curls bouncing at every turn of the head, fierceness in her gaze that barely conveyed the protectiveness of those she loved, boisterous girl who wore her family name with pride, an anger that could be unrelenting when the spark was lit, wardrobe filled with the most wondrous knits, a girl that was always on her feet - resting was for the weak.

arthur crinkled his nose as his brows furrowed with the pat on his back, outwardly wanting to give her an eye roll, but inwardly glad he didn’t have to be the only brave one.
the heat instantly rose to his cheeks as her lips made contact with the side of his face. merlin, where had all the bravery in him gone now — instantly washed away as he became shy just from her touch. it was maddening. the dimple on his cheek only deepened as he bit the bottom of his lip to try and not look too entirely goofy as he smiled. her words comforted him in ways he didn’t know were possible, but they also made him wonder how on earth they were true. it should’ve been impossible that there had been no one like him before in her life — she deserved the world and he wanted to give it to her. he imagined so many people wanted to, but he was honored to even be the first. he chuckled as she rolled on to her back after her confession, as if she was trying to hide from him after. ❛ no, no, no you don’t, ❜ he grinned as he pulled her back up to face him. he wasn’t about to let her get away with those words and not reap the consequences. ❛ molly prewett, i don’t quite know how you did it, but you’ve truly taken over my world. his smile was as soft as his tone, and at that point in time all of his bravery returned. he couldn’t think of better timing than in that exact moment, so he did exactly what he wanted to do for so long. and as his lips pressed gently to hers, his hand cupping the side of her face, arthur weasley knew there was no better feeling in the entire world.
maybe it was the joy she saw in his eyes or the way those teeth sunk into his lip, failing miserably at hiding that gorgeous goofy smile, but it didn’t matter because molly was in complete AWE of him. the kind that she couldn’t even voice without seeming like a rambling fool. laughter floating as she felt him tug her toward him, easily rolling onto her side -- it wasn’t the sudden movement that left her breathless, no that would have been kind and far less embarrassing compared how her voice hitched -- wanting to say so much but to be plagued with a crippling happiness that had taken her out. if he looked carefully, she was sure that he would see how her eyes were mistier than usual, her hand having a mind of its own as it trailed up to stroke his cheek.
what she didn’t know was that she wouldn’t have to think too much for any longer. all thoughts and nerves all vanished as she felt his lips pressed against hers, once wide eyes fluttered shut as she lost herself in the moment. fingers still stroking his cheek gently, eagerness in her craving to get closer as she curled herself into him, lips moving against his so seamlessly as if they had done this a hundred times -- it was the perfect first kiss. one that couldn’t be compared too -- one she would never forget -- one that felt like her last first kiss.
lips parting from his rather reluctantly, she pressed a kiss against is nose -- now that she had allowed herself close, she couldn’t imagine ever not being like this, “you’ve taken over mine --” quiet whisper as her head shook, “you’ve ruined me for anyone else” there was a twinkle in her gaze, there was no disappointment that came from that statement - it was simply a mixture of excitement and wonder.

his eyes dazzled even more at the sight of molly in the glistening light of the sun to the point where he wasn’t even sure if she looked better in the sunlight or in moonlight. he was just glad he’d been able to see her in both. he scrunched his nose at her remark — troublemakers was definitely a word to be used when describing the weasley boys. even molly herself had already dictated part of that word for arthur alone, a nickname he’d never get sick of, especially when coming from her mouth as a blush would creep to her cheeks. ❛ so you’re saying they’re as fearless as they come ? even i wouldn’t want to mess with a ghoul… let alone befriend one. too creepy. ❜ arthur’s body shook as if a chill went down his spine at the thought, but he overcame with a fit of laughter.
a small smile crept up on arthur’s lips as he felt her touch, the small dimple on the side of his cheek showing even more as he did so. ❛ thank you for coming, ❜ he said sheepishly, the feeling of internal heat reaching his cheeks and reddening them. ❛ you’re the first person i’ve brought here. the only one, actually. ❜ it was true. he didn’t dare show it to his parents as they’d have an easy way to find him when he needed time to escape, nor did he dare show his brothers as they’d probably find a way to have the tree fall on accident. ❛ i just wanted this to be extra special, you know ? because you are. ❜
she couldn’t help but roll her eyes -- a smile at her lips despite herself, “fearless is what they would call themselves - i like to call them equal parts devious and dimwitted”. hand patting his back sympathetically, “it’s alright trouble, i’ll keep the ghouls away” his laughter contagious as she fell into it as well.
she should look away -- anything to keep her composure, but the sight of that little dimple, something that she wasn’t always privy too nearly had her melting with how much he was smiling. “arthur --” she started, soft yet commanding -- almost ready to correct him and assure him that there was nothing that earned a thank you and that there was truly nowhere else she would rather be. his words had her captivated - “i’m honoured” she whispered softly. she hadn’t realized that she had inched closer, but it was the gravitational pull, nothing could stop the way her lips widened at his confession or how she pressed a kiss against his cheek before she could think twice. “so are you --” it wasn’t enough, she couldn’t begin to explain how she felt about him and how important her was. “it’s never been like this with anyone --” she admitted, she might not have the most illustrious dating history, but nothing could compare to this, “arthur weasley, you snuck up on me” she mumbled, rolling back onto her back -- heart beating rapidly as she found herself distracted by the clouds, anything that wouldn’t have her fixated on her latest confession.

