After I came out of Slumdog [Millionaire] I went on and did a film that was not well received at all. The budget of Slumdog was like the budget of the craft services of this movie and I completely felt overwhelmed by the experience. I felt like I wasn’t being heard, and you know that idea of artistry or feeling connected to the character or the material, that was really scary for me, and that’s really when I learned the power of “No”. The idea of saying “No”. ‘Cause I was eighteen or something and I was just like, “Okay, I get it”. There’s millions of adults telling you what to do, what to do, “You should do this, it’s great”.

ok so devs nom just hit me and this is going to be typing w run on sentences but here goes. i think dev isnt going to win that oscar because #oscarssowhite. but i am so proud of him and i hope he knows that the asian community is proud too. dev and i dont share the same ethnic background but we are both asian and i was overjoyed when he received his nom so i cant imagine how others who are indian are feeling to know that he is the 3rd indian actor to be nominated for an oscar and i think the first to not be nominated in a foreign film category. ive watched dev since his skins days and i dont think people really cared about him until slumdog millionaire came along. i know that people really enjoyed the movie and he did a few other movies and a tv show after that but his popularity kind of fizzled until he came back with lion. to see that there is another asian actor in the hollywood film industry, its just a great sight to see.
im so thrilled to see that there are many poc in hollywood and more poc receiving oscar nominations but there are very few asians in hollywood (or at least that i know of). so for emma stone to take her role in “aloha”, it hurt me. when tilda swinton asked margaret cho why her taking the doctor who role was so controversial, i was so confused. a chinese, native hawaiian actress could have had her big break and played allison ng but instead she had to look for a job elsewhere (and it was probably to play a stereotypical role). a tibetan actor could have done press with blender cucumber but hes probably waiting for a callback. did you know that white actresses have won more oscars for playing an asian than an actual asian actress has?
some of the most notable asian actors/actresses this year like aziz ansari (master of none, parks and rec), priyanka chopra (quantico), donnie yen (ip man [honestly a gr8/8 film go watch], rogue one), constance wu (fresh off the boat), mindy kaling (the mindy kaling project), dwayne johnson (moana, fast and furious franchise), riz ahmed (rogue one, nightcrawler), john cho (star trek), kelly marie tran (viet-american who will be in star wars 2017!!!!!!!), and dev are here trying to open doors for the rest of us, it really makes me want to cry.
so this is why im so proud of him. im proud of him for playing the stereotypical roles just to try and get jobs 👏👏 im proud of him developing his craft 👏👏👏 im proud of him for getting all the noms 👏👏👏👏 im just so proud 👏👏💖👏👏

To be totally honest, the news hasn’t made it’s way into my brain yet, but I’m looking at these beautiful smiling faces around me… Faces of the ones I love. And I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude. What makes this moment so much more poignant is that I’m in India right now. This enthralling country holds such a deep place in my heart, and it is where Saroo’s journey was born.
— Congratulations to Dev Patel, the 3rd ever Indian actor nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in Lion!

“You said once to me that I might be a different man if I’d met you sooner. Well, I am. You changed me. That’s why I’m not the guy in this film.”
“I don’t believe the film. I don’t believe it. I believe you.”

get to know me meme [1/5] female characters: Sloan Sabbith (The Newsroom)
‘Cause you wouldn’t make it in jail, Don. I’d survive, but you wouldn’t. In fact, I’d thrive. How do you figure? Shawshank. I’d do everybody’s taxes and invest the warden’s money. What are you gonna do? Produce their nightly news show?

Martini. Gin, not vodka, obviously. Stirred for 10 seconds while glancing at an unopened bottle of vermouth. Thank you.

Sometimes it blows my mind that there are people that don’t wear glasses/contacts. Like they can literally see with no aid. Like they wake up and just be out here seeing. What a wild concept.
