Alright alright I always have a bad habit of saving tumblr for last but this has been like, a whole ass week. But uhhhhhhh. I got to wear ToQ Ichigo out finally!!! I got salty everyone else I follow on instagram got to be vips so I wanted to go all out. At a MOTHERFUCKING TOKUSATSU CONVENTION. Kind of, well explicitly, but it was a basement venue in NYC. I went to Tokusatsu Fan Con!!! Solo, because everyone else bailed on me. But it was a blast! Got to put faces to suits for alot of the local east coast tokusatsu cosplayers. Randomly discovering mutuasl on other platforms were people I've seen cosplaying before. I feel bad because I had to mostly cannibalize other peoples social media pics. Not the knight survive pic though that's on shinken red. Most of these were taken by either latinnerdcosplayer's partner/ryurangers or by geki yellow. Genuinely one of the best atmosphere's I've ever seen at a convention. Outside of a little bit of drama towards the end it was an outright fantastic time. Hopefully we can get another one of these! I also almost passed out from dehydration more then once which was not great. That's on me though!

I went to a con last weekend! Got to break out some old favorites.

Last con of the year over! I went to Anime NJ++ yesterday, and always left posting on tumblr for last also. It was. Genuinely my new best con experience hands down. So like, kamen rider is important to me right? I'd be actually dead without finding it when I did. As a symbol of hope, of humanity, and as a reason to press on. Kinda important with where the US is at right now and all. But usually, it's like, one in every 15-20 people I pass recognize me as "a rider" at a convention right. Every second person went HOLY SHIT IT'S ICHIGO. Which granted I'm usually rocking Ichimonji not Hongo. So it's gone from being mistaken as Ichigo to, being just friggin Ichigo. And yeah face of the franchise, THE first rider. But, like you have to understand here. EVERY SECOND PERSON. I WAS FEASTING. IT WAS GENUINELY SO GOOD. Like it helps that media blasters was hosting the con, and literally just put out the 90's rider trilogy on bly ray two weeks ago now. I'll get to you yet long goal of cosplaying ZO... BUT IT WAS THE MOST RECOGNITION I'VE GOTTEN COSPLAYING RIDER. WHICH IS IMPRESSIVE, COMING OFF OF ANIME NYC WHERE THE SAME ALSO HAPPENED. JUST LESS FREQUENTLY. I also got to chat with a ton of other tokusatsu cosplayers in a meaningful way, not people actively cosplaying but people who still do cosplay this stuff. We really really need some kind of dedicated tokusatsu convention on the east coast. Anyways I usually try and save atleast a little bit of exclusive stuff for tumblr, be it a slightly more edited video or pics I didn't feel like sharing on other platforms. I really don't have anything else this time. But it was genuinely a great time. I've had a really high bar set from my first big step back into cosplay a few years ago but it's finally be dethroned, twice in the same year even. Doing this stuff is really refreshing. The main reason I keep my tumblr around is, well it's nice to post into the void. But if you're browsing tags and thinking about doing any kind of tokusatsu cosplay? Do it. Just do it. It's so rewarding and fun as long as you find the right sliver of the community.

Stuff I was gonna add to the Ichigo post but didn't. Blog time woooooooo.

