“You can imagine just how surprised they were when they sat down at their chairs on that beautiful carpet, and fifty of Barsavi’s men piled into the room with crossbows and shot those poor idiots so full of bolts that a porcupine in heat would have taken any one of them home and fucked him.”

“Do you mark how the wistaria, sun-impacted on this wall here, distills and penetrates this room as though (light unimpeded) by secret and attritive progress from mote to mote of obscurity’s myriad components? That is the substance of remembering—sense, sight, smell: the muscles with which we see and hear and feel—not mind, not thought: there is no such thing as memory: the brain recalls just what the muscles grope for: no more, no less: and its resultant sum is usually incorrect and false and worthy only of the name of dream—See how the sleeping outflung hand, touching the bedside candle, remembers pain, springs back and free while mind and brain sleep on and only make of this adjacent heat some trashy myth of reality’s escape: or that same sleeping hand, in sensuous marriage with some dulcet surface, is transformed by that same sleeping brain and mind into that same figment-stuff warped out of all experience. Ay, grief goes, fades; we know that—but ask the tear ducts if they have forgotten how to weep.”
— William Faulkner, from Absalom, Absalom! (Random House, 1936)

Traveling books
Ok, so I just heard about traveling books and think it’s the coolest thing (if you don’t know what it is, it basically one person reads a book and annotate it, then mail it to another person as that person would annotate it as well. After it finish a round it would be a book with full annotations and everyone’s thoughts on it).
Now, I don’t know it’s too late, but many of us are on vacation. I think it would be awesome if the cosmere fandom do it to either WoK or WoR in preparation for Oathbringer’s release in November (or we can do any of the cosmere books, really. I think it will be super fun to see everyone’s thoughts on the book and the way different ppl react and theorize differently about the same thing). I don’t know if any of you is up for it and I probably still need to work on details, but if you’re interested reblog this post :)!

The Roshar Project
↳ Jah Keved
Jah Keved is one of the five Vorin nations on Roshar and considered the most traditional and devout. It holds the second largest number of shardblades and plate after Alethkar and the nation has developed fabrial shields, called half-shards, that they claim can stop a shardblade. The Horneater Peaks are located within it’s borders and many Vedens can trace their ancestry back to the mountains due to their red hair.

There's always another secret (pt. 5)
You think you know everything about Cosmere? Well, you, my friend, are wrong. There’s always another secret.
Through the good offices of polish fansite, drogakrolow.pl, I bring to you a series of posts listing some Cosmere easter eggs. Some are well-known, other are not. Beware of spoilers!
If you have something else, feel free to add it in a reblog.
Sel
Elantris
Seons are Devotion’s splinters. Skaze are Dominion’s splinters.
The Elantrian’s lake is Devotion’s Shardpool. The paintings in the library show it as a Gate.
The beggar that smuggles stuff to Elantris? Hoid.
Hoid tried to becaome an Elantrian and failed.
Vax is mentioned in the Ars Arcanum. Whatever magic system there is Khriss compares it to Threnodite methods of Initiation
The Emperor’s Soul
Emperor’s fool that betrayed Shai? Hoid.
Ralkalest, the unforgeable metal is aluminum.
Nalthis
Warbreaker
The storyteller is quite obviously Hoid.
Nightblood was based on Shardblades.
There’s a Terriswomen somewhere. It’s speculated that It’s the nurse who tended to Lemex.
Austre is not Endowment.
Threnody
Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell
Shades are not as sentient as other Cognitive Shadows. Shadow worldhopping to Threnody won’t become a Shade.
Slashing a Shade with a silver blade one feels a resistance similar to that of slashing a living thing with a Shardblade. Pssst, it’s Investiture resisting.
The Evil is not a Shard.
The red Starbelt is visible from other Cosmere worlds. It is known as Taln’s Scar on Roshar and the Red Rip on Scadrial.
Threnodites believe in The God Beyond.
First of The Sun
Sixth of the Dusk
The Ones Above are from a world We’ve seen already. They are most probably Scadrians.
Patji’s Eye is a Shardpool-like, but it’s a natural concentration of Investiture.
Taldain
White Sand
Duchess Khrissalla is obviously, Khriss, the author of every Ars Arcanum. Before she became cosmere-aware.
There are some things I’m eager to discuss, but we can’t just yet, as these things were only in the prose.
Bonus: Silverlight.
The star map from Arcanum Unbounded is in Silverlight. It was created by someone traveling through the Shardworlds on foot, not in space. It’s not very accurate. Not every Shardworld is captioned.
Silverlight is a city entirely in the Cognitive Realm, which, btw, is flat.
There are universities with cosmere-awere science. Khriss spend some time there.

