Everything about this felt uncomfortable. The whole idea of going at all felt uncomfortable to him. But Kylie was a force to be reckoned with, and it was clear she was set on this.

"...which would you think is going to be more bearable?" Neither option felt good in his opinion. "I still don't understand why my own clothes aren't a suitable option. I'm fine in them doing anything else."

Egon's brows knit together forcefully in his displeasure. 

"If you read my proposal—," of course Peck didn't.

Nor did he elaborate much on his studies. It would've only served to confuse Peck further and would certainly make his eyes glaze over. So he provided an abstract. It was short. Easy to understand. It shouldn't have warranted any questioning. 

His face felt hot and his words were short, "I'm studying the mycoremediation of ectoplasm in our plane of 'living' existence. This has significant implications of an organic dense against supernatural entities; or that fungus has origins beyond our dimension. The research is imperative."

Writing Egon as gay and ace may not make my newest followers bat an eye, but eight years ago??? my god, it was controversy. It caused fights. Beyond the very small GB space, all of tumblr really conflated hyper-intellectualism with being pansexual. However, in the GB space also managed to????? infantilize him into a 40yr virgin???

So obviously, I took that, hit the breaks and threw it in reverse like I was outta time!

Reader, if you too are autistic 🫵 it probably won't shock you for me to say that most autistic people identify as asexual and not-necessarily-genderqueer but that gender isn't an important aspect to their identity! So the same is very much for Egon. He'll say he's a man but the word feels awkward on his tongue. Granted, it isn't something anyone would ask him.

And with that other half, without getting into any details, he's sex positive. Has had sex before. Was abused for it. And will partake in the activity with his partner when approached.

I love love love flipping popular fannon on it's head.

I love that my Kylie and Eduardo trauma bond and become inseparable. I love that they love each other completely platonically and share music and watch bad horror movies. I love that Eduardo helps Kylie move through grief. I love that Kylie helps Eduardo stand up for himself.

They really have far more potential than a forced ship.

Egon has the aux. Watch out! Are you ready for a cacophony of Queen, Oingo Boingo, and the Beastie Boys?

If Egon is choosing to listen to music (because he more often works in relative silence), it's something active and unique. He doesn't like anything along the lines of "easy listening"; anything too soft or monotonous, he finds it annoying. 

I wouldn't say those requirements fall into a single genre, as the aforementioned artists are all different. I don't think he even understands they're very different genres. He likes them and that's all that matters.

And just like he isn't allowed to drive the Ecto, he isn't allowed to pick the music either. "The sound of New York traffic is just as sweet as his taste in tunes."

Kylie is haunted by the ghosts of her past. She is a puzzle due to her past traumas from stress and abandonment. 

On the outside, it's pretty evident that Kylie is neurodivergent and potentially 'looks' autistic. However, in actuality, she suffers from complex post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. These are exasperated by her being a hyperthymesiac as well as having a photographic memory.

(Which-- hold you suspense!-- isn't real. But it was demonstrated in the comics. And there's the whole ghosts are real thing.) 

She doesn't exactly cope well. She has hundreds of journals in which she's documented her life and work and they line several bookcases in her home. That's all. She's never been through therapy. She's never sought help; a learned behaviour from taking care of herself from an early age. 

The closest she's gotten to that is Eduardo. He first helped her move through the grief of losing her grandmother. He's listened to her talk about her parents. He knows there's something more, but hasn't cracked that nut yet. 

That nut is based on the Extreme Ghostbusters episode Grundelesque which, despite the denial, is pretty irrefutably an allegory for child molestation. 

I won't go into to much detail with that, but it left her defensive, aggressive, and touch adverse. She has a difficult time forming and maintaining relationships with others. She has difficulty trusting others. Even after finding stable work with the Ghostbusters and has people supporting her through university, she's still stuck in survival mode and doesn't know how to break out of it.

I wouldn't ever call Kylie modest. However, it isn't like she has many options in her wardrobe. 

She took 'DIY or Die' to heart if only because that's been her reality. She grew out of the clothes she wore in high school so just about everything she has is either thrifted or her grandmother's. And most often dyed. 

At a formal event, that's likely what she'd do: pick up a dress secondhand-- likely from the 60's or 50's-- dye it black and accessorize to hell with fishnets, jewelry, and belts.Top it off with teased hair and dark make-up and voila! (...what does "formal" mean...?)

Eduardo is diabetic. I'm not sure if it exactly counts as a headcanon since there was a very vague mention after him passing out and Kylie questioned whether or not he took his shot. So it's very vaguely but not really implied. 

I've had to do a lot of research about this, and damn it's really hard to learn about day-in-life management in the '90's. It was very different then versus now. In Eduardo's period of time, he doesn't have access to fast-acting insulin and it goes without saying that he doesn't have the luxury of continuous glucose monitors. 

That all means that he has to restrict his diet and continuously test manually to maintain his blood sugar in a safe range. I have this on his about page, but he does carry a fanny pack at all times when he's out of the house. His pack includes his glucose monitor and test strips, insulin, syringes, and emergency glucagon. 

It doesn't stop when he sleeps either. Due to managing his diabetes, working day and nights, and ADHD, he found that a polyphasic sleep schedule works best for him. Which is a very fancy way of saying he doesn't sleep though the night and instead takes 2 or more longer naps in a 24hr period.

This does put him at risk if he were to be scheduled on more intense ghostbusting business, and so it isn't common for him to be scheduled for them (unless the world is ending-- and how many times can that happen???). As much as he loves it, it's definitely more of an on-call basis.
