I am so grateful for my boring life! In the storms from hurricane Michael, we ended up with one tree coming down. It didn’t land on anything important or do any damage. Meanwhile, finishing out the grading for the first quarter of school, healing the second, failed cartilage piercing I suddenly needed at 44 (2 at once? What am I, 16?! I don’t heal that way anymore! Note to self: 44 is NOT the new 20!), writing next quarter’s plans, trying to find fun stuff to do in Middle School that makes kids want to come to class. Because middle school. *shudder*

I truly need to put this in my classroom. Love my middle schoolers, but it’s such a tough time in life for most of them. #teacherlife #lovemylife

Laughing at yourself is a gift. It deflates your enemy, removes their ammunition.

I am 4’10”, and this is one of my taller minis - closer to pony-sized, really - Glory, born 4 July 2015. Love my babies! (And that’s my leg - I’m looking straight down at her...)

Geeked out with a middle school student when she realized the sample student name when signing into an online quiz program is always some geekery - Dr. Who characters most often. We were giddy and everyone thought we were nuts. Fun stuff! #DrWho #geekery #geekedout #teachermoments #ilovemylife

#teacher #teacherstruggles So is it weird that my students know most of my pets’ names? And can describe their personalities? I admit, Big Mack and French Fry, Buttons, Bella Squirrel, and now Niki the Woolly Worm (pictured here) feature in many sample sentences and oral illustrations in my English classes.
And probably Mr. Pickles, Bubbles, Bobo, etc, etc.... Today is grading and planning day. Yuck. Much rather be doing than planning to do. Thus tumblr. Sigh. Back to it.

True story: guys online are actually complaining that Captain Marvel doesn’t smile in the trailer.

Niki is our latest rescue/foster fail. She used her wiles to con my husband into bringing her home from the vet’s office. He didn’t consult with me first, an intentional action on his part. I attempt to be practical. He doesn’t prefer practicality when cuteness is on the line. So here we are. Again.

Retirement.
I just received a spam mail about retirement, something that isn’t even in my Telescope to the Future Lens. Not the officially recognized age of retirement in the US, nor my ability or desire to stop working. They keep sending me this crap. The Universe of Negativity needs to lay off its mind games. I’m onto you, Killer of Dreams. Now go sulk in your corner.

I have nothing to add. Perfection.
today i found out that when monarch butterflies migrate south for the winter, all the ones that go across the middle of lake superior suddenly stop going south and go west for five miles and then continue south. which really freaked scientists out cos like What is in the Middle of Lake Superior what do Butterflies know that We Dont Is This The End Times etc. anyway turns out about a hundred million years ago there was a mountain there and the butterflies still think they gotta fly around it. classic butterflies

This is a miracle we named Angel. She hates all cats and loves all other animals. Except the new puppy, Daisy, because Daisy still speaks VERY LOUDLY, SHOUTING ALL THE TIME AND CHASING HER NEW FRIENDS TO GET THEM TO LISTEN. None of the cats appreciate Daisy’s efforts.

Next time I want a student to take responsibility for their actions, I want to say this. To be fair, I should also add it to an office referral. If I ever decide to use one again...
KING LEAR, ACT I, SCENE 2
EDMUND:
This is the excellent foppery of the world, that when we are sick in fortune, often the surfeit of our own behaviour, we make guilty of our disasters the sun, the moon, and the stars; as if we were villains on necessity; fools by heavenly compulsion; knaves, thieves, and treachers by spherical pre-dominance; drunkards, liars, and adulterers by an enforc’d obedience of planetary influence; and all that we are evil in, by a diving thrusting on. An admirable evasion of whore-master man, to lay his goatish disposition to the charge of a star!
