Poem Anaylsis 5
1.While reading this poem, I believe love is a theme expressed by the author. Now, love can have both positive and negative aspects as a whole but I think this poem focuses more on the negative aspect. There is some sort of heartbreak revealed, whether it be a possible break up or death. I can also take the theme of regret out of this poem. The author repeatedly says “ She loved me, sometimes I loved her” or vice versa, “ I loved her and sometimes she loved me too”. This just shows that he had opportunities to give her love but passed on those opportunities, now that he realizes she gone. These themes contribute to my understanding of the poem because it gives me an accurate perspective of what the author feels
2.I agree with this poem because it just proves how a heartbreak can affect a person. It makes an individual rethink how they act towards people because you just never realize how much something means to you until its gone.
3.- “What does it matter that my love couldn't keep her.”
- “Someone else's. She will be someone else's. As she once belonged to my kisses.”
-  “To think I don't have her. To feel that I've lost her.”
 4. I think the poem is conveying the message “ You never realize how important something is, until you lose it”. The author is heart broken after his lover left him, he now realizes he could’ve done something to keep her.
5. I experienced this type of feeling of having someone taken away from you when my grandfather passed away. I was young so I didn’t really understand why he wasn’t coming back. I wish I could’ve spent more time with him because just visiting his home was heartbreaking knowing I can’t see him anymore. Once I got older, I felt empty knowing I took advantage of the time spent with him.

Picture Assignment
Picture Assignment
The picture at the bottom represents one of my greatest experiences in high school because it is where our Camp Olympia meetings were held. This place was filled with frustration , laughs and tons of memories. I believe the meetings are what made Camp O an unforgettable experience because it was a way to gather all the members to become a family day after day. These meetings helped me get to know everyone on the team. Camp O has impacted my life in so many ways and things like this place remind of the amazing experience everyday. I’m so excited to go back again this year.
The first thing you recognize when you walk into the room is the amount of wall you can actually see, it’s not much LOL!! The quotes are my favourite part of this classroom because I fell that it just brightens up a persons day by taking a quick glance around the room. Most of these quotes are very motivativational which I think is a great way to start the morning. It also just brings the class a sense of uniqueness, I mean when do you really see a class filled with writing all over it.
I choose this hallway to be astheically pleasing because I think it stands out to me the most. And the fact that students painted it themselves gives it more of a vibe. I believe that it represents our school and makes me proud to be at pope

Poem Analysis
Activity 1 - Poem Analysis
1. Theme: what themes do you notice in the poem? Explain how the themes contribute to your understanding of the poem
Theme of Love: I believe this whole poem is about love. It appears that there are 2 people in this poem, one being him and another a woman. There is some evidence that there is some sort of connection between these 2 people because it says things like “ This day, the storm-driven ocean lifted us up in a kiss”. This contributes to my understanding of the poem because it shows how love can be so filling too one’s mind.
Theme of nature: The Author Pablo, illustrates love in views of nature. He uses metaphors that contribute to nature. This contributes to my understanding of the poem because it shows love can be compared to nature, which can be both beautiful and freightful. It contributes to my understanding of the prom because I can actually picture these imagine in my head which gives me a better understanding of his feelings.
2. Do you agree or disagree with with the poem? Explain your thinking.
I agree with the prom because I believe love can overcome any obstacle. With love you can overcome no matter what stands in between you and from success. I also agree with the poem because I think love can be both a blessing and something to fear. In this poem the author illustrates love in the sense of nature. He uses imagery like the ocean, and a meteor. Love can be both a blessing and something to fear because it can result to different outcomes. For example if love fails, the person might be mentally damaged because of their broken heart. If love succeeds, their life will be fulfilled. I believe that the comparison of love and nature is a great purpose of this poem because it shows the gifts of God in different forms.
3. Jot down and respond to a favourite line or favourite image. What specifically do you like about the poem? Be specific, pay attention to beautiful words, phrases and language.
“This day, Today, was a brimming glass.
This day, Today, was an immense wave”
I like these images because it gives metaphors of having a full day, which make the reader think even deeper. A brimming glass, meaning it was full to the top almost over filling. Immense wave meaning strong currents that filled the day.
“A strange door opened, between us,
and someone, with no face as yet,
waited for us there”
I liked these lines because it gives the readers a mystery. In my opinion I believe the people were lifted to heaven and God opened the door to heaven. I also think its heaven because it says the person has no face and we don’t exactly know what god looks like, we can only base it off what the books tell us.
4. What is this poem saying? What ideas is the poem conveying?
I believe the message of this poem is Love can overcome any obstacle. There are some pieces of evidence that prove this, for example when he talk about the storm that lifted them into a kiss then dropped then them to drown. This explains that although the storm hit them while a quick kiss, they managed to not separate when it reveals that “without being unbound”. This proves that through all the challenging obstacles, like the storm, they will continue to stick together. Another point that proves this is in the stanza “ This day our bodies grew stretched out to earth’s limits”. This could mean they grew as a couple to be each other’s world.
5. Personal connections: is there any way in which you relate to anything in the poem?
I can relate to this poem because there were times where love helped me overcome obstacles. For example, when my grandfather died, I didn’t really know what to do because it was my first time witnessing a death in the family. It was definitely one the most difficult thing I witnessed in my life. Love helped me overcome this obstacle because I was surround by my loving family members who helped me get through it. Without them I think I would’ve had a much more difficult time getting over it.

