you're gonna love it here by sadlygrove - 28yo dennis/47yo mac AU - i want to preface this rec by saying i almost never enjoy AUs but holy SHIT this is so good? can't rec this highly enough honestly it's so cleverly written, every beat is so satisfying, their voices are spot on, the tension builds in such a satisfying way. it's a WIP but i've read this half a dozen times - even unfinished it's SO worth a read. i also HIGHLY recommend their 2023x2007 series - it's the thing that inspired me to write mac made a sex tape!!

like silver in the wasting light by depressedbarbie - After Mac's dad dies, he and Dennis go on a road trip to California to spread the ashes. Another one I've read countless times, the heat and tension that builds over the span of this fic is SO beautiful - but also the author is very funny and just gets their motivations and characterisation. The frustration, the sadness, the fighting, the sex - sometimes i literally just open this fic and scroll directly to the scene by the pool it's so good.

Eclipse: the total or partial obscuring of one body by another by bleedingalive - this author's style in this one is so unique i genuinely don't even know how to describe it. it's unreal. they have another fic called fruiting bodies that weaves a mushroom allegory throughout - again just really astounding and complex writing that i adore

heartbeat by blue paracosm - one of my top? 3? fics of all time? set post dtamhd, dennis comes to terms with how he feels about mac. incredible writing paired with the very rare feat of being able to write in the entire gang, in character, and be as hilarious as it is emotional. i LOVE this fic.

too much like feeling by hellshandbasket - THE GUN FIC. if you're not familiar with the gun fic, read the gun fic. the vibrator scene in this inspired part of the final chapter of like dew on the holy, holy vine. set in the suburbs this is so deliciously tense and hot. i also recommend scarlet bed sheets by the same author, the og dennis-loves-nipple-play fic.

dennis gets punched in the face by literatigeek - this is just really sweet, post end of season 15, mac coming to terms with his identity and dennis coming to terms that he loves mac

flordesombra's Big Feelings series - three fics that start in highschool with dennis being jealous that mac and charlie kissed to try and score with some hot goth chicks; next is set 25 years later after mac has come out and dennis can't figure out why he's so annoyed about it; final one is a sickfic where mac wears the Little Blue Shorts. I've read these so many times I can't count.

i'm going to stop here because GOD there are so many more but my ao3 bookmark page just crashed out because i was going back and forth so much haha