Next year is going to be very showa era centric for me I think. I've still got ZX and Amazon in the pipeline. OG Rider 1 and 2 are gonna get some love. I still have vul eagle but I need to redo alot on that before I wear it. Honestly I might redo the chest on To Q Ichigo too just so it looks better. Also I've been buying peps for stuff I don't want full 3D printed helmets for just yet and uhhhhhhh. I am doing my first ultra very soon apparently! I was hoping to do Jack but I didn't buy the suit for it while it was still up so uhhhh. I got one of those print suits for cheap. The Tiga ones always look good so I figured it was worth a shot for under 20$. So the original Ultra it is!!! Which is exciting, I'm always happy to give showa era heroes love after all. I'd do Seven too if there were printsuits but, nope. Just his son and I'm not cool enough to do Zero. Sourcing suits for Ultras that live up to my minds eye is hard, so naturally going the cheapest possible option is the only way I'm getting my foot in the door for that. Will I upgrade to a printed helmet once I get more space for helmets? Yeah probably. My big thing going into next year is to wear what I can from the backlog, focus more on rider cosplay, and do what I can to stick to my modular cosplay goals. Hibiki, Agito, ZX and Amazon are my big focus for right now. BUT; and I never said as much on any socials, my goal of one ranger from every 90's sentai is also going pretty well. I have the bare bone basics ready for Red Hawk, already did tiger ranger, did shishi and ryuuranger. And for Kakuranger I'm working on ninja black. But I uh, am also realistically doing Red too for that. Besides thatttttt. Mega Silver is in the pipeline. Which is to say, Stick sold me old helmets again so I have ninja black, mega silver, time green, and gosei red coming. Ontop of a kit of ninja red he bjorked I need to pay him for still. For the Kakurangers I'm doing the suits by hand, silver I'm buying a cheap pre-done zentai of now that I have the option for that. Might do the same for gosei red just because stretch fabric is a pain. Time Green I'm just doing fosshape for the chest on and calling it a day on the metalic green I already have. Filling out the rest of the 90s will be hard depending how I actually feel about the ohrangers (probably doing green). Carranger is probably gonna be blue, and I'll figure out gingaman when I get there. I passed on a gingablue helmet because I'd want the same nylon I already use for my reds, and that's more then I'm willing to put in right now. As for non tokusatsu stuff it's just. Stuff I also needed contacts for. Little bit of spidey ideas. Short jacket star lord, or just long jacket again. Probably both honestly. And I've had MK Reptile in the closet for like two years. That's gonna be my summer default if it's friggin 90 all season long again. Anything else will be determined by halfbaked desires and spirit halloween clearance. Lion Maru if I can get a good base going for it. Some indy video game stuff maybe. More obscure literal who japanese super hero stuff if I can muster it. We shall see~.

Hey ya'll ready to see my last cosplay of the year? I already posted this everywhere else about a week ago but; AFTER 5 YEARS I'M FINALLY DOING HONGO TAKESHI. Mostly because everytime I cosplayed Ichimonji everyone called me Ichigo anyways lmaooo. This helmet was my first real commissioned piece but, is also WAY too small. I had to get new contacts just to be able to wear it... BUT it looks the part (outside of being broken in the back) and that's what matters! Not breathing, or ears existing. Just looking like a 1972 upgrade to an iconic hero helmet. So this is basically just me having cut the arms off of my old rider 2 outfit and having made a new bodysuit for under that. And it looks fantastic! Oh this turned into a LONG longpost hold on...

Anyways NYCC was a blast this year! They're still scaling back all the actual cool stuff so the show floor was a huge pile of meh.

Cosplay scene was rad for a Sunday. It felt weird not going as a kamen rider or either flavor of ranger but there's always next year.

Toku wise I only ran into some honestly amazing king ohgers. And I finally took pics of someone else at a big con!

Uuuhhhhh anyways lethal company was a pretty big hit on the floor. Tons of compliments and bits, not a ton of pics but that was people being considerate of the crowds.

I got really lucky finding this helmet model when I did. Though this cosplay group had rubber masks? I was jealous honestly. It was hot as hell in a full printed helmet.

But I lasted 30 minutes straight with it on which was cool! I had to take my tank off though it was a show floor nightmare.

ALSO I GOT PICS WITH OTHER LC COSPLAYERS. Wish I got pics with all of them I saw.

But holy shit last years super sentai at nycc! It was cool as hell!!

Every time I see rad as hell tokusatsu cosplay it's always when I'm not in one myself...

Oooo~ okay that looks amazing actually. Gonna have to try this fosshape stuff out for the couple of pep files I've wanted to do. Great job though! As a henshin hero/tokusatsu enjoyer it's nice seeing gogo loser ranger just get normal amounts of cosplay love.