There Will Be Blood Connections
Text to text
In this film, Daniel Plainview has a driving ambition for money and status. This goal has made people hate him because all he thinks about is being the best. I can relate this to the film “Wall Street”. In this film , Bud Fox, strives to become a worker for his hero, Gordon Gekko. Gorgon offers him a job that provides him with luxurious itmes like a penthouse and a trophy girlfriend. But it was all part of Gekko’s plan. Bud was so distracted by being so wealthy that he could’ve the entire Bluestar staff including his father unemployed. These 2 characters are relatable because they both do whatever it take to become wealthy, without taking other people’s life into consideration.
Text to self
Although Daniel’s hard driven ambition has caused people to grow hatred upon him, I can relate to his passion to reach his goal. Daniel did all he can to gain all the money he could even if it meant adopting an orphan, for the sole purpose of maintaining a status of a family man when dealing with potential investors. I don’t go to that extent, but I can definitely say I am a very goal driven person and am willing to do whatever it takes to reach my goal. For example, when I play soccer, my position is defense. My goal is to protect the net from other players on the opposite team. Now, these girls can be twice my size or faster than me. But when I say I put my all into playing this position, i truly do. I do whatever it takes to protect that net, even if it means I have to fall down a couple of times or even get bodied to the floor since i’m so fragile. Daniel’s ambitious actions relate to my passion to achieve my goals

Dear My Grade 9 self,
It’s been a while! I know going into Highschool may seem like the scariest moment in your life so far. But trust me, it’ll all be worth it. After these short 4 years, I’ve come to realize all the mistakes and missed opportunities that could have made Grade 9 a better experience.
The biggest thing that distracted me most was the boys. Boys, boys boys. You don’t have time to be stressing over a boy who doesn’t like you back. Time is valuable, you can’t take back the time you wasted. Be yourself and the boys will come to you. Chasing boys will do no good for you, they will take advantage and treat you in ways that’ll make you “fall in love”. What is love in Grade 9? Personally, I believed I was in love when the boy I like held hands with me, kissed me on my cheek, and even walked down with me to the 116 bus stop. And man was I wrong. Boys shouldn’t be the biggest concern in grade 9 because you have so much time to find the right one, and trust me, don’t rush into things. My experiences have lead me to be more wise with boys. I think the biggest thing I can take out of here is Trust the Process. You don’t know who is going to pop into your life at any moment. Don’t worry about not finding “the one” in Grade 9, I promise there's one man who is everything you could ask for. He’s the perfect package who is going to do his best to treat you like a princess. Be excited, he’s worth it.
Popularity shouldn’t be a priority in the beginning of Grade 9. Well it shouldn’t be a priority at all in your life. You shouldn’t have to impress anyone for them to like you. Be yourself and you will find friends who love you for who you are. Those people are going to be the ones that you should surround yourself with because they know who you truly are. Be confident, but not too confident. Be confident enough not to be insecure, but not to the point where you have to be better than everyone else.
Be involved! This was one of the things I wish I done earlier. Don’t be shy to put yourself out there, let the world know what you’re capable of! It was one of my biggest mistakes to keep to myself in Grade 9, I wish I joined the clubs I’m apart of now, such as HAT and Camp O. These clubs have shaped me into who I am today.
All in all, I want you to cherish the moments you have in Grade 9. Trust the process because good things are coming your way. Make these 4 years the best in your life.
Love,
Older Megan Tillo

Best Experience
My whole life has honestly been the best experience I could ask for. I’ve been blessed with many experiences that have made my life very memorable. One in particular is Camp Olympia 2018. I was very hesitant about joining the team because I wanted to save it for my last year, but people around me encouraged me to do it. I can definitely say it was a good choice. This was my first year at Camp Olympia and it really opened up my eyes to leadership and how an individual can make a huge impact. Being apart of this team made me feel like I had another family because we spent most of the semester practicing for this weekend. I made friends with people I never thought I’d talk to, and making new friends became one of my favourite things to do. My warm and fuzzy box was probably my favourite part. Although most of them came from Mateo, I felt like the compliments I received boosted up my confidence. Throughout the weekend I was comfortable about being myself. I let everything loose and put all my worries to the side. The weekend was filled with laughter, competitiveness and screaming. I came home with a lot learnt on how I can better the way I live my life. Overall the experience was one I can never forget.

