What Is Novena?
“Novena” is derived from the Latin word “novem” which means nine. Novena refers to the nine days of prayer. It is a set of prayers sprayed for nine hours, days, weeks, or even months. People pray a novena to ask God for special prayer requests. This prayer=prayer-to-saint is used to ask specific saints to pray for us. Novenas are a beautiful way to grow consistent and persistent in daily prayer. You can pray a novena in many different ways but you have to pray nine times, you have to repeat the same prayer nine times. Many of the more popular novenas begin or coincide with certain days such as feast days or church holidays.
What Are The Different Types Of Prayer For Specific Intentions?
You can pray different novenas and each focuses on a different request. Novena has a different set of prayers that help you focus on your intentions. There are four general types of novenas:
The first one is anticipation. This is a mourning novena which is prayed for a deceased person, before or after a funeral. It is prayed in the hope that the soul of the person who passed away will reach heaven.
Another one is preparation novenas. It is prayed for an important day or special occasion like receiving a sacrament. For instance, some couples might pray novena before their wedding day.
The third type is novenas in the petition. In this novena ask God for something like courage, grace, or hope. You have to first identify your intention for prayer and select a saint.
The last type of novena is Penance. This prayer=novena are prayed as an act of penitence or ask for forgiveness for wrongdoing after going to a Confession.