More cosplay progress! I made the head out of Fosshape, which is an absolute S tier cosplay material. I wanted something more breathable than foam since this is going over my whole head, and it worked great! I made a duck tape pattern and sewed the fabric, then heated it up with a heat gun to stiffen it. I used one of my other favorite cosplay tools, a giant plastic Easter egg! It's one of a nested set, and I've used them on so many cosplays, to make patterns off of and to heat shape foam and now Fosshape

You know I just realized. Stick sent me an extra pair of shin kamen rider eyes for my kamen rider amazon kit (I don't like the sunk in/flush eyes look the model had) I can just... Make a foamcraft old rider 2 helmet now huh. Wild.

Anime NYC was pretty nice this year! I got recognized a ton, great vibes all around now that the con moved months from November to Augest.

So I caught covid the week before a con last month and I'm still heartbroken over it.

I would've just worn a short jacket version of star lord because it would've been like 95f but still!

My plans were, in order. One of my reds backed up (too hot though)

Shin Rider 2 in a long jacket without the normal jacket under (didn't show up in time, gameplan for ANYC in two weeks).

And then short jacket star lord/GOTG2 star lord. Which I think came out really good regardless for being... A new shirt and jacket and nothing else.

I tried stealing the pecks from my normal shin rider torso for these long jacket pics and it looked awful so I just made a t-shirt with a vinyl pattern on the shin rider torso. So I'm hoping early next year I can pump out my entire cosplay backlog out because this summer has been WAY too hot for my finished ranger outfits. Because this heat has been hell. Also I was tired of not posting. Goodbye!

Foamcraft. You'll need an EVA foam tile and a helmet template. Ontop of that for vision I'd get green tint face shield and perforated white window tint and use the eye to see out of. Green tint face shields tend to run a dark green/brown hue like titans eyes in most shots so that'd work for the iris color. Though the original suit had eyeholes under the monoeye, but that'd be limiting on the con floor. Besides that you need all the stuff to actually paint after the fact. So plastidip or other rubberizer sprays so the paint doesn't melt the foam. (accelorant from spraypaint cans melts foam) Any non enamel black spray paint should do, I'd use testors extreme laquor gold if you can find it. Then just a spray primer and semi-gloss clear coat for the very end. And a hot glue gun and x-acto knife if you don't have one already. Do some burner helmet templates first too so you get used to the craft since titans helmet shape is weird, the experience will help.

The ONE time I go to castle point in a non tokusatsu cosplay I run into four rider cosplayers.

As I said on twitter I'm still salty I didn't get to ask the zero one cosplayer I saw for a picture.

BUT I'm still really happy with how my star-lord cosplay turned out even if it felt weird betraying my roots in a way. Plus it was the weekend right after GSA, and double backing it with dairanger love had me toku'd out. Or just helmet hooded out. Didn't want to wear a neck sock.

So the Shin Ichigo was the same dude who was the Kabuto I got a picture with from '22 in my jungle fury red cosplay. Real cool dude! Told him some helmet info after chatting for a bit but I wish I gave him links instead of names. Also his helmet had a split in the middle, my shin rider 2 and the RAP model is sliced whole anyways. Jealous to say the least.

The Ex-Aid cosplayer was in an aniki helmet I'm pretty sure, wish I got to actually chat but they were off to the side resting at the time and I didn't want to be an ass. Also I felt like a dork because I ran up screaming "EMMMMUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" and felt akward because of it. Main hall, helmet noise hell, feelings I know well. Looked amazing though! Anyways RIP again about that zero one cosplayer. It was all foam crafted and looked stealer. So upset I didn't ask for a picture when I had a chance.

I got to show some dairanger love this weekend and I'm super happy with the results.

Shishi ranger day 1, ryuranger day 2.

It was a small con but people popped off for Ryu ranger out of general ranger love.