Burgers are cool. I feel like you can be creative because there are so many toppings that make a burger. I love burgers. When I’m at a new restaurant I know I can’t go wrong with a burger because ya know you can’t really mess up a burger. I was never really into burgers until 2 years ago when I ate my first Big Mac, I felt so accomplished that I could finish it. It became a tradition of Mateo taking a picture of me everytime we go get burgers. Burgers are yummy.

Unit 2 Activity 2
1. What is your favourite personal story to share with others?  Why do you suppose this is your favourite story to retell?
When I’m with my family, there’s never a dull moment. I have many stories that are interesting enough to retell, but my favourite are the ones with my family.
In particular, this one time my whole clan of cousins went Downtown, Toronto to feed the homeless. There was a total of 10 kids ages 13-21 that roamed the streets of Toronto seeking to give. It was 2 days before Christmas and we decided to bring some joy to those in need. We all woke up bright and early to come together to assemble gifts bags. These gift bags included fruit snacks, juice boxes and cookies! Since it was winter, we also gifted blankets, gloves and Tim Hortons gift cards so they could grab a warm drink. For the first few miles we couldn’t find any homeless people and we were starting to lose hope that we wouldn’t find any, but we kept journeying and eventually found the spot with all the homeless. We all tried not to complain because we thought of those who live their lives in these conditions everyday. It was hard imagining what these people go through on a daily basis, it made us realize how blessed we are to have a roof over our heads and food to fill our tummies. Seeing a smile on their faces made our days. After all the wet socks, runny noses and slippery floors we managed to successfully feed the homeless. Although it was a struggle to carry all those bags, I enjoyed every single second of the day because I was surrounded by the ones I love the most. This day was one of my favourites because we got to bond as a family, while helping those in need. Retelling this story makes me feel warm inside. The littlest things can impact someone’s life. Knowing that I could’ve made a person’s day or maybe even week, gives me chills.
This is my favourite story to retell because I get to share the amazing bond I have with my cousins. It’s also an easy story to retell because I remember it so vividly. Adventures like this help build our family closer which I would take over anything else. My family is what makes me who I am today. They are all my biggest supporters and will always have my back. This trip proved that with family, anything is possible. We captured this moment for future memories by making a vlog. We also made a vlog of this day so if you wanted to check it out (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_k49IrahsE)

Unit 2 Activity 1
How does the author thrive/succeed/triumph because of her exposure to multiple identities?
Anais Granofsky lived a very unique childhood. She was constantly travelling between two worlds, one of which consists of a wealthy lifestyle surrounded by her grandparents, the other consists of living in poverty with her mother. Throughout her childhood, she experienced being exposed to multiple identities that have shaped her into who she is today. By examining how Anais thirives, triumphs and succeeds while living in two different worlds, it will be evident that these multiple identities have made an impact on her life.
Multiple identities have developed Anais because it taught her how to balance the important things in her life. Her father was absent from her life since she was a child because after a year of living in Toronto, under difficult circumstances, he decided to leave and return to India, also leaving Anais’ mother with a child and bills to pay. Her mother would drop her off at Don Mills station where her grandmother would pick her up. Anais tried her best to be the perfect granddaughter to keep her Bubbe, her grandmother, wanting her back. Although she loved spending time with her grandmother, she knew she had a responsibility back at home which was to keep her mother emotionally stable. Anais’ mother would struggle paying bills to the point where she would have to pick which bills are necessary and which can wait . Anais would bounce between wealth and need, ease and strife. After years of adapting herself to so many different worlds, she began to fully and confidently inhabit the space between them.
Granofsky has been through many difficult times in life but has managed to triumph against all the the problems in her life. In sixth grade, a scout for the kids’ series OwlTv, entered their classroom and asked her teacher to select some students to audition. She filmed a few episodes and then realized that it’s what she loves to do. Not so long after, she was casted as Lucy Fernandez on the show that eventually became Degrassi Junior High. Most of the cast weren’t professional actors, but they were chosen because they were outcasts. Living multiple identities made her who she is today and made her different from the others which eventually made her a star.
Anais’ ultimate goal in life was to help take the burden off her mother’s shoulders and let her enjoy life. By having multiple identities, she was able to stand out. Since she stood out compared to the other kids, the directors invited her to be apart of the show. The casting of Lucy Fernandez on Degrassi Junior High has greatly impacted their lives because she was able to provide for her mother, keeping them financially stable. This casting gave them the ability to pay of bills with ease, take trips to the mall and even travel. By experiencing multiple identities, she was able to succeed and achieve her goal of assisting her mother.
Through all the ups and downs of Anais’ childhood, living two worlds have given her advantages after all. She has thrived to become an individual who knows how to balance the important things in life, she had triumphed against the obstacles that have come her way and awarded with a successful life, and succeeded to achieve her goal of assisting her mother by casting a role in a hit TV show. Anais has proved to the world that living two different worlds can be both a blessing and a curse.
