“i know, i know and i do appreciate it – it’s just…” trailing off when she struggles to conjure the words, shoulders lift, before she releases as much tension from them as she can. “i’m not used to it. i’m not used to people seeing through me, not like you seem to.”
cecilia listened to denise’s words and slightly nodded her head, “i get that. but maybe that’s a good thing, too. that i see you in this way.” cecilia had always been the kind of person to speak like that. honestly, openly, doing her best not to step on people’s toes if she did speak out like that. “i think it is, at least.”

“i mean… i’d call it a fair question all things considered,” brady told her, shrugging slightly. she had lost track of time and it was now night rather than day. he didn’t think it was a good thing that she had spent the entire day cooped up in a room, losing track of time. she’d likely have been in there for several more hours to come had he not stopped by. “well, most places are closing soon so options are pretty limited. movies are at your disposal all the time, so it just seems like the most logical solution,” brady pointed out, shrugging slightly. “yeah, you should get out of here. you’ve spent more than enough time in here today.”
she knew that brady just worried about her, and she found it a bit endearing if not also somewhat smothering sometimes. because she thought she was capable of keeping track of her time management skills, but obviously, as today was concerned, greyson lahey certainly was not good with time management. she just looked at him with a small smile and shrugged, “fine. maybe i need an alarm or something. one of those things that tells me i’m missing daylight hours.” she said it as a joke, but it probably wasn’t the worst idea for her. or maybe one of these days she’d just take her artwork outside and work. “so, ordering in and a movie it is.”

“good, i’m glad you do,” she told him, nodding slightly. the fact the believed her meant everything to giorgia. she wasn’t going anywhere, not permanently. she nodded in understanding, a sigh passing through her lips. “i know. sometimes things like this are just necessary, though.”
"do you know how long it will be? or is it still...up in the air?” he didn’t want to sound like he was nervous that she was going to be gone. because he wasn’t nervous about it. he was just slightly worried that she was going to be gone so long and forget about him. maybe that was just his insecurities speaking.

when beau had been forced to go and pick the girl up, he didn’t know who he was meeting at all. he just knew that she was the daughter of a family friend from the city and that she’d be staying for awhile. he wished he’d been given a more proper warning into who she was as a person, he would’ve thought to smoke a little bit of weed before picking her up if only to keep himself calm. he didn’t do well around people like herself, and a little bit of weed was always helpful. chose to bite his tongue as she opted to complain even more about how inconvenienced she was, only to prevent himself from saying hurtful words. what if she spoke to her parents or his about how he’d behaved? he’d never hear the end of it. “half an hour. the truck’s right over there,” he stated, gesturing to his vehicle. his truck was easily the most expensive thing he owned and something he took a lot of pride in.
finley wondered about her father’s friends in the country. she had never heard much about them anyway, but now she would be there for as long as it took? she didn’t know what to expect. certainly, it wasn’t what was in front of her. or wherever she was headed. that was for sure. “half an hour?” she practically sputtered out as she looked at him, turning her attention to glance back at the truck he gestured at. she was used to different modes of transportation depending on wherever she was. but this? well, it was certainly of the place she was now. she definitely wasn’t in the city any longer. she nodded her head, turning back around to grab her luggage. she hadn’t known what to expect. so she’d packed as modestly as she could. one simple large rolling suitcase and a sturdy duffle bag, as well as her favorite purse that could hold just about everything she needed in it. she grabbed her things and then turned back to him. “so this is it, right? we should, head out...” she was hesitant, because she was almost thinking that there was going to be something of a joke popping out and telling her to turn back around and head home. she knew she was likely wrong but she couldn’t help but hope for that either.

HE’S HONESTLY tried to go about this the nicest way he knew how. mostly, when he does breakup with someone, there’s a lot more… yelling. or angry texting. yes, he’s broken up with someone over text before. he thought it’d be nicer to be honest, albeit brutally so. yet it seemed that that wasn’t the way to go. he’s confused as to why she’s reacting the way she is, and it just… baffles him, if he’s being honest. “alright. noted. funny, everyone else says i should do it in person, but if i ever do date you again and break up with you again, i’ll do it over text. nice to know you’ve got a preference on how you want to be broken up with.”
poppy wondered what was going through axel’s head. how many times had he done this before? had he truly just expected her to be fine with all of this? because she was not okay with being broken up with. at least when there was absolutely no reason that she saw. “i don’t see a reason to do this again.” poppy said to his comment, shaking her head, “i think once was enough. it wasn’t even really all that worthwhile, axel.” sure, dating him was fine. but knowing that it was all going to lead to this moment again, she wouldn’t pick it a second time.

“well it just seems like we’re destined to make terrible plan after terrible plan, scout. like, i can’t think of a single good one anyone’s had yet. you do realize that i’m probably also the last person you should be asking for help. right? like… do you want me to completely fuck you over. i’m arguably the third worst planner in this family because nobody is worse than mom and dad. mocking you just comes naturally to me… i can’t help myself.”
"well, maybe it’s just in our dna, scott. and you know that i fucking hate that saying, but it just might be true because it feels like it could be with this family. i don’t think you’d fuck me over, you’re my brother. i just want your honest opinion, and a little help if i need it. that’s what i count on you for scott. i mean, mock me all you want, but i got your back despite it all. maybe that’s stupid of me. but you know what i mean.”

