Ruyi Roll

When looking up his CN name, multiple variations of the dish came up but most had that distinct ruyi shape which I think is the essential part of the dish?

Our character's bio specifies he is a pork and egg variant.

How exactly that translates to his current design is beyond me but he's pretty cute nonetheless! He's probably more influenced by the Ruyi staff itself.

As with all Rs, his skills suck. As a magic type, he casts single target damage but can also stun on his energy/linked skill which is impressive for his rarity (we're not sure who he links with still)

he has one released skin; I snatched it in his FMO event back in July of 2024. The colours are definitely more regal feeling, very elegant

We don't know his story yet sadly but his backstory specifies that he was raised in a stuffy palace. After getting lost, he found new friends and decided to stay with them at Elusia. He has a habit of getting lost a lot... and his favourite food is cod fillet?? Interesting. His first event was released in Aug2023, but I got him during the July rerun

Overall a very cute food soul, his hair is really nice compared to other jellyish cut / bob characters released. His default is so intricate and beautiful, love the sleeves! Currently my pinned character

the current event with Biluochan and Songhe is actually weirdly endearing, I love ships with a very serious and rule following person and their evil little gremlin who lives to annoy them

very pretty characters, but I think I'm going to just collect crystals rather than go for the skin

my personal biggest issue design wise have always been ethnic facial features and hair types; I would love to see Food Souls with other types of hair or with facial features beyond the classic anime look :(

also, as someone latin american, it kinda sucked seeing our respective food souls have such European skin tones. I'm güera/pale myself, but having Chocolate's and Feijoada's ashy looks be our best melanin rep is just disappointing. And Burrito's bio saying she prefers being called "Taco"?? It was so strange, I thought it was a mistranslation.

Something else I've noticed is the disproportionate amount of darker toned male characters versus female ones but I'm not sure if that's just my own experience or if that's actually the case but I wouldn't doubt it considering I've noticed east asian media in general tends to be more willing to darken male characters

love love love the game, but I wish they'd at least throw some better rep into the global server

Food fantasy diversity issue

Gotta put the word. I'm mad.

Food fantasy isn't the worst game about diversity and skin color... I know but.

It isn't the game with the best rep AT ALL.

You know, I love this game, I love the lore. But this doesn't mean I should be boot licking everything. I have the right to criticize and ask for improvement.

Let's start with the first issue. Skin color. The game of course has more east Asian and European food so it's natural that white skinned characters are the majority. However I noticed that more than half the design of the supposedly more tan or melanined characters are pale or ashey asf. I swear I know they are darker than the white white, but damn I'm as tan as them but I'm actually not tan and I'm white skinned. Artists, please stop being scared to color your character's skin with actual COLOR. Also almost all of them are white haired for some reason. I won't lie about the design some white haired were peak ( Ganache, Reuben, Tomahawk) but a lot of them only have white hair to make their skin appear darker. Also btw the excuse "yeah but you know that not all people of this country are dark skinned" is invalid. Ganache and Reuben are respectively French and United-Statizen. Both these countries are mainly white. So heh.

Second issue, the orientalism. When I see the dark skinned characters and especially the Middle East food souls, they are often portrayed wearing revealing clothes. If you do some research, it's very weird with their culture. "Yeah but the white characters also wear revealing clothes" Que Neni. If you compare the ratio, obviously dark skinned or just the tan ones are a lot more "fetishized". Always revealing their belly and for what ? Nothing because their outfits are based on fantasm and stereotyped views (belly dancer) about what the middle east looks like not the real traditional clothes which is a shame for a game about food diversity. Food eaten in Muslim countries for Ramadan wearing these ....

And third issue. A lot of them just don't have ethnic physical features. I can understand that this clashes with the artist's art style but I swear it's not that difficult to draw curly and kinky hair. You know it's not that hard to download brush on CSP. Brushes that help you to draw afro hair style.

This food IS FROM ZAMBIA but man looks like a Middle East/American native. Not African from Zambia.

And this is the end of my rant.

"the game company is Asian that's why they don't add a lot of diversity." First research, second, Dislyte, Pokemon both are Asian companies with rad black and poc design. Excuse refused. Don't try to justify culture erasure even if it's not done with a malicious intent. ( And Hoyoverse is NOT a role model. Being better than hoyo at skin diversity isn't a feat. It's the bare minimum)

And yes maybe I'm just a hater "You should just go play another game if you are just gonna hate", man. The bar is so low that I can't even wish for improvement for a game that was my first Gacha Game and a part of my teenage years ?? If you thought like everything I wrote between the quotation marks, I urge you to broaden your horizon and learn about these often misrepresented cultures.