There's always another secret (pt. 4)
You think you know everything about Cosmere? Well, you, my friend, are wrong. There’s always another secret.

Roshar
The Way of Kings
Interlude I-1. The foreigners Ishikk speaks with are worldhoppers. Grump is Galladon from Sel, Thinker (They call him „Temoo”) is Demoux from Scadrial, and Blunt is Baon from Taldain.
Interlude I-7. The Mistress is Herald Shalash. She destroys works of art of her.
The Thrill is of Nergaoul, splinter of Odium.
Death Rattles forhadow some events we’ve already seen.
Why have you forsaken us, Almighty! Shard of my soul, where have you gone?
Healer, why do you take my blood? Who is that beside you, with his head of lines? I can see a distant sun, dark and cold, shining in a black sky.
Three of sixteen ruled, but now the Broken One reigns.
The burdens of nine become mine. Why must I carry the madness of them all? Oh, Almighty, release me.
A woman sits and scratches out her own eyes. Daughter of kings and winds, the vandal.
The letter from epigraphs is from Hoid to Frost (Yolenese dragon). He mentions members of 17th Shard looking for him, mentions vessels of Ruin and Odium as well as Devotion and Dominion (Sel).
Taln’s Scar is visible from other Cosmere worlds. It is known as the Red Rip on Scadrial and the Starbelt on Threnody.
Shadesmar’s Expanse of the Vapors leads to Scadrial and Expanse of the Densities leads to either Sel or Nalthis. (Probably Sel, as there is alsoThe Expanse of Vibrance).
Words of Radiance
The letter from the epigraphs is from Frost to Hoid. He asks Hoid to stop interfering, because Odium being trapped in the Great Roshar System is the best thing that could happen.
Decryption of the pattern 15 of The Diagram: Hold the secret that broke the Knights Radiant. You may need it to destroy the new orders when they return.
Zahel uses metaphors with colours and flowers, he mentions a voice in his head that is missing. Zahel is Vasher from Nalthis.
Ardent drawing Bridgemen is Nazh.
Iyatil from Ghostbloods is a worldhopper from Silverlight, though her ancestors come from Southern Scadrial.
Mraize is also a worldhopper – only from Roshar’s Thaylenah. He has a nice collection of alien stuff – a silver knife from Threnody, lock of golden hair from Nalthis, a Tear of Edgli from Nalthis, a vile of white sand from Taldain and a branch of tree with writings on it, probably from Sel.
Felt, an Alethi scout on the Shattered Plains who reports to Lyn during the Battle of Narak is a worldhopper from Scadrial – House Venture’s spy, the guy who spies on Vin for Elend.
The plague in the Purelake is a common cold brought by worldhoppers.
The Sword given to Szeth asks him if he wants to destroy some evil. It’s Nightblood.
In Interlude I-3 Rysn meets Axies the collector and receives a larkin – a creature that can drain Stormlight from someone.
We see another larkin being used by Nalan on Lift in Interlude I-9.
In the same interlude we can see a relief representing Herald. Shalash face is scratched out of it.
Nalan admits he hunts surgebinders because he believes he can stop the Desolation this way.
The man who told Shallan about her brother? Hoid. Not just that. Hoid using emotional Allomancy.
Rock tells a story of a white-haired man that came out of a lake on the Peaks. Yeah, Hoid. Sigzil reacts to that too.
Edgedancer
A guy who jumped into the mouth of a greatshell? Hoid.
The afterimages of Szeth Lift sees are caused by the fact his soul is not sticking to his body that well after his resurrection. A lot of time passed before he was brought back to life. Anyone Invested enough can see it, but Lift’s partial presence in the Cognitive realm helps.
Nale uses his Honorblade, so Shin don’t have it.
Arclo is Sleepless, the dysian Aimian race that observes the events – the texts on the back of the covers are written by them.
Arclo also mentions Axies the Collector.

