BMW have revealed their upcoming 8 series convertible, as the first in a trio set to revamp the 8 series line-up, soon to be followed by a reveal of the  Series Coupé and the 4-door 8 Series Gran Coupé, both of which will be unveiled next year.

At launch the new 8 series will come with a choice of either a 3.0 ltr 6-cylinder diesel engine capable of 316 bhp; or, a 4.4 ltr turbocharged v8 petrol capable of an impressive 523 bhp. Both are limited to 155 mph, but with the latter being able to reach a 0-62 in 3.9 seconds.

This addition to the 8 series is no game changer. Like all BMWs you really know what you’re getting: A piece of fantastic German engineering, excellent quality, twin grills and always incredible value (that’s not to say it’s cheap). But they’re always predictable too, but maybe that’s what we love about them, and why BMW are still going strong.  Understated almost to a fault, we can’t imagine anyone hanging up a poster of this machine, but it is a viable alternative to the Bentley Continental GT or S-Class Cabriolet, and for considerably less. Although, if you were shopping in the price bracket is this what you would pick?

The 8 series will be for sale from December 2018 for deliveries in March 2019. Prices start from £83,270 for the diesel, and £107,045 for the V8. An M8 edition is set to follow next year.