The amount of summoning items being thrown out this event is insane, anyways here's what I remembered to ss ;

Getting Baijiu was nice since now I have most of the relevant food souls from the current Music of Peace event. MoP was my first time learning of Five Snakes Head; his design is nice! Might keep my eye out for him in an event pool after getting Molokai

after FINALLY getting his pool from a bajillion tries.... he was not summoned. And I'm out of resources to get it again. Im so pissed, even if he comes around again, I'll only be grinding for Molokai's event from now on☺️🙏

Permanent Food Souls To Look Out For (pt 1.5 of my f2p newbie guide)

Start Souls

Black Tea (SR) - tons of shards from daily tasks, hard levels, and airship. I mean tons, super quick to ascend. Her artifact though? not worth it (woops, already unlocked it)

Milk & Tom Yum (R) - shards from hard level sweeps. do not let their rarity fool you ; they are stronger than most SRs. Tom Yum's artifact is super worth it

Hard Mode Level Sweeps

I swept for everyone's shards until they were five starred just because I had the stamina to do it but here's some important souls:

Mooncake (SR) - super useful skills, better as an enemy buff cleanser than a DPS though so don't depend on her attack. Her autokill skill is amazing if you can link her with Double Scoop. Don't do artifact

Yuxiang (SR) - she's okay but mostly just a fill-in when needed like when you need a silencer or magic souls are banned. Her linked skill with Peking Duck is pretty nice. I wouldn't worry too much about her unless you're desperate

Shop Souls

B-52(UR) - probably the cheapest UR to max out! His shards should be prioritized in the medal and tip shop over Raindrop Cake and M souls. His artifact tickets are free when you max him out in the bar; don't buy them. Pick him in Wishlist if you're too unlucky to summon him naturally (like I was,,,) since the sooner he's put to use the better.

M Soul shards in general should be bought!! they're just so hard to ascend by summons

Delivery Chests

Steak(SR) - not my most fav tank but apparently he can keep his own against a 5*Tom Yum until TY's artifact is unlocked. Not self healing but has a ton of HP so if you find your TY dying even before your healers can cast their skills, think about using him

Exploration

Vodka(SR) - good skills, worth investing in! Just don't get her T5 in her artifact

Yogurt(SR) - not the best healer but can cleanse debuffs on her energy skill. Note : since she can only do it on her energy skill, you're better off investing in a Food Soul that can do it on their normal skill if you really need a cleanser

Shard Fusion / Airship

Tangyuan(SR) - when paired with mooncake, her invincibility skill can be timed to survive nasty attacks. Artifact is pretty decent

Wonton (SR) - on par with Black Tea but if you might already be using better souls than BT by the time he's ascended to her level

Hamburger (SR) - decent damage dealer, can tank at higher stars

Red Wine (SR) - artifact is useless, but his ability to hit back row characters using his skill is useful sometimes (helped me with OP healers) and his damage dealing is good

Sanma (SR) - same story as Red Wine but slightly better

Sweet Tofu (SR) - performs better heals than milk at 2 stars, great heals but no cleansing skills so keep that in mind (don't get artifact)

Peking Duck (UR) - really good silencer, recommend trying to speedcap him

Foie Gras (UR) - her charm makes her really useful

Double Scoop (UR) - decent damage dealer if you're lucky to get enough shards, I don't really like them beyond their linked skill with Mooncake though

Dragon's Beard Candy (UR) - better version of Foie Gras, but only T1 her

Toso (UR) - there are better cleansing souls than her out there but her artifacts are free at the bar so she's f2p friendly

Rum (UR) - like a cheaper Butter Tea but her artifact is lovelier. good damage and cleanser

Crab Long Bao (UR) - even if you don't feely comfy with tanks that can't heal themself; invest. in. him. one of the best perma tanks

Caviar (UR) - slightly better than CLB, love his linked skill with Milt

Milt (UR) - if you can get her and Caviar 3 starred, I promise your heals will be insanely good. I might be a little biased but they really are sustainable

Boston Lobster (UR) - kinda like Rum, but pisses me off (good artifact though)

Other notable FS

(most of) These are souls that can only be ascended through summoning duplicates. The most surefire way to get the UR ones would be to save up 6k embers, then choose them in the Wishlist Pool... but overall I would recommend saving up resources for more potent event Food Souls. It's your choice, though!

Butter Tea (UR) - better than Rum as a Food Soul, but his artifact is worse than Rum's

Sichuan Hotpot (UR) - not the best damage output but her cleansing and engery-filling aren't bad!