❛ so you’re saying i’d get along very well with your father ? he must be a sound man if that’s also his favorite, and i do like the sound of that, you know. ❜ his grin only grew wider and wider at the fact. plus, there truly is nothing more nerve wracking than having to meet the family of someone you really care for. his biggest fear as of late now was the prewett family not liking arthur, especially now that he could stop living in fear of molly not liking him. merlin, she has him wrapped around her finger and she probably doesn’t even know it. ❛ every flavor is brilliant, fortescue, i promise, ❜ he made sure to say as he also began to realize they had the conversation in front of the poor man, even if he probably didn’t care about the opinions of children. ❛ — but you should definitely look into renaming the clotted cream to weasley, or something. ❜ he said the words with a chuckle as his arms were still wrapped around molly, the goofiest of grins displayed on his lips. he felt oddly entirely comfortable with his arms wrapped around her, but his nerves still got the best of him, and the ice cream arriving was one way to help calm him.
❛ perfect balance, you say ? ❜ he wasn’t going to believe her just yet, not after her own remarks on his favorite flavor. he wiggled his eyebrows at her as her cone was now in his hands, he tasted it right away and was honestly surprised. so, maybe molly is always right, but he wouldn’t let her know that just yet. arthur handed the cone back as he licked the remnants from his lips and shrugged. ❛ hmm. it’s tasty enough — ❜ he managed before he was interrupted by his own laughter. ❛ i’m surprised, okay — but now you must try mine, it’s only fair. ❜ he grinned as he handed his own cone to her, even if it had become an entirely sticky mess. ❛ then maybe we’ll be able to make a proper comparison, yeah ? ❜
“i’m saying that you both have horrible taste in ice cream --” pinkish hue warming her cheeks at the very thought of him with her father - get a hold of yourself molly, lets get through our next date before we start down that rabbit hole. “if that bonds you -- there’s not much i can do” dramatic despite the teasing smile at her lips. she shrunk slightly into him as he stroked fortescue’s ego once more - she felt rather awful.“you think i’ll be able to show my face in here again?” she whispered, tipping her head back to catch a glimpse of him, “if i’m banned - i won’t do so well” her elbow digging into his side as laughter spluttered through her. “the weasley cream doesn’t really have a pleasant ring to it --” she mused, her nose wrinkling as she swayed slightly to the beat in her head that was keeping her calm, because by godric she couldn’t think straight with his arms around her -- she was just happy.
the smile on her lips was by no means graceful -- oh no, it was victory at its finest -- pure triumph as she watched him lick away the sugary goodness, “you mean glorious --” she chuckled. a bit of a pout at her lips as he offered his -- she knew it was only fair. so she wouldn’t bother him with a do i have too? taking the dripping cone from him -- she swiped her lips along the side, nearly taken back by the fact that it wasn’t as dreadful as she had originally thought. sneaking another bite before she handed it back to him rather confused by her own feelings, “huh --” she mumbled, gaze finally meeting his, “it’s decent --”

he had always been thankful for molly and her friendship , but it’s more pronounced now . this was a subject that he’d like to ignore - another reminder of how he was a person that just happened upon this world - and molly had a motherly inclination to what he was already feeling . “ believe me , i understand.” whenever teddy did see his extended family , it was the same . endless questions , empty invitations and comments that were only sometimes compliments . so he stands from the seat , more than ready to leave the stares ( whether conjured or real ) and head somewhere that ‘s safe .
the ghost of a smile tugs at teddy’s lips as he follows molly closely , a hand absentmindedly moving towards the dip of his friend’s back - “ they do know that i’m spending the night at your home tonight this time ,” ted would never be able to live down the one time he hadn’t . “eventually you’re going to have to switch places and let us be the host . my mum’s missed you and the old man too .” molly prewett had left an outstanding impression on his parents even in the brief encounters they’d had with her . perhaps they were just thankful he had found someone that would take care of him in the wizarding world . “ thankfully , it is over now .” a glance is spared toward the open bar as they walk past , the sight of his coworker busy but otherwise smiling makes him feel better about not working the service . “ the twins know i’ll be over too , right ? “
she knew he would tell them, he couldn’t afford to be coy about where he was, not with what was going on, but she couldn’t describe her need to hear it. sheepish smile stretching her lips - nearly apologetic as she gave him a nod, “you haven’t slept over in a while - i’m excited” passionate that they were certainly not too old for a pillow fort. smile widening as she gave his arm a gentle squeeze, “absolutely --” firm as she gave her a positively excited nod, “perhaps next week? or maybe the week after -- i miss them” the tonks gave her the same feeling she had when she was at home -- complete and utter peace.
“they know and they will be scarce --” shrugging, “seems like they have their own thing going on, haven’t been prying too much, it’s been a bit crazy” she admitted, holding out her hand for him as they created enough space from the memorial. “i’ll get us there, yeah? my mind is clear --” she promised.

event — first second ? third ? date
location — under a shady tree in ottery st. catchpole outside devon, england
arthur could’ve smacked himself on the head for only allowing himself less than a whole twenty-four hours to prepare for his date with molly. nevertheless, the picnic was perfectly laid out in just enough time before her arrival. the same knit blanket from their first date made its reappearance underneath them, as did the iced cold pumpkin juice. this time, however, arthur was happy he didn’t have to sneak around the hogwarts kitchens in order to find any leftover treats. this time, everything would be even more perfect in his eyes. — but the sight of molly is truly what did him in, she was powerful in that way. ❛ — and i know it sounds crazy, but it’s true ! my brothers truly did try to make a mud pie look as realistic as possible. thankfully enough mum could tell immediately, but if not i think the smell alone might’ve done it, ❜ his story finished at the exact moment arthur’s head fell back again in laughter as he rested himself on his elbows.
fingers smoothening the wrinkles that had easily formed at the bottom of the floral dress, it had been an internal debate -- wondering if she could just simply get away with comfort and jeans, but her mum could tell that her hair had a certain shine and she was so worried she would wear a hole in the floor, it didn’t take too long for mama prewett to get her dazzled. she had been utterly sick with worry, wondering if she looked okay-- all she needed to do was set her sights on him and it all melted away. tuning right back in with the babbling boy, she followed suit. molly stretched herself on the picnic blanket next to him, her own back against the blanket -- breathy laughter echoing before she rolled on to her side, not satisfied with sneaking glances at him, “your brothers sound like complete troublemakers” she chuckled, “the twins weren’t any better - the two of them befriended the ghoul in our attic and scared the living bejeezus out of me for a good month till mum noticed the noises and my need to be nowhere near the attic”
softness in her gaze as her fingers reach his, “thank you for bringing me here --” honest as she gazed up at the tree that was shading them so easily, “it’s beautiful” earnest gaze as she took a hold of his hand properly, “i love seeing this side of you”

