the thought of frank asking garcia to keep an eye on mel while he’s gone oh i need to sit down

imagine season two where mel and frank are attached at the hip, working every case together, and they really don’t care if it’s a one person job they will make it a two person job. they’ve been apart for 10 months, sue them.

until later in the day, they’re both working on a case where the patient doesn’t make it. possibly a younger sister, or siblings, but either way it hits mel hard. and frank can see it. her shaking hands, squeezing together tightly. her glossed over eyes, slowly dissociating.

before frank can even say anything, she’s walking out of the room. frank doesn’t hesitate to follow after her, but he gets stopped at the central desk by a med student who wanted a second opinion. when he finally looks back up, he can’t find her, but sets off in the direction he last saw her going towards. finally he finds her in an empty patient room. her arms are wrapped tightly around her self, and she’s probably pacing a hole in the floor.

“mel”, frank says oh so quietly. she turns to look at him, her pacing halted. he steps towards her, and slowly places his hand gently to her upper arm, unsure if this is how she wants to be comforted. but all hesitation leaves his body as mel leans into his touch. he instantly wraps his arms around her shoulders, mel practically falling into him. frank rests his chin on the top of her head, and holds her as tight as he can. he tilts his head to place a kiss so soft to the top of her head, and mel would have missed it if it wasn’t so silent in the room. “you’re okay, you’re okay”, frank says. whether it’s to reassure her, or him, he doesn’t know, but either way he says it over and over. he holds her until he can hear her breathing even back out, and only lets go when he feels mel pull away slowly. he meets her eyes, and nods, as if it was a question of “are you okay? ready to get back?” and as if she can read his mind, she nods back, a small smile on her lips.

and then they go back to work as if that didn’t just reshape their entire relationship.

in greys anatomy, there’s a scene where owen is having a panic attack about his ex fiancé being there, and cristina is there to calm him down. and the next we see of them is meredith walking into an on call room, where owen is laying on top of cristina, sleeping, while cristina is reading medical journals.

in the pitt, season 2, we know it takes place over fourth of july, cue fireworks, cue the possibility of jack abbot having a panic attack from ptsd. of course we don’t know where samira and jack will stand at this point, but i think a scene really similar to the greys anatomy one would be kind of perfect.

and in season 2 when dana refers to mel as ER barbie in the presence of langdon and he’s like “wait who?” and dana just says “mel” and then answers the phone and langdon is just stuck in place jaw dropped staring

when mel finished the baby delivery, she probably walked around the entire ED looking for frank, since we know she wanted to tell him about it. and when she doesn’t find him, she then probably walked around contemplating who would be the best person to ask if they knew where he was. and even as she approached trinity to ask her, you can see the hesitation on her face.

imagine season 2 where there’s a tough case where they lost a guy from a drug overdose, and frank is kind of just frozen in place. and mel would calmly say his name, snapping him out of it, followed by him running out of the room.

minutes later, mel finds frank on the break room floor, and she goes to sit down next to him, paralleling themselves from 10 months prior. after a moment, mel says “are you okay?” frank responds honestly, saying “how am i supposed to work in an ED if i’m just gonna panic every-time someone comes in with a drug related problem?” a moment of silence, then mel says “someone once told me that we need more sensitive people here.” and frank turns his head to look at mel, her eyes already on him. then mel says, “i need you.” and after a few seconds of eye contact, mel makes a joke about his reputation, franks face falling, because he thinks she’s serious. then she looks down, trying to fight a smile, and says “joking”. frank laughs, then knocks his knee into hers. she returns the gesture, but leaves her leg pressed against his.
