dreaming of an arthurian movie where it’s like. at least four hours long following the events of the entire vulgate cycle in excruciating detail. everything is done with hyper attention to the source material and is super accurate and but inexplicably all the fight scenes are set to abba. this is never acknowledged by anyone but lancelot kind of seems to be aware of it

I should keep track of how many horses Lancelot loses over the course of the texts we're reading for class. I feel like I remember him losing a lot of them.

Do you think knights could tell each other apart by the specific ways their armor clanged (clunked?). Do you think they made fun of the louder ones.

one day i'm gonna go through and make a compilation of every single time someone gets Chucked by Magic in Merlin. It's the #1 thing anyone does with magic. this would be incredibly pointless and also very fulfilling

arthuriana is actually a very useful thing to be interested in because whenever youre in a dilemma you can simply ask yourself “what would lancelot do?” and then do the exact opposite

How do you solve a problem like Morgana? How do you balance fay and mortal things? How do you find a word that means Morgana? A fratricide-seeker! A pallbearer for the king!
Many a times she's tried to save the kingdom! Many a times she's tried to shame the queen! But how can you pick one way When legends diverge by age? How do you make tradition nice and clean?
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Morgana? How do you find the moral grey between?

I taught a class on medieval love songs for three semesters, and the first thing you gotta know is that the scholarly sub-genres of love songs range from "this is a love song" to "this is a song specifically about when a man (typically a knight) has to leave his love his lover when the dawn comes (presumably) because there are societal forces keeping them apart, be it war or the generally negative attitude toward a) cross-class relationships b) adultery, or c) sex before wedlock/without the intention for wedlock"
and the second thing you gotta know is that Daylight by Maroon 5 is a perfect modern example of the latter, and everyone you mention this to will hate it

the rate at which knights of the round table seemingly get fed to giants/evil castles/ominous woods is like that one post about outdoor cats & coyotes and really gives you a bad impression of how many knights could feasibly be running around in a single society of Camelot's approximate size

Speaking of things I need in a modern adaption, I need something taking the Lady of the Lake's side on the whole "trap Merlin in the forever rock" thing. It's time. If I were 15 and a creepy old man with a track record of consent issues was constantly propositioning me I also would resort to rock based violence

Need a piece of media exploring how Gawain and Mordred both lost three of their brothers to Lancelot as a result of Arthur's (in)actions on the affair, and how the last time they see each other they're fighting to the death, partially as a result of how they chose to respond to that loss (Gawain taking a war to Lancelot out of grief and dragging Arthur away from Camelot vs. Mordred losing faith in Arthur and taking the chance to seize the throne from a king he no longer trusts)

the librarians hate to see me coming (trying to convince them that it's vital to my academic work that my students get to watch the shit show that is Avalon High (2010))
