I think my boyfriend was a forest in a past life. His hair is brown like big pine trees, his skin is soft like the fur of a baby bear. When he laughs the breeze picks up, I think the breeze thinks he’s funny too. He is the earth that I hike upon, the earth I rest on at the lake. The sand I pick up and slowly funnel out of my hand. His face is like a fox, sharp and wild, untamed.

I think he’s still a forest, in a way.
