It is disappointing but also deeply unsurprising that sotr has already been completely misunderstood.

“all the cameos are fan service!” or perhaps, just a thought, that Suzanne Collins understands how revolutions actually work in real life vs tumblr activism and recognizes that when it comes to executing a very dangerous, multi-layered takedown of systematic oppression, that you can’t just do it on a whim and a chance. it happens over years with many of the same people that live to fight another day. perhaps!!!!! Suzanne understands in a way that the average tumblr user cannot that revolution isn’t built around a chosen one but around the right one the right time with the right window of opportunity— MEANING there have been many, many, MANY attempts before that window

“the characterization is all wrong” well sure yeah, the characters in a prequel novel are going to act very differently than they do 20ish odd years later before the horror and trauma they’ve endured by the time Katniss meets them AND!!!! just a thought!!!! are the characters we see actually acting differently than they do in canon or are they just different compared to the blorbo brain rot of having consumed so much fanfic in the last ten years that everyone’s seemed to have forgotten the canonical lens of these characters.

“it’s a bad story!” is it truly a bad story or do the actual, canonical elements that were put into place just conflict with the headcanons, OCs, and speculation posts and fics you’ve been reading for decades.

no media is without fault nor is anything— even the thg universe— above being critiqued. but perhaps!!!!!! it has become increasingly frustrating time and time and TIME again to see how much critique in fandom falls less into meaningful criticism vs. angry their blorbos aren’t acting like they think they should.

that line hits so hard when you realize how quickly he was calling katniss sweetheart. through katniss’ eyes, it seemed insincere at first, almost like haymitch was mocking her. but now we truly know haymitch wouldn’t just throw that around. he truly cared for her from the start.

a little bit the biggest difference between haymitch and katniss and peeta is that haymitch never for a second doubted the fact that he was loved

The reveal of how Effie got involved with Haymitch, and by extension, District Twelve, is actually so funny. Like this poor woman helped her baby sister with her schoolwork ONE TIME and it spiraled into Effie literally getting accused of helping to start a revolution that eventually killed the president.

Suzanne really went for the emotional damage of parallels with Katniss giving Haymitch the geese. Because she knows his pain of losing the one you love, she gave him his own equivalent of her pearl that gave her comfort when she thought Peeta was gone.
