The alarm clock, M&M McFlurries, and UberEats all have one thing in common; the creators combined two completely unrelated products or services to create a new and novel idea. This exemplifies how often the greatest and most unique inventions are formed through combining currently existing ideas. Therefore, it is not necessary to feel disheartened when new and unique ideas are not continuously popping up in your head; but in fact, we should learn to take a step back and analyze the current external environment and create pairings of our own!
The task to create the alphabet out of objects and our surroundings was an exciting task. Initially posed with the idea to utilize household items such as pegs, mugs, and chairs to formulate each of the 26 letters as I assumed it would be very straightforward and easy to complete. However, when beginning the task it quickly became mundane and unexciting. This is when I decided to change my idea and utilize the copious amounts of clothing items in my wardrobe to shape each letter. Because I am interested in fashion and the different fabric and textures that can be expressed through clothing, this posed to be much more enjoyable. Within the images, I ensured to utilize clothing pieces that were the most worn, or with attached meaning or memories. By doing this, it provided a sense of purpose and nostalgia whilst completing the activity.
From this task, it became obvious is that it is highly important to follow what interests you. It may not necessarily be the easiest option, but in the end, will be the most rewarding and enjoyable. This is applicable to many areas of life. If you enjoy and are interested in something, then you are more likely to put effort and time into it. This is particularly important in the creative process.
The research conducted by Runco (2004) suggests that incorporating creativity in everyday life is more important then ever. With the rapidity of cultural evolution and advances in technology, creativity serves as a means to respond to these accelerated changes. Creativity therefore serves as a tool for problem solving and more importantly, encourages an individual to be flexible in their actions. In this fast paced environment, flexibility is essential in allowing one to cope with these vital advances and opportunities. Upon reflection, this is an idea that I could incorporate into my life to add value and improve future outcomes. By encouraging a creative mind, it encourages flexibility and therefore allows more freedom to solve a problem in a certain way that is unique and resinates well to me.

Activating Creativity - Challenge 2
The task for this week required us to create a 3D structure that allowed a marble to travel from top to bottom in the slowest possible time. The task sounds simple, but it soon became apparent that it wasn't an easy task in the time frame given. The key outcome of this challenge was the emphasis on teamwork. Developing ideas and allocating tasks and roles were crucial and largely determined success. Upon reflection, this is something that our group could have done better. Although we each had good ideas on how to create the structure, we failed to communicate these ideas effectively. therefore next time, ensuring to voice our thoughts and ideas would have posed for a more efficient and effective structure.
Another key theme of this week was the left-brain, right-brain approach. This was a completely new area of learning for me and therefore I found it very intriguing. After taking the test, it was clear that all individuals have a differing dominant sides of the brain; mine was leaning towards the “right-brain” dominant side. The group challenge was able to directly showcase how this theory worked. Within our three-person group, there were varying approaches to the challenge; some logical and some more creative. It was great to be able to incorporate elements of each within our final project.
