up from his seated position, being sure to not disturb his gift, and yanked you into a tight hug. you laughed and hugged him back.

“salmon.”

oddly, you couldn’t decipher his meaning this time. you hadn’t included the words ’i like you, idiot’ like you had originally intended but you hoped the gesture itself was enough to get him to understand.

after your mall adventure nobara drug you to her room and placed your trusty whiteboard and marker into your hands as she sat across from you.

“okay. what’s wrong?”

nothing.

you wrote haphazardly, but you knew she could read it. she always could.

“no. there’s clearly something wrong. tell me.”

you sighed and wiped the board off before writing quickly.

you sighed and nodded, tossing your whiteboard aside and laying back on the bed with her. once you left to your room you looked at the little paper crafts you had spent all your free time making. should you still give it to him? should you wait? ugh…. wait! you can ask panda! he’s toge’s best friend, he knows what he’ll like.

toge saw the flash of your name on pandas phone before he picked it up. he watched as panda smiled at the screen, seemingly very happy at whatever you had sent him. he had left the room, though it wasn’t awkward at least not as awkward as you’d think it would be.

toge hated being such a big over thinker. he knew there was probably a simple explanation on why you, his crush, had been talking with and seeing panda, his best friend, more than normal. why you were laughing and smiling. but his head just couldn’t fight the thought. did she really only talk to me to get closer to panda? was he in on it and just letting his friend get led on? those were the types of things he was asking himself as he tried to find the will to try and actually converse with you again.

when panda and toge returned from their mission, you and the others were all just hanging around. when they approached the group they were greeted with congratulations and excitement from their peers. you excitedly waved to toge when you got a glimpse of him. you also waved when panda looked your way, and you went to approach toge. but you noticed a shift in his demeanor, and before you could even take two steps he was giving the group a nod and walking away. you were… disappointed. and you knew your face showed it the way nobara looked at you like a kicked puppy. but you shoved that away for now, and gave panda your attention while he explained what happened and what expeditions they went on.

you and nobara went out to the classic hangout spot, the mall. it was nice. you realized you hadn’t really hung out with her in… weeks? wow. toge was already mad at you. was nobara mad at you too? maybe she was. i mean you had to change everything to make time for her and toge now. ugh this was stressful.

“so? what’s wrong?”

you moved your head slightly as she interrupted your train of thought. you shook your head with a furrowed brow and gave a shake of your hand as well. nothing.

“yeah there is. i can tell.”

you shook your head again before giving a shrug. you didn’t even know what was really wrong. nothing had actually happened. toge just messaged you using a weird tone, but everyone had their off days right?

“is it him?”

you knew that you had given her a look, one that said. it’s fine. it’s nothing. but she continued on.

“what did he do?!”

you cringed at the way she stopped her stride, turning to face you fully. the face you made was enough to get her to sigh and get back on her way through the crowded mall. you didn’t like that she was so enthusiastic sometimes. it wasn’t like you could even say anything right now anyway.

“fine. but you’re telling me when we get back.”

you nodded, knowing you couldn’t hold it in forever. especially not from nobara of all people. but until she could squeeze the information out of you, you enjoyed some time out with your girl.

toge sighed as he watched you and panda split, laughs and hugs shared. don’t overthink. they were just talking. talking… they can’t talk. what were you doing with panda? and why did you look so happy?

he said, acting natural as panda approached.

“hey man. you doing okay?”

panda asked, noting the tension in his body.

“salmon.”

panda sighed, but he knew he couldn’t ask what was bothering him right this second.

“i’ve got to go, text me later yeah?”

he said as he walked away. toge just nodded, also walking in a different direction. what the hell. since when were you and panda all buddy buddy? i mean obviously you had his number, he and toge were best friends so of course you did. but it still… hurt toge. seeing you laughing with, hugging another guy. this was not good. he couldn’t stop from overthinking. so was what you guys had not really all that special? were you just like this with all guys? now toge had just dug himself into a stupid hole of overthinking, mad at you, at panda, and himself.

you try not to overthink it. he’s just nervous. he hasn’t been on a long mission in a while. that’s why he was so curt, so unlike his usual self. you shake it off while you get to work in your room. what would he even like? keychain? bracelet? card? ugh this would take a lot of decision making. in the end you decided on a paper craft, making him minecraft flowers and an enderman. this would definitely take hours, a lot of glue, and patience. but it was worth it to you. you really did like him, and wanted to show him that. even if you couldn’t say it.

panda meets you and tells you a few things about toge. some of the sillier things he has yet to tell you about himself. you felt relieved, glad panda wasn’t making fun of you for wanting to do this for his friend.

“you know good thing you planned this now. toge and i are going on a mission. it should only be a few days but that’ll be enough time for you to do whatever you want.”

you nod, already making plans in your head. i got this. you told yourself.
