PRE-ACCEPTANCE TASK - ITâS THE LITTLE THINGS
What would we find in your characterâs bedside table? His journal, his grandfatherâs watch and vintage fountain pen, hand lotion, the book heâs currently reading, a photograph of him as a child with his grandmother, gum, a phone charger, chapstick, condoms, and lubricant.
Is your character left handed or right handed? Right handed, though he can do some things with his left.
When did your character lose their first tooth? At age six, he wasnât aware that it was supposed to happen and, in a panic, tried to glue it back in before his nanny stopped him.
Does your character prefer pencil crayons or markers? Colored pencils. He doesnât like getting his hands dirty. At least not literally.
What was the first movie your character saw in theaters? He went to a classic cinema theater with his parents and saw The Wizard of Oz when he was three. He then proceeded to have nightmares about the flying monkeys for a week straight.
What is a food your character hates? Jelly beans, stuffing, brussels sprouts.
Does your character have any allergies? Yes, to bee stings. Also straight couples.
When was the last time your character stayed home from school sick? Sebastian tries his hardest to not miss school if he can help it, but he does usually end up missing a few days every winter, as heâs susceptible to getting bad colds.
Does your character sleep with socks on or barefoot? Barefoot. In fact, he rarely sleeps in anything more than his underwear, if that.
Does your character believe in supernatural beings? Ghosts? Aliens? Cryptids? He believes that there is a very good chance that aliens exist, but he doesnât think that theyâre the green creatures from the movies.
What was the last television series your character binge-watched? Schittâs Creek. The plot is one of his worst nightmares.
Describe your characterâs daily morning routine. Sebastian wakes up pretty early, even on weekends. Heâll typically jerk-off, go for a run, come back and take a shower, get dressed and brush his teeth, and eat breakfast. If itâs a school day, he usually skips the run, unless he sets an earlier alarm, though he usually ends up just hitting snooze anyway. Occasionally, if pressed for time, heâll jerk-off in the shower.
Who is your characterâs favorite fictional character? Either Jim Stark from Rebel Without A Cause, or Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place.
Is your character a punctual person? Or are they always running late? Punctual. Sebastian is very rarely late, and gets irritated when others donât share the same need to be on time as he does. He doesnât like his time being wasted.
What is the most used app on your characterâs phone? He would tell you Grindr, but itâs actually Snapchat. He just loves playing with those filters.
What is your characterâs favorite planet (not including earth)? Saturn. He likes the rings. Also Uranus, because of the jokes, but they just seem to obvious most of the time.

Please describe your characterâs family dynamics. Sebastian has never had a close relationship with his parents. Things became even more distant between them when he came out at the age of thirteen, and, after not getting the support he was hoping for, Sebastian moved to Paris for three years to stay with his more accepting grandmother. Heâs only recently moved back, and while, from a push by his mother, is trying to work on mending things, so far they the three of them havenât gotten much further than polite, yet awkward, pleasantries.

Since he was a young child he has been praised for his intelligence, and was frequently referred to as âgiftedâ. After graduation he plans on attending an Ivy League school, and getting a degree in law or business.
Extracurriculars. New Directions, Lacrosse Team, Debate Team
Character Development
Canon Integration. The little we know about Sebastianâs canon life outside of Dalton Academy is more or less the same, like his fatherâs job and his time living in Paris, though  I have added lots of details to his story and filled in blanks.
Lived in Paris
Promiscuous behavior
Played (and will continue to play) lacrosse
Enjoys nights out at bars and clubs, and uses a fake ID to get in
His father is a stateâs attorney
Sebastianâs commitment issues/lack of respect for commitment in terms of relationships: On the show, Sebastian had no problem chasing after Blaine despite him being in a relationship. When he found out that he was, without hesitation Sebastian replied âDoesnât bother me, if it doesnât bother youâ and âHe doesnât need to knowâ. I think this shows that the examples of relationships heâs seen have also not been taken seriously, which could mean that one of his parents is unfaithful, and heâs aware of it. I do, however, see him as being loyal, if he were to ever actually enter a committed relationship.
Sebastianâs relationships with older men: On the show, Sebastian mentioned that the âman of his dreamsâ was a man he met at a bar, meaning that he has had at least one ârelationshipâ with a (presumably) older man. He does have an attitude of someone who sees himself as being above silly high school romances, (and some daddy issues) which may be why he seeks older men out.
Plans for Development
I would like for Sebastian to work on his relationships with other people, to let himself trust and open up more to them, as well as being less selfish.
For a plot from canon, I would like for him to have a moment of clarity, like in On My Way, where he realized that his words and actions towards other people have consequences, and for him to try and be more conscious of the way he acts towards others.
Other. N/a.
Character Biography
Sebastian Adrien Smythe was born on July 26th, 2002. The only child of Adrien and Natalie Smythe, Sebastian was incredibly spoiled since day one, but mostly with material items, and not the attention from his parents that he so craved and needed. With their demanding jobs, his father a lawyer, and his mother an event planner, Sebastian was raised almost entirely by a series of nannies. However, when his parents were around, they always pushed him to not only do his best, but to be the best of every group he was in. And as the rewards for Sebastianâs achievements were often family trips all around the world, he worked hard to make sure he got nothing less than first place, even if it occasionally meant having to play a little dirty.
When Sebastian was in middle school, he discovered that he wasnât looking at girls the same way his friends were, and eventually realized that it was because he was looking at them that way. The day after his thirteenth birthday, he came out to his parents, but when he didnât get the reaction he hoped for, he made plans to live with his grandmother, in Paris. Shortly after arriving there he started to experiment with other boys, and by the time he left, had declared himself to be quite the expert at it. It took nearly three years of his mother trying to convince him to come back to the United States, but eventually, once the school year had ended for him, shortly before his sixteenth birthday, he finally decided to come back. Heâs been living back at home all summer, and though things havenât quite been fixed yet, he has noticed slight progress in his father, and more in his mother, in their acceptance of his sexuality.
However, one thing Sebastian definitely isnât happy about, is the fact that his parent enrolled him in public school this year. The reason they gave him is that they want him to have more âreal lifeâ experience, but Sebastian doesnât buy that, and instead believes that itâs a way for them to try and get him bullied out of being gay, or at least punish him for it. He finally agreed to it once his mom offered to buy him a new car for his sixteenth birthday, a BMW, if he would at least try it out. So, even though Sebastian isnât thrilled to have to attend public school, at least he knows that heâll be the envy of the other kids as soon as he arrives. And, at the end of the day, thatâs all that matters, right?

