DND NEXT WEEK DND NEXT WEEK UWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (well. hopefully. depending on if we can find a place for it but whatever)

in... prep? i guess? i drew my pookie alruna in her human disguise!! she doesnt wanna be found by the royal guard (or really anybody for that matter) so she's doing the COMPLETELY RESPONSIBLE THING. OF SPAM CASTING DISGUISE SELF.

but I also changed out her bard costume (a leotard and thigh high boots) out for this when we came to the city, not only so she doesnt stand out as much, but because i was kinda uncomfortable with the old design...

BUT THATS BESIDES THE POINT!!!

but then i kinda ended up thinking about how there's been 6-ish months between when alruna left and the current day of the campaign. and obviously fashion is FAR from static. so i ended up using this artwork as an excuse to take a look at Larnwick's fashion trends!

...im gonna yap under the cut....

(yes theres an alternate tiefling version im nothing if not thorough.)

so to give a VERY BREIF TIMELINE OF EVENTS:

aldous gets toasted

alruna leaves larnwick and ends up in Farnfoss

alruna becomes a bard

aldous wakes up from his toast-coma (just roll with it)

aldous is on his wizard shit

alruna becomes an adventurer with a group of absolute weirdoes and about 6 days after meeting these guys, ends up in Larnwick.

(funnily enough thats six points and theres 6 months inbetween alruna leaving. IS IT EXACTLY TIED TO THE MONTH??? NO OF COURSE NOT BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY TO POINT OUT.)

anyways, for some references i was given for Larnwick's fashion- Lord DM said "the city is based on Arcane"

cool. epic and awesome. i like piltover and Zaun. I'm a fan of the league lore. I can roll with that! so I extrapolated that to the inspo given by rito for piltover and zaun pre-arcane (because thats my favourite version of the lore.) and found that there's a decent amount of edwardian influence. So I took that to mean more slim silhouettes, much unlike the victorian era's whole deal

Aldous came first (duh his art is a few months old now) and not only combines the more slim silhouette, but also takes from piltover in GENERAL, while also throwing in some more modern alternative elements, like the black and red colour scheme, glove-like sleeve things (i dont know fashion terms lmao), and just the whole vibe. but the majority of the cut is to cover up as much of his burns as possible.

is that the standard throughout the city? probably not! Aldous did always lean into the territory of 'goth' so I imagine that to be still true. just VERY toned down.

....bro got gentrified...

but the general idea is that modern clothing is more slim, with higher boots, bishop sleeves, side closures, and more details.

well. probably not for commoners. but MNYEHHHHHHHHH YOU GET THE POINT.

as for the older version, thats whats being worn by alruna!

obviously they arent hers. if she were in her own clothes she'd likely be in an edwardian-style dress. (im actually pretty sure i have a sketch of alruna in an 'older' dress somewhere in my sketchbook actually BUT IM FOCUSING ON THE DIGITALS FOR NOW)

clothing was a liiiittle bit wider? not too much larger, bc thats an unrealistic jump for 6 months of social events in a quasi-medieval setting.

the boots are smaller with single-colour leather, and the heels on boots have caps that cover the entire back (unlike the current latticework inspired ones that arent visible because im very silly and didnt draw aldous in a fullbody shot.) shirts tend to have high collars still, but have a chain (usually denoting a noble house or devotion to a god, etc etc) connecting the two, and also have wide sleeves (aldous just likes ruffles because hes cool like that)

jackets had centre closures and looked like normal blazers, yadda yadda yadda i think the idea is there now.

