“Asbestos: The Magic Mineral,” New York World’s Fair Source: NY Public Library
The fair was all about promoting new and wonderful discoveries, like…. asbestos. This is TOO much. I don’t know what building this was on. Another view of the asbestos suit:

Resources about lichens that are accessible to non-scientists are few and far between, so I am starting a series called Through the Lichen Glass, in which I will guide you through the world of lichens. This series is meant to be informal and conversational, so if you have any questions at all please reach out!

#20 - Homeback Humpack
Oh, what a joy it is to be a mycologist in the vast realms of Posterra! To wander into the forest or a friendly bog for a mushie hunting adventure after the rain, seep of the Dreadwake or xenotech silverdust pollination from the Tear above the Skies. Mushrooms big and small, edible and poisonous, sapient and screaming grow everywhere dank and moist and thanks to the splendid richness of life altering events across the last millennia it grows in the most exquisite ways. From the crystal singing mushrooms of the Caves of Solitude to the explosive razorback fungi of the Droughts. Some take even more advanced and peculiar forms, like the Homebacks Humpacks, highly advances colony of mushrooms that serve as mobile homes for anyone who will take them and protect them, groom them and lead them to new sources of nourishment. They are… somewhat sapient? The mushrooms that build this mobile colony aren’t, intelligent on their own in any way, but together they can obey orders, follow and heed like loyal steeds, making them a coveted creature to possess and take care for, even if it means staying in the shaded, wet areas of the realms, as they will not leave their grounds for habitats inimical to them.
