Refelection on FMP Project
I’ve really enjoyed creating my final film this year and feel really proud of what I’ve achieved and how I’ve progressed as an animator and director. This film is by far the biggest project I’ve ever taken on and it’s been a labour of love - I’ve wanted to create a print-made animation for years and despite some hiccups along the way It’s been an extremely rewarding and passionate experience. I’ve found the advice I’ve been given throughout the academic year extremely valuable and this project couldn’t be what it is without the amazing feedback and suggestions from tutors, classmates and friends, I definitely feel like my ability to reflect on feedback has greatly improved and throughout this film I’ve been able to take on helpful advice but not feel the need to do so with advice that conflicts my personal vision as the director. In particular I’ve found the feedback I’ve received from Sam and Steve to be invaluable.
The experience of working with such large team of people has been amazing - especially getting to work with my brilliant composer Lukasz who has produced an amazing soundtrack that has really elevated the film. Working with the second years through grad-assist has been amazing, with their work being great and really helping speed up the printmaking and animation processes of production.
I initially slightly under estimated how much work fully printing the film would be and this was increased by a few shots being added based on feedback I received. These shot greatly improved the film and we’re definitely with the effort but this did mean my workload got extremely high towards the end of production. In future if I decide to tackle print made animation again I would be sure to leave much more time for the printing process - I’m very proud of myself for managing to get the film fully printed on time but have experienced some burnout towards the end of the project and would want to try to combat this in future by allowing much more time for these processes.
Overall I’m very happy with the final result and plan to continue with some minor post-production edits as well as printing the remaining credits once they are finalised. This year has been really brilliant for me and I’ve rediscover my love for animation, printmaking and education, I’ve been so honoured to have the support of the amazing tutors here and I’m exited to continue animating and creating films moving forwards.
