I want to ask you all about this scene of SMB movie.

I’m Japanese. When I watched the subtitled version of this movie, ( ENG voice and JP sub)

I thought Luigi was saying “You just got, a-Luigi’d!” or “You just got ha-Luigi’d” .

Please tell me WHAT IS HAPPENING IN ENG GRAMMAR IN HIS CHARMING JOKE and what he really said!!😂

It is too difficult for my poor English to understand what he saying.

Please teach me about this using ask box or reblog pleeeeeeeeease😭😭😭😭😭

BTW, in Japanese,

Luigi said “Yaru toki wa, ya-Luigi sa! (やるときは、やルイージさ！) .

Yaru toki wa yaru (やるときは やる) means,

“He can get things done when he has to do”.

Japanese do not distinguish between sounds of R and L.

So for us, “ru” sound of “yaru” and “lu” sound of “Luigi” is the same.

Luigi puts the two together and jokes about it by saying “ya-Luigi”.

The meaning of the JP version of this dialogue goes like this.

“I, Luigi, am a guy who does things when I have to do! “

I really love Luigi being full of himself🥹🥹🥹

Also I have to understand that what Mario bros said before they were going to head to flooded Brooklyn…

I feel like this one frames speaks soooo many volumes of what Luigi and Mario’s mental states are and what they are thinking in that second.

Luigi: Happiness, just pure unashamed absolute joy to be back with his big brother that he adores so much after so long, he’s just so so overwhelmingly happy

Mario: Shock, disbelief, also even a touch of fear, he literally can’t believe his eyes, he can’t comprehend that this is real that Luigi is standing in front of him and that he just saved his beloved little brother from almost dying.

They love each other so much and I need them to never ever be separated ever again

Yeah, that about encapsulates it!

Luigi's been struggling with fear and sorrow; a doubt that he would survive, and a sense of utter helplessness.

Mario's been dealing with extreme guilt and anxiety. He has always felt responsible for his brother's safety, and not only does he feel Luigi's predicament is his fault, this entire situation is far more dire than anything he's ever imagined. He fought tooth and nail to get here, worrying at every moment that it might be too late.

Finally they're back together, and all that emotion comes spilling out. Mario clings to his brother and lifts him up, shaking him and pressing him close, rambling all the while, reassuring him that everything's going to be okay. Luigi says nothing, unable to do more than laugh as he beams with the biggest smile imaginable, exhaustedly letting himself be held and returning the grip as much as he can. Everything they have felt for the past 3-4 days is undone in that instance. For a brief moment, everything is okay again.