‘ you know how it is … how i am . i - i’m not good with relationships , not of any kind . i’ve only ever had myself to rely on , so the idea of you getting close to me … i thought i was doing you a favor pushing you away , not realizing i would be hurting too . ’
“well, maybe it’s something to think of then. for the next time, so this doesn’t happen. because no one likes being hurt. but i don’t know what to tell you, because it’s not easy to just push away the fact that you pushing me away hurt.”

❝ i don’t know, but i guess a little less defensive. i’m starting to get that sense; but i would hardly consider us strangers. don’t you remember, we went to the same middle school. but it’s cool, i hardly thought you noticed me. ❞
"middle school is forever ago, morgana. i mean, do you expect me to remember every single detail from back then? it’s not like i’ve got some photographic memory for all my life’s details. that would just make everything easier.”

“so what? everyone’s smart in their own ways, archer. i could say the same exact thing about being put in a kitchen. you’d easily breeze right past me, i’d probably mistake two ingredients that definitely aren’t interchangeable at all,” she told him, smiling slightly. she suspected he was actually putting himself down even if he was seemingly joking around, and phoebe didn’t like that. she nodded at his words, moving to take a step closer to him. “okay, yeah. that works for me. i like the sound of that. —— so … anything interesting on the agenda for today?”
"are you saying you’d mix up baking soda and baking powder? see, this is why i can’t let just anyone in the kitchen with me.” he teased softly. it was hard enough to trust his family when they offered to help him during family events. and he only did that because he was forced to. but that was one thing. “interesting? hmm, i was thinking if you’re up for it we could go to the moon, it might be a long trip, but considering the fact that you were just gone for a while, it’s just the right amount of time to spend together.” he said with a total serious look on his face, even if it was a joke. “unless you don’t think space travel is a good idea. then we can come up with something else.”

clearly, they were going to remain on opposing sides of this argument. oliver wasn’t so certain he was willing to listen to quinn’s stance, either. he’d mostly made up his mind to start with. in his mind, her points of argument were weak at best and he was confident he packed enough of a punch to get her ex to back down for good and possibly even apologize to quinn for his actions. “firstly, that’s a lie. there are a lot of people out there who deserve to get punched, quinn. maybe you’re too much of a pacifist to see that, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s true. secondly, he will stop when i’m through with him.” oliver sighed at her words, shaking his head slightly. “that’s sweet of you to worry, but i can handle a punch or two to the face if he lands any. i know what i’m doing.”
quinn knew that it was hard to convince oliver that her ex was a lost cause. but she didn’t want to see him getting hurt because of anything that she caused, especially given everything that had happened. she rolled her eyes at his comment and while she could concede that there were some people that could deserve to be punched, she didn’t think that her ex was one of those people. in her eyes, it wasn’t worth it. it would just make the situation worse. “you know what you’re doing? i think if you heard yourself you’d see that you, in fact, do not.” quinn said, her eyes darting around before landing on him. a worried glint in them as she stared at him. “i’m just worried about you, y’know? of all of this, you’re the one good thing. and i don’t want anything to happen to you.” or for him to regret sticking by her side through all of this. because, if she lost oliver too, she didn’t know what she would do.

SHE SUPPOSED it was fair, if you weren’t born into it, or if say, you hadn’t spent most of your life living this sort of life. but since she had spent most of her life living as an elite and a royal, she can’t say she related. but she was sympathetic… not that sierra would ever be caught dead admitting it out loud. “well, i suppose you might need to give people a chance. but that’s completely up to you,” she remarked with a shrug. she’s not judging him, and if she could tell the truth, she would. sierra was well aware of the listening ears, so she had to choose her words carefully. “it’s my family’s party, but not specifically my own party,” she smiled slightly. then her voice dropped to a whisper. “not a lot of good company here, i’m afraid. everyone’s far too busy trying to find dirt on each other, so best be careful with what you let slip.”
he knew that he was doing his best to fit into this lifestyle now. but it was difficult to manage all of it. he was just trying his best to get everything normal, but nothing felt remotely normal about this. he wasn’t used to having money, doing the things people with money did. and here he was, trying to adjust. “i can give people a chance, i think they need to have a more open mind though. a lot of the people i’ve met have had a lot to say about material things, and not a lot about actual substance.” benji shrugged his shoulders. maybe it was wrong to say something so open like that. especially at a party like this. but he didn’t seem to care right then. he nodded his head at her words. “believe me, i do my best. those magazines have already printed a lot about me, trying to find something to say to, uh...ruin my image?” he scratched the back of his neck as he chuckled with the thought. “i’m not into finding dirt on people. just trying to get to know them.”

❝ that sounds nice and all, but uh, if you want to take a step back, i think we should see other people. at least while we figure out if we’re still a thing. i don’t want to sit around and wait to see if we take that step forward again only for us to not. ❞
“oh... you think it’s best to see other people then?” emerson found herself hesitating. not the best when it came to hard conversations, ones that dealt with her own emotions. “if that’s what you want. i guess i can’t exactly stop that from happening. but i wasn’t exactly thinking in that sort of step back where we’d stop seeing each other, totally, either.”