I'm inclined to say that the change in fashion was gradually happening, but was sped up DRASTICALLY by Aldous popularising the look once he was on his wizard shit. like he's been gone for 4 months and finally appears again- of course thats gonna account for something in the fictitious cutural zeitgeist i've cooked up in the span of like 2-3 days.

but uhhhh yeah! thats about it for my rambling to do with FASHION FOR 2 CHARACTERS IN MY DND CAMPAIGN-

I hate the concept of the Kuei-jin so much. The most charitable reason for their inclusion in WoD is that the creators felt bad for rooting the origin of their vampires in Christian mythology despite there being undead bloodsuckers in mythology all around the world. Less charitable but more accurate to their execution is that the creators wanted to create a group of homogenous east asian vampires that they could exoticize and write racist shit about (like "The Great Leap Outward," an initiative by the Kuei-jin leadership to kill European vampires and take over their territories in the US, Australia, Britain, etc., by sending scores of Kuei-jin overseas to these cities to carve out territory for themselves, which I hope I don't have to explain how fucked this is to write). What it ends up reading as regardless was the inability of the creators to commit to the parasitic nature of vampires and how that could have directly tied in to the history of Europe, how it parasitized off the rest of the world, spread disease to communities that couldn't fight it off, killed and kidnapped millions, forcefully converted people to Christianity and in the process tried to or succeeded in destroying other cultures and religions, and impressed a cultural imperialism so strong that western imperial core politics are seen as superseding all else in importance, all of which is mirrored in European vampire societies, from the Camarilla to the Sabbat to the Anarchs.

The presence of vampires in Asia could have really said something about Western imperialism, about the dead it made in the region, about the parasites and the people they leeched from. Asian vampires are born from a different sort of violence, violence from islamophobia of the crusades, the blood spilt across the Silk Road, colonialism of the 17th century; there are so many points of entry for this idea.

But actually no, we got the fucking "those dirty chinese and their communisms are so scary and also direct attacks against America." Incredible.

soooooooo i did a sketch of crux a week or so ago and i liked it so much i decided to make it a digital! its based around the idea i had where her holy dagger is broken killing this one guy with one HELL OF AN ATTACK-

tho i do think its funny that this character is the same character that has a bunny plushie and has a padded cloak that she uses as a blanket. she looks like a horror character but shes really just a certified little guy and i love her

As much as this is sounding like an Orwellian dictatorship, I think it’s somehow closer to a huxleyan one— from what Ive seen, Australians are already relatively apathetic in terms of politics, if one removes information (the social media ban) and pushes consumerism (capitalism in general), we’re just gonna end up in a sea of squat grey buildings and soma.

This is ash! Amaranth’s BOOOOOYYYYFRIENDDDDDD~! He’s a nosferatu from Melbourne and he lives in an RV and he’s just honestly a whole vibe.

(But matcha he doesn’t look super nos-like! He’s like, generation 14 or summat and I believe the curses dilute with the blood)

Hes a pretty chill guy and he’s VERY good at getting information.

A bit too good at getting info. Ya see, he came up from Melbourne to give amaranth the embrace, blah blah some other stuff happened, and he was asked by prince Sarrasine to make sure clan Tremere was running in line.

…luci’s in charge. They’re not.

So Lucien found out and had one of his demons take control of the body. Still going about ash’s life! Just… buddy-buddy with luci.

Anyways that’s the last of the VTM art for now!!! I’m gonna go back to drawing tiefs and elves for a bit

this is Magister Amaranth! she's the first vtm character i ever made and gets the place of Magister because if i cant play im at least having an important pookie.

her sire is Regent Lucien, and she specialises in making poisons. tbh i think if she could she'd learn thinblood alchemy. she spends most of her time just reading random stuff she finds in the chantry though. shes pretty cool idk

her sire isnt Lucien. It ws the past regent- Victor Heigaari, who stole the embrace from her lover Ash while amaranth died of cancer. shes actually blood bound to luci.

as for what happened to heigaari? well. Amaranth diablerised him. she went in and out of hunger frenzy and torpor when she was first embraced (heigaari didnt want her) and managed to get her fangs into the regent's neck as her first true meal. she does mainly subsist off of diablerie now though, but that isnt so much because of a preference but because if she tries to have anything else, her body rejects it.