for the most part , teddy has been patient . he’s still sitting in the seat that was next to molly , watching her finish conversation but it had been several minutes since the wix decided it was time to leave . the unsettling feeling he’d gotten when walking in only grew , manifesting itself in the way his leg bounced against the ground as he sobers up once again . to his delight , she finally turns away and that’s enough for him to stand up with a grin already tugging at his lips . “ does this mean we get to leave now ?”
he could’ve left by himself ages ago , but it’s already assumed that he’d follow her home . the last place he wanted to go now is his home – where many questions were waiting to be asked by his muggle parents . how else can he explain that the memorial service was for a family he didn’t personally know but still had been important for him to attend ? the politics behind it were far too complicated for them to comprehend . “ i’m all talked out . in essence , it was almost like a huge family reunion . even the aunts and uncles i don’t like got invited - ” pursed lips as he eyes the families that still lingered in the front of the banquet hall .
she didn’t need to turn around to know that teddy was completely and entirely restless -- she didn’t doubt the tapping she heard was him and he was very much waiting for her -- polite smile stretched at her lips as she nodded along with what the wix was detailing - a friend of her father’s, she had quickly set her sights on her and molly couldn’t help but be beckoned. as much as she didn’t have the patience for pleasantries, she couldn’t turn the woman away as she went on and on about how life was short -- as if they didn’t know that, the tufts that they were honoring was very proof of it. “will do --” she promised, knowing fully well that she was going to avoid that afternoon tea invite like the plague. “i am so sorry --” she whispered as she finally turned her attention to teddy, “lets get out of here” nodding firmly.
“do your parents know that you’re staying over?” she didn’t mean to nag, but she didn’t want the tonks up late fretting about him, “tell me about it” exhaustion apparent with the day they’ve had -- “i just want this moment to be over” catching her parents gaze as she gave them a quick wave, they were very much aware that she didn’t want to stay for too long and it wasn’t the best move for teddy, “it looks like we’re on our own”

the scoff that left his mouth was more playful than anything because, honestly, arthur in his youth tried to stay as far away from molly as possible. of course he wouldn’t know if she was just as equally as bad as him. ❛ hmm, maybe you’ll have to tell me those stories of your on our date then. ❜ he said cheekily, mouth extenuating the word date because even he couldn’t quite still believe it. ❛ — and if they won’t let you back in here after our little show, then i’ll just have to make you a book shop of your very own. ❜ a little in home bookshelf is what he had in mind, maximalism at it’s finest. he may be trouble, but he’d always find ways to make it up.
he was entirely too excited that molly had agreed on his corny idea, even saying it sounded perfect. however, it only meant for him that he had to spend as much time as he possibly could on making it perfect. he wasn’t worried, no. only a little nervous. — the best part of his whole inner turmoil, however, was that he wasn’t the only one who thought their night under the stars counted as a date, so technically this was their second, right ? that meant a lot less pressure, but still the same amount of effort. ❛ oh, come off it, ❜ he replied with a roll of his eyes. ❛ you’re not annoying at all, and if anyone ever calls you that or says that to you, it’s only because they’re jealous that you’re loads brighter than they’ll ever be. ❜ arthur weasley only spoke the truth.
❛ old man flavor ? ❜ he questioned loudly, bewildered by molly’s choice in description. ❛ i’ll have you know that the clotted cream ice cream here is the best by far. believe me — i’ve tried each flavor at least three times. on separate occasions, of course. ❜ he added on the end with a chuckle as he felt the after effects of the pinch on his cheek. arthur’s legs felt as though they had turned into jelly the moment molly leaned into him after choosing her flavor, but instead of falling over, he instinctively wrapped his arms around her frame as they waited for their scoops. ❛ there’s no need to thank me, molls, ❜ he said in her ear, ❛ but you’re very welcome. ❜ once arthur had paid and their orders were called, he took her hand in his while the other gripped his cone as he maneuvered them to an open table outside. ❛ i just have to let you know one thing, ❜ he began, in the most serious of voice he could muster in between licks. ❛ you made fun of me for getting an ‘old man flavor’, yet you land on toffee ? isn’t that like a peak old lady dessert ? ❜ he questioned, immediately bursting into laughter.
“only if you share as well --” sheepish smile at her lips, it wasn’t the most attractive stories, but she also didn’t ever want to HIDE from him, the good -- the bad and well, the ugly wasn’t something she minded sharing, as long as she could have a good laugh about his as well. she knew he would never let her live her tales of terror down. shaking her head with a chuckle -- date was becoming her favourite word as of late, especially when he said it like that. she knew he was humouring her, but her gaze was glittering with joy at the very suggestion, “now i might actually need a reason to get banned from here--” she mused, half wondering if he could pull it off -- or well, she knew he could, arthur weasley was full of surprises.
her heart was thumping wildly as she lightly bumped his shoulder -- a secretive smile painted at her lips; molly ophelia prewett was never good with compliments let alone praise. she hadn’t said it to hear him contest it, no -- it was a joke and in that moment she knew he meant it. “let them say it --” she murmured, shrugging easily, “the people who matter think differently --” finger tapping his chest gently, “clearly” beaming with adoration.
she would worry that she offended him, she wasn’t nearly keeling over with laughter, “you heard me” nose wrinkling, before casting mister. fortescue an apologetic smile for what she was about to impart. “i don’t doubt that it was made as well as it could be” she very much still needed to be able to show her face in this ice cream parlour, “-- but usually those taste buds belong to older gentlemen, my pops adores it” that was one thing they would have in common - molly didn’t doubt that her family would get on with the boy that was taking over her heart. way too soon -- it was far too soon to even think about that, but whenever she was around him it seemed like her heart raced far ahead of her mind. tongue soon poking through her lips as she broke the trance she was in just to playfully spite him.
she wore the pink hue on her cheeks with PRIDE as he wrapped himself around her, she didn’t doubt that he could hear her heart beat -- just as she didn’t doubt that her curls were being obnoxious and tickling his chin, as much as her mind was racing and she had never been more self-conscious, she wasn’t going to ruin the moment. she simply tilted her head back and rested it against his chest, her own hands laying over his -- a slight shiver as she felt him against her ear, turning her head slightly to catch his gaze -- opening her mouth slightly just to shut it. she didn’t have time to push another thank you on him, he was out of her grasp soon enough. she didn’t have time to be disappointed by the sudden space, her hand was in his once more with a blink of the eye, her own fingers gripping her cone with delight as he tugged them outside. “take that back --” she breathed out, playful outrage consuming her, “it is not -- it’s the perfect balance” indignant as she nearly shoved the cone at him, “if this is a trap to sneak a lick -- i’ll fall for it, because trouble -- i’m ALWAYS right” holding it out to him, “one bite and no -- even when you fall in love with it, don’t try to use those eyes on me. it’s not going to work --” she warned, knowing fully well that she’d give him the entire cone if he asked, anything to keep that smile on his lips.

