A dumping ground for everything, sublime or mundane, that I think might interest others. Or that I want to "remember".

I haven't had a chance to use this yet--Debian only has an old version packaged right now--but it looks like the sort of thing I would actually like. And there's an emacs interface.

Oh, my, how funny science can be. And how powerful belief can be. And how hilarious Ben Goldacre is.

I can just imagine the the sort of horrified fascination the recipes would hold. Shortly after finishing it, you would probably become breatharian just as a matter of course, and find yourself feeling nauseous simply looking at a glass of water.
In the meantime, we just have the one.

The January Man hasn't aged entirely well
I haven't seen The January Man in probably 20 years. I seem to remember being somewhat enamored of it in college, but I didn't really remember much of it other than Alan Rickman being quite amusing.
Fortunately, this is still true.
The rest of the movie...I'm startled at how not actually good it is. Written by John Patrick Shanley--who had just won an Oscar for Moonstruck the year before--the dialog is awkward and stiff. Great performers--Susan Sarandon, Harvey Keitel, Kevin Kline--give labored performances.
I blame the director, Pat O'Connor, who doesn't appear to have ever done much of anything great.

OK, I will concede up-front that the premise of this is kinda cruel--mocking people's reviews of famous works of literature--but truly, these are sublimely in need of mockery. The one on Frankenstein made me laugh and laugh.

They have all sorts of weird stuff. Someone recommended them as a source of bottle scrapers, which I'd never even heard of before. But kinda want.