Buddha's Temptation (UR) - will serve you well for a while if you're lucky to enough to ascend him and get his artifact

Whiskey (UR) - similar case with Buddha (he pisses me off so bad for some reason, whatever his story is it must not be good)

Bird's Nest Soup (UR) - she's unreliable but if you're willing to invest in her, her artifact is nice

Takosawa (UR) - really good attacks/energy-utility if you invest in his artifact

Inarizushi (UR) - if you're strategic, you could definitely get use from him esp in combination to other energy-utility souls like the two mentioned above

Mangsixi (UR) - similar case to Takosawa

Stargazy Pie (UR) - classic strong single target hitter, some energy-utility but overall not super strategic beyond a good DPS

Dragon & Pheonix (UR) - a better version of Bamboo Rice

Cookie (UR) - another classic DPS basically

Steamed Wuchange (UR) - pretty decent energy buffers but kinda average. not bad! just not insanely good

final notes - I didn't include Team Up food souls because they take so long to even just summon that they'll probably be powercrept by your current team by the time they're ascended enough to be useful. Even just getting Cola made me want to pull my hair out with how tedious it was. they're mostly collection souls, get whichever ones you like

Playing Food Fantasy as an F2P pt 1 : Food Souls

a guide + my thoughts

M — best for restaurant and fishing!

R — best for other non-battle tasks like delivery

SR — strong enough to be in battle

UR — harder to ascend, better for battle (usually)

SP — sometimes better for battle than UR but insanely difficult to get and ascend as a f2p player, do not recommend even thinking about them! (unless you just want to collect them, even then they are expensive)

First off, I don't recommend rerolls. Even if you think your starter characters suck, what you really want to focus on are Black Tea, Milk, and Tom Yum. The nice thing is that not only are these characters extremely useful, they're super easy to ascend!

I rolled for Milt and Caviar (both are URs) very early and put a lot of resources into them... but they were eventually too weak so I had to go back to Milk and Tom Yum anyways. It would've been easier for me to just focus on Milk and TY from the start (⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠_⁠_⁠_⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠-̩̩̩⁠) I'm currently in Palata and still use them alongside Black Tea!

since BT and Milk have a powerful linked skill, don't waste resources on their energy skills.

for battle Food Souls, you want to focus on ones that can be ascended to at least 3 stars : 0 star Food Souls cannot be levelled up beyond lvl60 and you need 2-3 stars to unlock artifacts! artifacts are for another guide since they're not important for beginners. Below I'll have a list of notable Souls to look out for

for M Food Souls, stick to buying their shards from the Tip Shop : They're very rare to summon and I don't recommend fusing shards unless it's a character that is impossible to summon, like Takoyaki and Strawberry Daifuku

for R Food Souls, just collect them as they come along : most of your summons are going to be R Food Souls so they're not hard to ascend. I've been playing on my current account for 2 months and I've already gotten all the permanent R Food Souls to at least two stars

for event only Food Souls, do what your gut tells you : the first event character I five starred and collected all the skins for was a useless R that I just found pretty. The resources needed were like 300ish crystals so I didn't mind. The thing about event characters is that we never know if we'll have a chance at them again once their event is gone, so don't waste your resources unless you have enough to actually get them (or 3star them if you're planning to use them for battle)

and remember : not all of your food souls need to be five starred. if you stress over being a completionist like that, you probably won't enjoy this game. Most of their five star skins suck anyways and you don't get any bonuses beyond making them more useful in battle

note : do not fuse shards to ascend unless they are impossible to summon. this includes event souls! you'll usually see an event soul at some point in a summoning pool, it just might take a couple of months if that was their debut event!

Yobuka Iki's Event maybe in september?

nothing especially noteworthy, not very ftp friendly except for Panini who is... weird. He's a magic soul but acts like a healer, might be useful for hard levels/catacombs that ban healers. best to wait for October for stuff really worth the resources

Mulukhiyah // Molokia (UR) - meta DPS, insane single target damage + splash + chance at immunity. invest invest invest Fitir (UR) - an evil support food soul; OP healblocks + buffs up his team mates, good if you want people to hate you in PVP Milk (SP) - hella good speed & skill booster, heals are ofc decent, artifacts? as elegant as her. but she's an SP so also very expensive Kusari & Knafeh (both SRs) - very accessible souls! single target dmg + stun + shield, but not OP, not recommended for late game players

Goat Tripe's Event (november?)

ewwww whaley souls... I guess a couple of souls are worth mentioning but I wanna personally save up for Tokaji

Luzhu Huoshao (SR) - ftp can 3* him, but even with just skills he's great for catacombs Yuan Yang Chicken (UR) - may require real money, but apparently he's part of the meta? he's running alongside jijunmei and if you were here for the summer's encore party you prob have his skin discount coupon so....

Tokaji's Event (dec?)

Tokaji (UR) - the best DPS in the game... but paywalled at 3 stars :( maybe in the future he's in pools so i'll still get him but :/ Finnish Blueberry Pie (SR) - nice utility soul, immunity + healing + good utility since you can build her artifact with stun/shield/etc. I think she's meta alongside Chicken Lotus? don't know
