I think its really funny getting suggested Byler posts, a fandom I only occasionally consider myself apart of, and they're all focusing on if the ship will be canon or not while I'm just having the time of my life with my rpf guys who flirt on the regular just because. i wish people would understand that finn isn't lying when he says mike's clueless. he explains specifically what he means by that. he said his depression cuts him off from seeing whats in front of him. i used to believe mike was 100% certain of his feelings for will, but now i came to understand what finn himself is saying about mike, and that we should probably actually listen. and even outside of what finn said, it's clear mike isn't doing well at all mentally throughout s4. what finn is saying still adds up. i really don't think romance is on mike's radar as much as people think, and that doesn't make him stupid. it just means, surprise, he actually has a character outside of ships. depression can block out so many things. he's going through it and finn is trying to tell you that!!

obsessed with hawkins' high's perception of that nerd lucas who turns out to actually be really good at basketball!! and he's so cool but he's like madly in love with the new girl (she's been here a year but in a town like hawkins you're always "new") and they were a thing but now they're kinda on again off again and no matter how many popular girls the team tries to set him up with, he'll always shyly wave to her in the halls. sometimes she'll wave back but most times she ducks into her classroom with her headphones on. and for some reason he still plays dnd with that group of freaks and will be seen in the halls with the freshman boy who was cast as the lead in the spring musical simply for showing up (but this time he's actually good) as they drag around that one mopey kid who curses out teachers and whose family was rumored to have been hiding a 12 year old russian spy that the middle school bully says has superpowers. and all 4 of them were some of the few survivors of the starcourt mall fire last summer and their best friend who moved away went missing in 1983 and they found his body but it turns out it wasnt his body and he showed up a couple days later and now suddenly they all jump when the lights flicker.

“what if they don’t like the truth” and the camera lingering on mike’s expression is such a gutwrenching part of that scene tbh. because like. thinking about mike and his queerness. and friends don’t lie is such an easy and clear cut mantra when you’re all kids but now you haven’t felt like a kid for a long time and you’ve gotten real good at lying or at least real consistent and you’re in shoulders-deep anyway. what if you’re finally unearthing who you are and you just have to sit there with all that incriminating dirt under your nails waiting to bury the piece of yourself that finally makes sense to you again because you know it’s never this simple. what if they don’t like the truth. what if it’s glaring and pours out of you and what if you’ve never been more alive and what if it’s nothing like you imagined and what if you can’t picture it any other way after seeing it but you know better. you know you have to hide this somehow, even if it feels warm and solid and right. you don’t know for sure just as much as you know you can’t risk it because what if they don’t like the truth. there’d be nothing you could do if people you’re closest to could never look you in the eye again for it. isn’t it safer? isn’t it safer to try to let it rot?

as much as jonathan is obviously underrated, in some weird universe where he knows there's a show about his life he'd definitely like the fact he's considered niche
