I spent part of my Sunday photographing a pretty sweet University of Michigan Formula SAE electric race car built by our engineering students.
The MRacing Formula SAE student team at the University of Michigan tested its 2025 electric race car in a North Campus parking lot as they prepared for an upcoming competition in June. The new vehicle, MR25, features a custom-built carbon fiber chassis, a 600-volt battery pack, and an all-wheel-drive motor system.
Founded in 1986, MRacing is Michigan’s Formula SAE team, backed by over three decades of engineering and design experience. The team continues to push the boundaries of innovation in vehicle design. Coming off a strong performance at Formula SAE Michigan—with a 3rd place finish in design and a win in the Garrett Powertrain Innovation Award—MRacing is more determined than ever to build a highly competitive car for the 2025 season.

Sinking City
Jakarta, Indonesia has a serious problem with flooding.
The city is literally sinking while also experiencing climate change related sea-level rise. Add to that the yearly heavy rainfall the city sees from the Southeast Asian monsoon and a population that has swelled beyond ten million due to rapid urbanization, and it’s easy to see why Jakarta’s infrastructure is experiencing significant strain.
Jakarta isn’t an isolated example of this perfect storm. It represents the future difficulty that coastal cities all over the world are likely to face.

Ronildo Alves da Silva jokingly splashes river water over his guest Wagner Magalhaes who arrived by boat to check on Ronildo and his family in the village Barra do São Lourenço in Pantanal, Brazil. The village has been flooded for four months already with water inside houses and most residents either gone to the city or living in makeshift shelters on higher grounds. Pantanal is the largest wetland in the world, a sensitive ecosystem that depends on annual flooding and minimal human activity to survive.

After a long day in daycare, homesick friends from a toddler group at from the Peach Tree Montessori International - Tula, Myrna, Gabnella and Caitlyn (left to right) wait for their parents to arrive to pick them up from the daycare. Rising number of American families need to rely on income from both parents to make ends and meet and children often spend eight and more hours in daycare a day.

Flying Eagles, a team of former members of the now-disbanded Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity hosted their 82nd annual Mud Bowl game on Saturday morning just before the homecoming game between the University of Michigan and Northwestern University. University of Michigan has unsuccessfully tried to cancel the event this year and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon national fraternity suspended the Ann Arbor members for “health-and-safety violations and the failure of members to uphold … policies and procedures.”. Determined to uphold tradition, the local members organized the Mud Bowl independently.  They faced an unassociated team made up of a variety of University of Michigan students.  Flying Eagles won 24 to 10. The Mud Bowl has raised around $110,000 for Mott Children’s Hospital in the last six years alone. The Mud Bowl has been played in conjunction with Homecoming since 1933 in a round depression filed with water and mud in front of the now former house of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity in Ann Arbor, MI.  Saturday, October., 10th, 2015.