wecsleys:
their conversation did bring back some gruesome memories — gruesome mostly because they were prepubescent kids nearly torturing each other with their games and crude jokes and here they were now. arthur weasley now had the biggest and fattest crush on the girl he once swore he’d never talk to again once they graduated. if only little fourteen year old arthur could see him now — he’d probably hex him. ❛ it sure does, ❜ he paused, for dramatic effect of course, ❛ but this time i at least know what i’m doing. ❜
arthur didn’t believe a word coming out of her mouth. true, he could be a rather oblivious bloke to most anything — having to be rightfully told as he wasn’t the best at picking up direct cues. merlin, even when amelia had first hit on arthur a year ago at the first quidditch party, he didn’t even realize thats what she was doing. technically, he could say the same about his first date with molly under the stars on the hogwarts lawn. and now he just worried that maybe she had been sending him silent clues the entire time. thankfully, he wasn’t ignorant to it now. ❛ oh, come off it, ❜ his hand squeezing her own as he gave her a playful eye roll. for that, she definitely deserved his loud exclamation of molly’s brilliance in front of the entire store. the burning shade on her cheeks making up for it all while simultaneously causing arthur to laugh harder than he had in a while. he tried to keep his cool as she did damage control, lighting his hands then into the air as she dropped them to show he’d back down and so the crowds could find something else to do than watch the two of them. he yelped softly at the pinch and only moved to nudge her right back, a wink in place. ❛ i’m sure you’ll figure it out, mollywobbles. ❜
❛ no, no whomping — just the willow. i use to play out there with my brothers when we were still young. ❜ he felt nostalgic and honestly hoped molly wouldn’t be too put off by him taking her to a place he used to make mud pies after it had rained. maybe she’d find it charming ? or maybe he’d had to make it up to her by bringing the best treats — her favorites, even. he’d probably still do so even if she liked the idea. arthurs eyes grew a little wider at the words he realized he uttered. molly repeating them back and adding the word ‘too’ helped him come out of a feeling of utter embarrassment. ❛ maybe not to begin with, ❜ he uttered, remembering how horribly he’d felt that morning via hangover and official break-up, ❛ but over time and the more we talked, i kind of realized it felt like one. so i guess i’d call it a date. ❜ a small smile appeared on his lips now.
at the mentions of ice cream, arthur ignored his pile of books immediately and grabbed molly’s hand once again to lead the two out of the book shop. ❛ you don’t have to tell me twice — ❜ he chuckled til they made their ways into the shop. thankfully it was near enough by that even if fortescue’s closed in five minutes, they’d still be able to grab a scoop or two. ❛ i’ll do two scoops of the clotted cream ❜ he exclaimed, awaiting the sweetly bitter taste on his tongue. ❛ and whatever she’d like — i’m paying. ❜
a knowing smile crossed her lips - the kind that came wth reminiscing possibly the exactly foolery that was playing out in that gorgeous head of his. “you know -- i was just as bad” she admitted softly, looking back - there was so much she might have done differently, or at least tried, molly at the age of thirteen didn’t care for boys and she didn’t care for tricks. she would probably hear an earful.
despite her own embarassement and mild annoyance of the SPECTACLE they had become, nothing made her heart happier than an arthur weasley laughing wildly, her own body was shaking as she gave in, hands so carefully covering her now fully red face, “oh god --” she groaned, “keep it up and she won’t let me back in here again, trouble” she whispered, hands soon dropping to see him raise his own in surrender -- which didn’t feel like defeat for him, if anything - as much as she would never utter those words -- he had her. public mortification was her weakness and she would do anything to avoid it for the most part, and yet being the centre of his attention wasn’t entirely awful.
“what a relief --” she teased, the rare crooked smile crossing her lips, “sounds perfect” she murmured, she hadn’t missed the way he had mentioned his childhood -- growing up with his family, that spot meant something to him and that meant more than anything. it was personal -- not something molly herself was used too, for someone to be willing to peel it back and let her in. she was excited as she would be on christmas morning. “i wouldn’t have expected it at all --” she admitted, sheepish smile at her lips, “guess i’m not that annoying then, huh?” cheeky smile at her lips, for once - it was much easier to poke fun, then to allow herself to think for a second that this was a dream.
“arthur --” she had started, completely and utterly bewildered by his disregard for his pot of books, “what are you --” eyes widening as it dawned on her, “oh trouble --” breathy whisper at his willingness to drop everything. fingers entwining with his easily -- she couldn’t put up a fight, breathe molly - he was simply just holding your hand, he’s not taking a knee - your heart shouldn’t be that erratic and yet there was nothing more perfect than this moment. all but skipping as they rushed down the rather bustling street, she would give it another fifteen minutes till everyone cleared out -- shops were winding down and she would soon have a treat to devour besides the one holding her hand. catching her breath -- that didn’t stop her from wrinkling her nose at his choice, “the old man flavour?” she chuckled, pinching his cheek gently before she nearly plastered her face against the glass trying to pick, “too many choices --” she huffed, sparing mister. fortescue an apologetic smile. “maybe the strawberry peanut --” excited that she had made a choice before her gaze dropped to her true heart’s desire, “oh no -- sorry, mr. fortescue - the sticky toffee. two scoops of that please” backing away from the glass -- away from the many choices that would sway her right into his grasp. be bold, molly -- he was here for her. her hands found his as she leaned back into him for a second - “thank you -- you really didn’t have too” she sighed, “but i also rather not argue with you right now, so -- thank you, trouble”