There's always another secret (pt. 1)
You think you know everything about Cosmere? Well, you, my friend, are wrong. There’s always another secret.

Scadrial
First Era
Mistborn: The Eleventh Metal
Gemmel. Mists avoid him, he mumbles to himself, he seems to know things he is not supposed to know. Gemmel probably has a hemalurgic spike.
Mistborn: The Final Empire
Remember the “blind” informer Kelsier speaks to? Hoid.
Pits of Hathsin are located just above Ruin’s Shardpool.
Mistborn: The Well of Ascension
The Well of Ascension is Preservation’s Shardpool.
Remember fleeing Terrismen Elend and Spook meet? Their leader? Hoid.
Mistborn: The Hero of Ages
Remember that time Vin was supposed to speak with an informer but something told her not to? You probably already know where it’s going. It was Hoid.
And the voice that told her not to? Not Ruin at all.
This Voice also speaks to few other people. I.e. Spook or a soldier that started a brawl with Misfallen.
Owner of this voice also held Preservation before Vin could take it – and Scadrians owe them much for it, as Ruin wanted to splinter the shard which would end with the end of the world.
Elend burning Atium with Duralumin looks into the spiritual realm and smiles as he sees Preservation’s plan.

Scadrial
First Era
Mistborn: Secret History
Yeah, the voice? Not Hoid. Kelsier.
Kelsier peeks into the Spiritual Realm as he looks into Preservation’s eyes.
Hoid took a bead of Lerasium.
Yolen is hidden. Khriss cannot find it.
The pulling Kelsier experiences during his travel to IRE’s fortress is his Connection to Scadrial. He’s a cognitive shadow – Investiture replacing his soul – and he could not worldhop easily.
The fortress is outside Scadrial in space and they have a pipeline through the Cognitive Realm that transports the Dor.
IRE are Elantrians. Ancient ones too.
IRE fears Threnodities. What’s that? Shades? The Evil? Why is that? We don’t know. But maybe that’s why they wanted a Shard on their side.
Vax is a planet in Cosmere Brandon won’t speak about, but Ati in his lasts moment’s thought he’s there and it is mentioned in Elantris’ Ars Arcanum.

There's always another secret (pt. 3)
You think you know everything about Cosmere? Well, you, my friend, are wrong. There’s always another secret.

