MayBeeQueen is officially over. Thank you SO MUCH to everyone who participated. It was really wonderful to see so much positive Chloé being generated.

Queen Bee dropped down silently onto Marinette’s balcony and looked around. There was a stack of pink bakery boxes on the table alongside a pile of blankets and Marinette’s laptop, but no sign of the girl in question. Queen Bee walked over to the window and peered inside, unsurprised to see Marinette sitting on her bed. She rapped sharply on the glass, making Marinette jump.

“Uh, hello, we’re gonna be late,” Queen Bee said.

“We’re already late,” Marinette replied, putting her phone away.

“We’re fashionably late,” Queen Bee corrected her. “And now we’re verging into actually late, so get a move on.”

“I’ve been sitting here waiting for you!” Marinette said, standing up. She quickly transformed and then hopped up to join Queen Bee on the balcony.

Any thought that Chloé might have had of finally earning her mother’s affection was dashed when Audrey Bourgeois got off the plan with another daughter.

The revelation of Zoé Lee was shocking enough to still Chloé’s tongue long after it normally would have. She trailed along silently behind her father, mother, and – apparently – her half-sister, staring silently and resentfully at Zoé’s back. Because while it was obvious that Zoé was nothing like Audrey, it was equally obvious that Audrey actually thought something of Zoé.

She even remembered Zoé’s name.

The morning of Chloé’s birthday dawned grey and dreary and drizzly, which was perfectly on par with Chloé’s mood. She watched the rain through her balcony doors for a little while, sitting on the edge of her bed. Last year she had gone through the effort of planning a party for herself. This year, she hadn’t bothered. No one would care, or even remember, aside from a couple of people. So what was the point?

“Happy birthday to me,” she muttered under her breath, getting up. She got dressed in her favorite outfit, but even the warm yellow of her cardigan failed to cheer her up. She sighed and grabbed her backpack, walking over to the door just as there was a knock.

“Happy Birthday, Mademoiselle,” Butler Jean said as she opened up the door. He gave her a kind smile, to which Chloé mustered up a smile in return.

“Thanks.”