❛ that sounds like a challenge to me. ❜ and truly, he wanted to see her try. or maybe it was a way, and excuse if you will, for her to think about him more, and him with her. as if he wasn’t majority of the time already.
arthur fell into a fit of laughter — a boy as open as any book on the shelf in the store they were currently in, it was surprising that molly could read him like one. he was more worried on if she enjoyed it enough to keep reading, but by the way the giggled fell out of her mouth, he had a good idea. merlin, that was a sound he could listen to all day. one he hoped he would and nothing but. ❛ now you’re learning all my secrets and i haven’t even had to hint them to you, but at least you’ll know i’m a bad liar. my face gives everything away. ❜ that could come as an advantage for her and a big disadvantage for him, but arthur would quickly learn he’d rather not keep any secrets from molly anyway. ❛ — maybe that’s weakness number one. ❜ his strawberry blonde locks swayed as he shook his head, letting molly mess with him was entirely too entertaining for him. he couldn’t believe how much he hated it when he was a child. ❛ oh, molly prewett ! ❜ he began, as loud and as dramatic as could be in the small shop, the back of his hand on his forehead. ❛ your absolute brilliance is what keeps the world turning, it is. i can’t believe i haven’t praised you on it sooner ! ❜
arthur could’ve melted straight into a puddle at those words. there’s no one else i’d rather spend my time with, arthur weasley, it made him weak in the knees and he was sure it was obvious to her, considering their prior conversation. he was doing as best he could to play cool, however, and to not scare her off. especially now that it was official. arthur and molly would be going on their first official date tomorrow. with the way his heart was pounding, he was sure the entire store could tell he was now extra nervous. ❛ brilliant — ❜ he finally said without having closed his mouth from the stupid grin on his face. ❛ there’s this tree i want to take you to, and i promise it’s not boring. i was thinking a picnic, but this time with better treats than trolley cart snacks and kitchens leftovers. ❜ he chuckled at the thought of their first night outting together under the stars. what a mess it was, but what a turning point as well. ❛ thought we might recreate our astronomy date, but in the sunlight so we can see each other. ❜
the grin that struck her lips was entirely devilish -- “for someone who might be challenged --” not fully committing to the promise just yet, “you’re enjoying this quite a bit” head tilting as she took him in, “feels nostalgic, doesn’t it?”. challenging him was something she wouldn’t have thought twice about when they were younger and now that he made her heart flutter, it wasn’t too different -- she was just more comfortable.
for a second she wasn’t sure what it was blooming over her and yet the more she watched him laugh his heart out, the quicker she realized that it was TRIUMPH. it was silly -- she knew that, it wasn’t that molly felt like she was a complete bore, but she knew that at times she could be a tad more reserved than the giddy before him -- it felt good to keep up. her grin vibrant as her gaze shun with sincerity, “every woman’s dream --” she teased, and it was true, honesty was a hard thing to come by and yet, even without him being an open book, there wasn’t a dishonest bone in arthur’s body -- she knew that much. “now i know why you were so popular with the ladies” her brows wiggling, and it didn’t create an ache in her to joke about it -- she wasn’t filled with envy as she had been at their farewell party, one look at him -- his fingers entwined with hers and she knew that she didn’t have to fret. horror seeping in as his voice boomed through out the store, “arthur --” she warned, face flushing a horrible shade of red as he continued on. they certainly had an audience -- she could hear the laughter and the confusion all wrapped up in one. “thank you --” she huffed, attempting miserably at a scowl before she bursted into a fit of laughter of her own. “he’s come to his senses --” she called out to their audience, “you can carry on with your lovely day --” she added, before she drew close. dropping his hands as she pinched his side and gave him a look, “you’re incorrigible -- what am i going to do with you?”
there was a certain gentleness that swept over her when she had realized that he was just as in awe of what came to be, “-- as long as it’s not the whomping willow, sounds like a dream” she murmured, it was simple in the best way, he knew he appreciated that she wasn’t one to need a fuss. just a field and him was more than enough -- add in a few treats and she would be sure that she was DREAMING. molly was sure there was nothing more that he could say or do that would surprise him, but the words that he uttered next, nearly had her tumbling into him, “you thought it was a date too?” she whispered, for the first time her feelings of that night despite it being an eye-opener was no longer embarassement. “i didn’t want to assume and you weren’t having the best day --” she was rambling and she knew it, but she could seem to stuff down the shock that he had wanted the same. “ -- that sounds brilliant, i’d rather be able to see those eyes’ she admitted, she couldn’t find it in herself to be embarrassed by her own cheekiness, the clock that was bellowing caught her attention. “oh blimey -- the fortescue ice cream parlour will be closing soon” by godric, molly really knew how to ruin a moment. “i’ve been craving all day--” she added, at least could look a bit sheepish. “would you like to grab a quick scoop?” tucking away the books she left nearby, she could come back another time, ice cream was more pressing.

