One thing I've wanted to do for a while is pursue formal classes in goldwork and silk embroidery. It's one of the things I'll finally be doing over the next coming months, with the end goal of working toward certification in it.
That said, I wanted to make a sampler before I started so I could compare my future work to, something to track my improvement. So while I wait to start the class up, I made some small technique samples. It really helps to see what things I'm decent at and what I definitely need improvement in :)

it's genuinely bullshit that you should be required to own a mobile phone for participation in literally any aspect of life

best advice i ever got as a writer was to pick a hobby that i hated more than writing and stick with it. i’m a runner now and it’s miserable and i Hate It and writing is so lovely in comparison. bonus: i’m in excellent shape and running gives you a lot of time to think about writing. i’ve solved a lot of plot complications while running.
This is such funny advice. Writing is so excruciating, you gotta take up Self Torture so that writing feels like a fun little break 😭

Writing Notes: Scenes
A great scene generally strives to achieve at least 1 of 5 objectives:
Advance the plot
Create or show conflict
Develop a character
Establish or build upon the setting
Lay the groundwork for later events
Each scene should have at least 1 of the above checked, but the first two are probably the most important.
If there aren’t enough scenes that push the plot forward, the audience may feel like nothing is happening. If there’s not enough conflict, the story can get boring.
If you’re not sure if your scene is doing enough, try to write down a goal for it. Every scene has one, whether you made it consciously or not. Then identify which objectives align with your goal.
Explicitly stating what you want to do with the scene and focusing on the objectives will help you craft it with purpose. Approaching the story this way will help you get a better sense of how the scene functions in the overarching plot.
Also keep in mind that even though you might have a clear sense of the scene’s goal, your audience may not. There’s a fine line between over- and under-explaining. See if you can get somebody else to read your story and see if their interpretation aligns with your intent.
Scenes are closely tied to the characters in them, so another great question to ask yourself about a scene is: “what are those characters trying to accomplish right now,” and “why does it have to happen now?”
Finally, if you’re still having trouble finding the scene’s goal, maybe you don’t need the scene? Or maybe you need to try to approach it another way. Much of writing is in the editing and re-writing of a story. Or, do you really need that scene?

Anaïs Nin's diaries are her most incredible achievement as an author bc she was obsessed with fictionalizing her own life & romanticizing her sexual affairs with other artists and intellectuals even when those relationships were destroying her. also she went joker mode and tracked down her estranged divorced father to seduce him as an insane power play & fucked him multiple times before ending it. but her grasp on Fascism and Communism is really weak and she often says stupid things about them bc her entire knowledge of these topics is conveyed to her through the aesthetics and intellects of the men she devours sexually (and who in turn consume her) not through reason or understanding. she stopped being a joker mode adulteress in her 40s after finally meeting a therapist she couldn't seduce
