Introduction
The rise of the internet age has single handedly revolutionized the way individuals communicate with others on a daily basis. First we were given the opportunity to send and receive emails. Soon after, social media platforms such as Myspace started to emerge where you could manage profile pages based on personal interests. Today, we can effortlessly connect with friends from all over the world by the push of a button. None of these achievements would have ever been made possible, had it not been for the young nineteen-year-old Harvard genius, Mark Zuckerberg. According to the book Mark Zuckerberg: The Face Behind Facebook and Social Media, he was raised in upper-middle-class Dobbs Ferry. Mark started to take an interest in computer programming when he was only in the sixth grade. Fast forward ten years and Zuckerberg went on to attended Harvard University, where he and a few of his college roommates designed and implemented one of the largest social media companies in the world today, known as Facebook. Now at just 32 years old, Mark is one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world with a net worth of 56.8 billion dollars.

#10 of the Top 10 Most Powerful People
According to the Forbes Magazine top ten most powerful people, Zuckerberg falls at number 10. Regardless of his power and substantial amount of money, he has come a long way to get where he is today. Back in 2004 when Facebook first launched, Zuckerberg was accused of stealing the idea from three students he had come into contact with at Harvard University. In the book Mark Zuckerberg: The Face Behind Facebook and Social Media, written by Daniel Alef, he writes “twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss and Divya Narendra, after reading the November 3 article in the school paper, approached Mark to work on a venture they had started a year earlier called Harvard Connection, a dating and connecting site” (Alef, 2010, p. 30). Soon after helping the Winklevoss twins, Zuckerberg finished “thefacebook.com” causing the Winklevoss twins to sue Mark for stealing their idea.

Regardless of the countless lawsuits, Zuckerberg and his company are still able to hold their composure as they continuously manage to amaze individuals with their remarkable capabilities. According to a recent study conducted by Greene (2010), researchers claim that “Facebook is serving as a bottom line communication medium that is connecting students, professionals, academics, employers and other like-minded stakeholders who keep track of one another’s activities, events, accomplishments and updates”. The success story of Mark Zuckerberg is very popular in our now technologically advanced society because he created a platform for individuals to connect and maintain new and old relationships online. In addition, the creation of this website has also helped advanced many fortune 500 companies through the process of networking and advertising with Facebook. Some of the recent improvements Facebook has made over the past year includes the infamous “Facebook live” where you can do live video streaming from your profile account. I have personally seen many businesses such as radio broadcasters use Facebook live in order to gain listeners on their stations as well as create fun ways to implement ticket giveaways. In addition, in 2010, the movie The Social Network was made to tell the story of Mark Zuckerberg and his founding years of Facebook. This movie was a huge success, however, Zuckerberg’s character was snide and sarcastic throughout the film which proved to be a fictional personality according to Zuckerberg himself.

Family
Zuckerberg is known for being a shy and not so outgoing person, however, he still managed to find the love of his life Priscilla Chan. They first met at a fraternity party during their sophomore year at Harvard and in 2012, they married. It wasn’t until 2015, that Priscilla gave birth to their first child, Maxima. What I personally enjoy about this couple and their accomplishments over the years, is their drive for giving back to the community and participating in various charity programs. According to an article written by Ryan Singel from Wired Magazine, after the birth of their first child Maxima, they both pledged to donate 99% of their Facebook shares to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which was their new organization that focuses on the health and education of people all over the world.

Conclusion
It is safe to say that Mark Zuckerberg is the Bill Gates of our generation. Social media has only escalated since the rise of Facebook in 2004 including sites such as: Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. However, when looking back on making my first Facebook account, I was thrilled to come into contact with my relatives that lived out of state. I can still keep up with them today and wish them happy birthday on their walls which makes me feel closer to them than I actually am. The overall significance of the invention of Facebook is now a cultural, economic, and social phenomenon that our society is involved with almost every day. From breaking news to helping others find criminals, this website can pretty much do it all. This website has brought the entire world into an online community where we can share, create, and advance our own skills and knowledge through others.