arthur was completely full of himself at the moment, or at least that’s what his facial features were giving off in that moment. he’d never feel as great as he did when he noticed a redness appearing on molly’s cheeks when she talked to him. ❛ ridiculous ? i guess i’ll accept that, ❜ he grinned, stepping closer in the same time she did. it helped to calm his nerves, oddly, knowing she was beginning to make that first move — no matter how small it may be. ❛ but i still think trouble can’t be beat. ❜
his lips formed an ‘o’ as he nodded, loving this side of molly probably a little too much. she messed right back with him and always kept him on his toes, even if he didn’t start it. ❛ oh, that’s right, i forgot you were top of our class. guess that means you did some studying into me, yeah ? ❜ he teased right back at her. she truly was the brightest girl he’d ever met, brains and everything else in between. merlin, maybe she was even better at dishing out the jokes than he was at times. everything seemed to come naturally for her in arthur’s eyes. a girl who could do anything so effortlessly, but still make the largest impact. ❛ ahh, see, ❜ he agreed, shaking his head as laughter escaped his lips. ❛ that’s why you’re the smart one. i’ll leave the getaway broom to you then. ❜
as molly’s own laughter got quieter, arthur’s stomach began to drop. he was completely terrified that she’d turn him down immediately, but even more terrified that she’d think about it and still say no. godric, please don’t say no. his throat began to dry as he waited for a response of any kind, whether it be from her mouth or from her body language. he nearly suffocated on the breath he had been holding before letting it out as a deep sigh when she asked her first question. arthur could barely get his own answer in before she began her own round of spewing out questions. now who’d that remind him of ? ❛ yes. ❜ his reply was simple as his smile grew wider. ❛ but not like a date. an actual date. i’d like to take you on a date, molly prewett. ❜ not sure what to do with his hands, he instinctively grabbed hers, not even noticing anything around them that wasn’t her. especially the bookkeep who had been listening in on their entire conversation. ❛ tomorrow ? are you free tomorrow, any time ? ❜
arthur weasley was radiating cheekiness and the most irritating part was that she wasn’t the slightest bit mad, how could she when he was simply drawing closer to her? a cheeky smile of her own painted itself on her lips as she tilted her head back to take a look at the gorgeous boy that was a rather permanent thought in her mind, “keep that up and i’m going to have to do my civic duty and prove you wrong” she teased.
laughter bubbling as his shock was apparent, “you might need to work on your impassivity -- that face of yours is far too honest” and that’s what she adored the most about the boy in front her, arthur didn’t hide. he wasn’t one thing and then another behind a door -- what she saw, was exactly what she got -- or well, what the world got. he was unapologetically himself and that was so pure. eyes practically rolling as she gave him a gentle shove -- “yes” she clucked, a sigh soon following, she would give him this, “how else would i spot your weaknesses?” she mused, as if he had any -- she could observe him -- she had observed him for years and what she once thought were faults just seemed like quirks, what once irritated her had her heart racing. she grew up -- she grew out of her irritation and saw him for what he was, someone who made the world just a little bit more brighter. she could kick herself for not seeing it sooner. the smile that tugged at her lips was etched with absolute pride, “wise man -- acceptance is the first step, is it not?” grinning as she tapped her chin for a second, “now if you can just get to the part where you praise my absolute brilliance, i would say that you’ve made it”
“yes?” she repeated, eyes wide -- heart on her sleeve as she felt her heart thudding faster, her smile matching his as she took a moment to bask in his yes -- she hadn’t gone absolute mad. she wasn’t alone in her hopes and her hands were no longer empty as he grabbed hers, it was an instinctive pull as she moved closer, her smile could be blinding at this rate. “there’s no one else i’d rather spend my time with, arthur weasley” she mumbled, tipping her head back to look at him -- she wasn’t sure if she’d ever be able to tear her gaze away from his. took her a few seconds longer to realize that he had asked her a question -- cheeks flushing as she cleared her throat, hands very much in his, “tomorrow?” mind scouring to remember if there was truly anything on her agenda, “tomorrow -- anytime works” she promised as she gave his hands a squeeze, she was basically rocking back and forth on her heels, excitement had her as crazed as a child with wonder - if she had any sense of pride she would attempt to play it cool, but she was done hiding what was in her heart.

