"What, aren't you happy to be back? Learn to relax a little, won't ya?"
"yeah no, everything's great. sure," he says, through gritted teeth, spidey senses going utterly haywire.

âRight on, man. Thatâs not like⌠super concerning or anything.â The sarcasm was evident in Johnnyâs tone as he glanced up and shot Tony a look.

âDoubt theyâre rollinâ out multiple uses. Tâe mutants arenât that generous.âÂ
"They're generous enough. I think this would classified more as a side-effect than anything else. Or maybe it's a placebo effect. Either way, I'm not complaining."

MJ and Tony donât talk as much as they did when she worked for him, but she still cares about his wellbeing. When his name had flashed as one of the deceased from the attack, Mary Jane had cried unabashedly. Too many friends lost their lives too early. âItâs too bad you had to die to get to this point,â the redhead isnât totally sold. âTheyâre not paying you to say that, are they?â
"You really think anyone could pay me to say anything? I'm the one who has the money for that kind of stuff, not them." Tony's smirk faded into something softer. "But.. it's nice to see you care. Though I'm sure you're much happier about Peter being back than I am. I promise I won't be offended by that."

âI shouldnât be bragging. Though, itâs not my fault your dad couldnât be brought back, keep that in mind. That being said, Iâm sorry for your loss.â He wasnât really. Magneto was gone and that better in the long run.

âRight.â Natashaâs incredibly glad that her friend isnât dead. That goes without being said. That doesnât mean sheâs happy, though. As someone who wasnât at the meeting, Natasha knows she dodged giant fiery bullet. If she had died, that would be it. Natashaâs lived enough. Thereâs no reason in her mind for resurrection. With how everything went down, it doesnât seem like she would have been given a choice. âI donât like how it went down, Tony. Any of it. As glad as I am that youâre back, we have a lot to look into.â
âNatasha, Natasha..â Tony smiled softly and sighed. âYou might be even more paranoid than I amâ and thatâs saying something. Look at me, Iâm not worried. Me. For once, donât you want things to just be okay? Something terrible happened and yet we all turned out alright.â

âFirst time I havenât felt like an old man trying to keep up in a long time. Of course, thereâs a few other perks Iâve been enjoying.â One of which is being on the frontlines of the Sinister takeover.Â
âIf youâre startinâ to feel old, I donât even want to know what I am.â Tony had been struggling with a similar feeling lately. And like Sam, that was gone. âThe shield feeling a bit lighter now? New purpose, new life, all that jazz?â

âDitto. Although I could have gone without the whole crawling out of goo naked part.
âThat was kind of gross. Not the worst situation Iâve been in, though.â Tony shrugged. âThis is where I feel the urge to joke about how we have a one-up since we have the guy who shoots arrows working for the causeâ but Iâm resisting that urge.â

âNo matter how he acted, he was just a man. Men bleed, they die. Max was no different.â None of his bravado or arrogance could save him. The fact that he could have been by her side but has chosen to not have a back-up has been hard to grapple with. Wanda respects the Arakki, but she wishes now their methods were different. Wanda and Tony have known each other for a long time. Theyâre friends â to an extent â but they donât often sit down and hash out tragedies. âIâve lost parents before,â she admits. âMy biological mother and both my foster parents have been gone a long time. It never gets easier. Youâre right: things just feel wrong.â But itâs more than Max. Wanda pauses, stopping to actually look at Tony. âBut you. How are you after everything that has happened?â
All Tony could think about during this conversation was Amanda. It had been a while since he reached out to his biological mother, and he made a mental note to change that soon. Tony felt for Wanda, he really did. But soon she would understand why it had to happen the way it did. âI feel surprisingly good. That heaviness that Iâve felt basically my entire life is.. gone.â He paused to look at her as well. âIt might never feel perfect, but you wonât feel this terrible forever.â