Scadrial
Second Era
Mistborn: The Alloy of Law
Yomens’ wedding is of two worldhoppers: Joshin Yomen from Scadrial, and Mi’chelle Yomen née Ostlin from Nalthis. What’s more it is a tribute to Josh and Michelle Walker, the founders of 17thshard.com.
Hoid is there too, congratulating the newlywed.
At the end of the book Captain Brettin seems different. Well, he is. He was killed and Harmony replaced him with TenSoon.
Wayne mentions The God Beyond.
The Red Rip is visible from other Cosmere worlds. It is known as Taln’s Scar on Roshar and the Starbelt on Threnody.
Mistborn: Shadows of Self
The coachman Wayne likes so much? Hoid.
The Survivorists know speak about Kelsier’s Ascension.
In the House of Records newspaper there’s a testimony of Lady Nicelle Sauvage on “Visitors from other worlds”. Not worldhoppers tho, Southern Scadrians.
Mistborn: The Bands of Mourning
The fake beggar that gives Wax coppermind coin? Hoid.
Remember the Terriswoman stealing a dance with Wax and asking him about his powers? Not Hoid. Khriss.
In The New Ascendancy newspaper there’s a story “Nicki Savage, Paranatural Detective: The Constructs of Antiquity Part Two. The Ghastly Gondola”. Nicki (Lady Nicelle Sauvage, that has seen “aliens” last time) is a Leecher. She managed to drain power from an alien magic pistol.
Said pistol shoots “ghosts” out. The man she fights curses in the name of “Shadows” and “Helmore” (Hellmoor? Forests of Hell?). The man’s from Threnody. (People believe it’s Nazh, but we don’t know that for sure).
They fight for a map. The map gets torn in half. Map of New Seran at the beginning of the book is torn in half.
At the end of the story there’s a white-haired man offering Nicki a story. Yeah, Hoid.
Also in the New Ascendancy, there’s an advert “Do your metal tools speak to you?” written by K and N. Are Khriss and Nazh looking for Nightblood? Or did Nalthians figure out how to make more sentient awakened objects (let’s hope not)? Or maybe it’s just Shardblades?
Trellium (the unknown metal) can hide someone from Harmony. It’s one of the reasons it’s speculated Trell is Autonomy.

Cosmere Gothic
You should read Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, someone tells you. You pick up the first book. You quite like Kelsier.
Although Vin is badass, you wish there were more female characters. Just wait until Wax and Wayne, your friend tells you. You do not know what that means.
Your friend tells you to keep an eye out for a guy named Hoid. You do. You do not see what’s so notable about him, but you remember the name.
You progress to the second book. You miss Kelsier. Why is Elend so naive? You rant.
You are worried about Marsh.
You start the third book. You do not understand anything. Your friend keeps talking about shards. Shards of what, you ask? They do not answer. No one answers you. You are alone, with far too many questions and no answers, just like Marsh.
You root for Spook.
You are concerned about Spook.
“When I said I missed Kelsier, this isn’t what I wanted!” you cry out to the void.
Your friend tells you to pay attention to Demoux’s physical description. You do, and then you promptly forget it.
You are bothered when Vin flees Fadrex on a recon mission. You do not understand. You find no answers the further you read.
Just thirty more pages, you tell yourself. Your favorite characters can make it thirty more pages.
You cry.
“What’s wrong?” your friend asks when you call them sobbing. “I finished Mistborn,” you say. “Oh,” they say, “I’m so sorry.”
Your friend tells you to read Warbreaker. You like the world of Mistborn. You don’t want to read a completely different series. You want more Mistborn.
Your friend smiles. You read Warbreaker.
You do not understand. Why is Hoid here?
It is time, your friend says ominously, for you to read Stormlight Archive.
You have many questions. Some of these are answered. Many are not, and you gain new questions. You fall in love with Jasnah Kholin.
You find the Coppermind. This does not clarify anything. The more answers you find the more questions you have.
Your friend laughs at your plight. You have no true friends anymore. Only an endless supply of questions.
You read Mistborn Era 2. You have very strong opinions about Wayne. You worship MeLaan as a true goddess in her own right. You are concerned about Sazed.
You finish Bands of Mourning. You scream into the void. I fell for it once already, you tell yourself, I will not fall for it again. Kelsier isn’t really back. Right?
Cackling, eyes brimming with the fires of inner madness, your friend hands you a duct-taped tome. On the cover, etched in faded silver ink that has seen the rise and fall of empires, you can just make out the words “Arcanum Unbounded.”
There are mysterious stains on many pages indicating that your friend either performed satanic blood rituals over the book or stayed up late reading it while eating spaghetti with red sauce. Either is likely, and you do not know which scares you more.
You stare numbly at the wall. School does not move you and neither does work.
You are scared. You are scared of what you do not understand, which is more than ever. You are scared of Kelsier. You are scared of the mysterious gray people (don’t bother with Elantris, your friend told you once). And most importantly you are scared of Hoid.