❛ oh, ha ha, ❜ his tone laced with sarcasm as he gave her a playful role of his eyes. he could call her mollywobbles, right then and there in front of everyone, if he truly wanted to, but he didn’t feel like seeing her cheeks burn red, just yet. ❛ you know, i’ve always wanted a stalker for myself. you’re probably the greatest looking stalker a boy could get, you are. ❜ he grinned as he plopped his stack of books on the counter before him. now that his hands were free, he pushed his hair out of his eyes to see her better and merlin, was she perfect. he couldn’t believe someone like her continuously wanted to talk to him.
❛ tell me, what’re you really here for ? hopefully not a book on how you can out-trouble me because, i must say, it doesn’t exist. ❜ arthur gave her the same scoundrel smile she mentioned previously, thinking he was terribly funny. but now, he needed to be brave, because it was perfect timing and he had finally worked up the confidence to ask molly out on a proper date, something that was long overdue. ❛ jokes aside, actually… ❜ he began, his hands properly shaking. ❛ would you like to go out sometime ? like go get dinner, or even something better than isn’t completely boring but still involves food ? ❜ he ended it at that question before scaring her off with his word vomit.
cheeky smile stretched her lips as he rolled his eyes -- was it possible to miss every little thing about a person? because surely she was taking it all in and perhaps it was because she feared for the quiet lull that would happen once they parted, “you --” she started, cheeks reddening -- his compliment wasn’t lost in the noise of her embarassement, no she was sure that it would be in a loop in her dreams, “are ridiculous” she finished, her smile was the farthest thing from annoyance as she took a step closer. he was a force that always drew her in and here she was rather pitifully wanting that hand to be hers and yet she could never justify that closeness --
“oh, i don’t need a book for that --” tapping her temple as a brilliant smile that matched his stretched at her lips, “it’s all up here, i don’t need a book to teach me how to be daring -- it’s in my blood” she was a prewett and a gryffindor alike and maybe if she truly allowed herself to tap into her deviousness -- life would look a bit different. molly, however liked herself the way she was as much as she liked knowing that part existed, “i think i’ll leave the troublemaking up to you -- someone needs to bail you out and keep you alive” laughter soon quietening as he called for her attention once more - it was the jokes aside that had rather captured by him. arthur weasley was nearly always teasing -- moments like this she wished that someone had taught her the art of being coy or at least have somewhat of a poker face, but her had caught her off guard -- nearly like he always did, but this? yes -- was all that she wanted to utter, but there she stood wondering if this was two friends hanging out or maybe -- something more? she’d usually laugh at herself for even thinking of that being a possibility, but his hesitance - the fluster in his actions gave her hope.
“go out like a date?” she questioned softly, gaze meeting his as a shy smile tugged at her lips, “-- and if that’s not what you mean” she added, the panic once kicking in because she was being presumptuous, wasn’t she? what if he just wanted to be friends - that’s what that first night was, wasn’t it? as much as her dreams told a different story -- “i’d still say yes” she breath out, very much implying that it was a yes for the former, but she hated hiding -- at least in this moment she did. “-- but i’d like it to be a date” she finished, with what was left with her confidence. she was no coward, she’d ask for what she wanted and hope that the universe wasn’t too cruel.

her words spark a lazy smile to pull on his lips , only pushing away from the embrace with his friend to give her an incredulous glance . “ so i can expect that next time i receive an owl from you that you expect my company , i’ll be exempt from a lecture when i’m famously late ?” he knows even if he asks now , molly would still be the very same protective person teddy knows her to be . it’s not him complaining in the least bit - “ i wasn’t going to say anything ,” teddy says defensively but his brows do rise with curiosity as the pair walk towards the kitchen . “ but i do have to ask : what have you so graciously prepared for us ?”
the shift in conversation is welcomed , especially when he’s made himself comfortable leaning against the middle counter until teddy is forced to sit on the stool. “ i cannot think of much , really . since i’ve been back home , dad’s picked up this new hobby of trying to tame the small yard we have in the back . he’s convinced he can grow a few plants and save a few coins at the market . that’s , of course , caused some ruckus with my mum who knows that he never follows through his brilliant ideas . maybe i’ll finally put use to what sprout has taught us and make sure that the crops don’t wilt - the plants shouldn’t have to fall victim to his impulsive decisions , ” teddy jokes , though it’s probably no secret that he’d have to rely on some charms than having to manually do it . “ i was actually quite surprised i heard back from hog’s head about the position , but i’ve started to see why they seemed a bit desperate . but it’s manageable .” instead , he watches her prepare the tea cup , grateful that he managed an afternoon with molly for a change of scenery . “ have your family driven you mad already ?”
the familiar roll of the eyes kicked in and that seemed to be a side effect of being around teddy tonks - she felt very much like herself. “if i exempted you from a lecture, i promise you - you would be horrified and question if i’m truly myself, so for both of our sakes, i will grant you a well thought out lecture and compromise with making it shorter” cheeky smile stretched at her lips. “of course you weren’t --” she murmured knowingly, “shepherd’s pie -- thought we could have some comfort food”
“maybe this one will stick -- i think there’s something about gardening that’s rather soothing, i mean as long as the tyrannical gnomes don’t ruin it, which won’t be a problem for your folks --” brows pinching together, “would it? i always wondered what it was like for muggle lawns -- do you notice anything out of the ordinary?” turning her head to spare him a glance as she moved the hot kettle off the stove. “sprout would be beaming with pride if she heard you now -- i think the plants will forever be in your debt” she teased. “dad mentioned that the auror and hit wix trainee programs have relocated to hogsmeade -- i don’t think you’ll have a boring night. i’ll come and keep you company” she promised, reassuring smile tugging at her lips. anything to keep that smile on his face -- “oh, up the wall” she groaned, and despite her irritation, he would be able to hear the fondness in tone -- she had missed home. “the twins are insufferable as usual -- my parents interrogated me the second i got home” she added, “-- as if i was keeping something from them, my mum is now all of sudden concerned that i haven’t been putting myself out there and rather given up on nabbing a lovely lad, which is ridiculous because i’m twenty -- i’ve all the time in the world. i think they’re just worried, but i don’t keep to myself -- at least not any more -- i have you” pointing at him firmly as she placed the tea cup in front of him. she finally hoisted herself on the counter -- a luxury she could allow herself when her mum wasn’t within sight, “have i been available?” she questioned, eyes begging for honesty -- wondering all the same if this was why she hadn’t heard from a certain ginger haired boy.