Be A Man
When: July 27th, 2015 @ 7:39 pm
Where: Smythe Family Estate
Mentions: Natalie Smythe (NPC), Adrien Smythe (NPC), (briefly) Ămilienne Cordier (NPC)
Triggers: Homophobia
Word Count: 1,027
Sebastian had been thirteen for over a day now, a teenager, a man. It was time to finally tell his parents the truth about a secret heâd been keeping for well, his whole life, technically, but it was something heâd only fully realized and come to terms with about a year prior. It was something that heâd never heard his parents talk about, and he really had no idea how theyâd feel about their son even knowing what it meant, let alone actually⊠being it. But he was. Sebastian was gay. And he was tired of hiding it. He wanted to be like all his peers, who were starting to get girlfriends. Who looked so happy walking hand-in-hand with each other down the hallway at school. He wanted that. For once, he actually wanted to be like the other kids. Even if he was doing it in a different way, he wouldnât really be Sebastian Smythe if he didnât try and stand out a little. He wanted to have someone to slow dance with, someone other than the girls who were always trying to kiss him with their gross, sticky, lip-gloss covered lips.
After his birthday festivities had come to an end, he realized it was the time to man-up, to come clean, and share his secret. So, he did what any boy would do, and called each of his parents to request a family meeting. They hadnât both been available until that evening, so Sebastian had spent the majority of the day pacing back in forth in his bedroom, but it was finally time. It was nearly 7:40, the time theyâd agreed on, and Sebastian hurried down the stairs to the family room, probably the least used room in the house, and sat down on the perfectly up-kept armchair as he waited for his parents to join him.
Natalie entered first, followed by Adrien. They sat on the coach across from Sebastian, each with a confused and slightly concerned look. Which Sebastian figured was valid, seeing as heâd never been the one to call a meeting before, but it didnât do much to help calm his nerves. He stared back at them for a few seconds before clearing his throat and looking down at his hands as he firmly clasped them together, rather than play with his fingers. It was a habit he had when he was nervous, one he knew that his dad hated, as heâd been told before that it made him look weak, childish. Sebastian had chosen to ignore the argument that he in fact, was a child, and instead had just taken the advice with a nod.
âSo.â Sebastian was the first to speak, and he had to clear his throat again when he realized how shaky his voice was. âI umâŠâ He winced at the filler word, knowing it was another one of his dadâs pet peeves. âI assume youâre both wondering why I asked you both to meet with me today.â Looking back up, he caught his mom giving him an encouraging nod to continue, and a blank expression from his father. âRight. Well⊠I, umâŠâ He looked away as his dadâs eyebrow went up in a silent reminder. âSorry.â He paused again, making sure to choose his words carefully. âI have something I want to tell you. Itâs something Iâve known for a little while now, though I havenât really been able to find the right moment to talk to you about it.â Letting out a long, deep sigh, and squeezing his eyes shut, Sebastian took one last moment before he forced himself to say the words out loud. âIâm⊠gay.â
Silence. Thatâs all Sebastian heard for what felt like a long, long time. When he opened his eyes again, he saw his parents still sitting there, along with the confused expression on their faces. If anything, they only looked more confused. Adrien spoke first, his voice getting increasingly sterner. âWhat do you mean youâre gay? Where did you hear that word? Did one of the kids at your school call you that? Do I need to go in and talk to your principal?â Sebastian quickly shook his head, interrupting his dadâs line of questioning. âNo, no, Iâm⊠this isnâtâŠâ He sighed and looked over at his mom for help, but she was silent. âI mean, yes, kids at school call me that, but they call everyone that. Iâm just one of the few who actually⊠you know. Is. I know what it means. It means that I like boys. Not girls.â Sebastian let out a shaky breath and a shrug. âWhich I do.â
The angry look on Adrienâs face was still there when Sebastian looked back over at him. The room once again fell silent, for even longer than before. Finally, he spoke again, desperately. âArenât you going to say anything?â The feeling in his stomach had started traveling around his body, and was now stinging at his eyes. He hated when his dad would lecture him, but this, the silence, was ten times worse. Sebastian waited, looking between his mom and dad, waiting for one of them to speak, but eventually he could no longer take it. His dad has always told him that he needed to fight for the things he loved. So, if his dad wasnât even willing to fight with him about this⊠did that mean he didnât love him anymore? Sebastian wasnât about to stay and find out. He hurried out of the room and up to his bedroom, forcing the tears to stay in his eyes until heâd locked the door.
He didnât let himself cry for long, though. Sebastian Smythe was not a wallower. Instead, he grabbed his suitcase and began to pack with one hand and call his grandmother with the other. Maybe it was a bit dramatic, running off to Paris, but hey, he was gay now, he was allowed to be. And If Sebastian was going to be gay, he was going all out. As soon as he got off that plane, he wasnât going to do another damn thing until heâd kissed a boy. No turning back.