âOh itâs my pleasure, of course.â Tony smirked as he replied, proceeding to shove the bite of food stuck to the end of his fork into his mouth. His attention was drawn to the tapping of her nail against the table for a moment, the sharpness of it cutting through the soft music playing in the background. Tony always loved setting the mood. Tonight was no different.
Emma Frost wasnât normally his sort of company. Truthfully, Tony spent a lot of time alone. He would say that it was his choice, of courseâ that he was better on his own, that it was too much work to keep up with a life that involved much of anyone else. Rhodey teased him about it in one way or another as often as he could manage. They both knew that it was out of concern more than anything, but even his best friend had a difficult time getting the truth from him.
The truth was that he was lonely. It was a sad thing for someone to admitâ especially someone who wanted for nothing. Tony Stark had everything: the money, the house, the family name, the brains, the looks. Some would probably call him charming, in the conceited kind of way. But most of the persona he shrouded himself with was just to cover up the vulnerable person he truly was deep down. He had convinced himself it was easier to live a lonely life than to put himself out there to get hurt over and over again.
Even with hiding himself away, wounds were still made. The new ones sat right next to the old ones and found company there, finding a home in the cracks in his armor. There were too many to patch up at this point. But no one needed to know that.
Dying and being reborn had changed that a bit. He was still Tony Stark but there was something else there as wellâ a strange sense of belonging that he felt oddly protective of. The people brought back under Sinisterâs influence all had a common goal and a sense of togetherness that Tony had been searching for his entire life. He thought that he had maybe found it with the Avengers, but he saw now that he had been mistaken. All that mattered now was the common goal.
Emma understood that. She was a part of it all. This wasnât the first time that Tony had thought about how similar the two of them were, but now he was willing to dig a bit deeper into that truth.
He set his fork down as he swallowed the bite of food, and then mirrored her movements as he sat back in his seat. âDiscretion has never been a specialty of mine.â He quipped in response, crossing one leg over the other and perking a brow. âBut this is different. I can keep secrets when it matters. And Iâm grateful to have been brought into the fold.â
Then Tony leaned forward again, purposefully keeping his eyes glued to Emma as he did. âI suppose all I need to know now is what I can do to help things along. What do you need from me, Ms. Frost?â
@mechanizedstarkââ
Funny is the way that the world works. If one had told Emma Frost that sheâd be dining with Tony Stark on friendly terms, she would have laughed in their face. Emmaâs social, but only by design. For as much as she thrives in the spotlight, she also needs to retreat into her palace to sit in a diamond enclosed silence. She knows just how much to give of herself and how much to hold back in order to be successful. Itâs stemmed from a lifelong of performing the role that sheâs very carefully crafted. Diamond is her nature, yes, but diamonds are just carbon refined by pressure and heat. Emma has survived both to become the woman that sheâs now proud of. Her mask rarely slips except for at night, when she sleeps alone in her diamond form. To the world, sheâs Emma Frost. How utterly exhausting it is to be her.
Things have changed, though. Emmaâs rock hard mind has been corrupted. Her entire way of thinking has been rewired, and while such a violation would normally be considered an offense sheâs done nothing but embrace it. Emma will be the White Queen that Sinister needs her to be. Sheâll take no prisoners and pull no punches, all while balancing in Louboutins. If the world is to be saved, Emma must do her part. Sheâll be the leader that Krakoa needs and shake the hands that need shaking.
One of those hands happen to belong to Tony Stark.
Inviting him to the White Palace would have been taboo, so sheâs invited herself to his place instead. Her food has only been picked at, and a ring of white mars the clear glass of wine that sheâs been nursing. Tonight is not about intoxication. Itâs business.Â
Leaning back in her chair, a sharpened nail taps against the table twice. Emma is both a teacher and a businesswoman. Sheâs a shrewd sense of character, and she has no choice but to believe Stark was the right person to let into their little circle. âI have to thank you, darling,â she drawls. âFor being so accommodating. Now that you know how pressing matters are, you must understand that we have to operate with the upmost discretion. Do you have any questions for me about what is to occur?â