the butterflies once in his stomach had turned to bubbles that were on a continuous boil. he hadn’t yet started at the ministry, and the waiting was doing him in. arthur kept overthinking and discrediting his own abilities, thus forcing himself into the bookstore to not only browse, but to find anything on the subject of muggle studies and histories. with a stack nearing a height that went beyond even the tops of his unruly hair, arthur could barely see where he was walking, truly just hoping he’d be able to get to the front desk without injuring himself or someone else… or, really, his own wallet. his own vault at gringotts as barren as the land he grew up on.
“ oi — watch out ! floating books on the move ! ” arthur’s voice rang in a sing-song tune. his hair had flopped over his eyes and he nearly tripped on his own shoelaces when he noticed the same head of hair he had been pining after for weeks. he wasn’t sure if she had noticed him yet, but wouldn’t be surprised since he had just made a scene in the store to begin with. turning to the side so he could see over the books, arthur lifted his chin up to see beneath his hair to ensure it truly was her — and it was. “ prewett ! … are you following me ? ” he added with the cheekiest of grins.
STARTLED to say the least, molly found herself taking a step back right into the shelf, back aching slightly and she thanked her reflexes for ducking, the last thing she needed was to be defeated by a book, she could save herself from the embarassement of having to get back up from a treacherous fall. “thank you --” she breathed out, curls whipping as she turned to thank her stranger only to find that tug in her gut at the sound of that voice wasn’t just her imagination playing devious tricks, it was very much arthur weasley in the flesh.
the smile that stretched her lips was embarrassingly wide - she couldn’t even muster much of a front, it was pure unadulterated joy as she breathed out, “oh yes” she chuckled, as if it was obvious as he stated. “i’ve been tracking you, you see --” she mused, placing the book in her hands back on on the shelf as she took a step toward him, “it’s that scoundrel smile of yours, i found myself missing the irritation that came with it--”

she had nearly gone mad -- molly prewett was not one who was satisfied by sitting idly at home, she managed to do everything on the chore list, fabian and gideon would worship her existence by the end of it, she had even knocked their chores off the list -- she had been so desperate that she had gotten ready to de-gnome the front lawn, as she tucked herself into her gear - in that moment she knew she had to get out of the house --
pince could argue that her library was in top shape, but nothing would beat the shelves of flourish and blotts, tucked away in a corner, sheltering her dress from the breeze of the front door -- godric knew she didn’t need a repeat of the summer of 75′, molly was happily distracted -- distracted from the stress that could only come from nerves of her first day, distracted from the longing in her heart for more time to be a child and most of all, distracted from the ginger haired boy that tended to haunt her dreams --

teddystonk:
the giddiness that teddy had felt when he had received the letter that morning was still there as he prepared to leave his home. sure, the initial excitement of going home was still there but it was now long exhausted as norma l home life resumed and teddy hadn’t been able to explain why there seemed to be something different about him . out of some protective instinct , teddy would always chosen to hide parts of his life in the wizarding world and the attack caused amycus seemed to be another thing he’d keep secret from his muggle parents . they’d never understand the complexities and even if they did , it didn’t seem fair to worry them about something so trivial . instead , the male would continue to entrust molly - the one person who had faithfully stood by him through it all and was very much thankful for not prodding too far . one last call towards the kitchen to tell his mother he was leaving , and he’s walking towards the back of their house and let the sound of the city mask the sound of the SNAP of his apparition . it’s become easier with each visit to imagine molly’s house - his second home -
his feet immediately meet the paved ground of the field that contained the shack . since he had last visited , not much had changed teddy noticed . with each step towards the door does the smile on his face stretch , until he’s standing in front of it and waiting for her to let him in . his friend greets him with the very look that had been reserved for him since the pair had met . “ and since when do i have to apologize for actually making the time i promised ?” it had been his intent to offer her a humorous look but he’s dragged into a hug . after years of conditioning , his arms only take several moments until they’re wrapped against her petite frame as if he hadn’t seen her for years . “ i figured that since i am a proper adult now that i should try a bit harder . it’s not like i’ll get away with being late to work ,” he’ll bask in her warmness for another moment ; it’s far easier to live in this bliss than admit that now they had graduated , it would be far more difficult to see molly . without realizing , he had become far too dependent on her . “ unless you want me to come back in five minutes ?”
“since your new found punctuality nearly led to a heart attack --” she chuckled against him, that was the thing about teddy, he had a tendency to make everything better, just simply with a hug, now here she was wishing she could do the very same. tugging him inside and closing the door behind them, she turned to give him her undivided attention, “so we will be on our own and no, we don’t need my mum to ensure that we don’t starve -- i’ve got this” she assured with a confidence that came from spending nearly her entire morning in the kitchen. there was no disdain that came with it, cooking was a hobby -- it seemed like her moment to herself, a moment that she could easily get lost in.
pride filled her gaze as her lips stretched into a warm smile, “look at you -- its barely been a few days and you’re embracing adulthood” she teased, “piss off -- i’m not opening that door again, sit your pretty behind on that stool and i will get you a cuppa” she ordered as she they stepped into the kitchen. roaming toward the cupboards as she begun to tug out what she needed, “give me an update in the world of teddy - how are the parents? how’s the job?”
