Many moons ago, I did this short animation, and I hated it. It was too short, lines to thick, background was blurry in a bad way. NO GOOD

“Who?” the villain asked. They dropped to their knees without hesitation, took off their jacket and pressed it against the hero’s wound. “And don’t give me any of that heroic bullshit. Who did this to you?”

They stared at their pale enemy, tears gathering in their bloodshot eyes. The villain’s hard expression softened as the realisation washed over them. The hero was very much human. There was no guarantee that they’d recover from this.

Of course, they had so far. The hero was strong. They were determined. The hero knew how to handle pain, how to fight. The hero knew what it meant to stay on the ground and desperately claw at some kind of hope.

But that didn’t mean this time would be the same. No, the villain feared this time wouldn’t be the same.

The villain reckoned revenge could wait.

Suddenly overwhelmed, they averted their eyes and stared at the wound, at the blood.

“Your boss,” the hero whispered. Their face contorted in pain. They squirmed, holding their stomach in a pathetic attempt to gain some control over the situation. “Please.”

They took the villain’s hand and instinctively, the villain’s eyes widened.

“Don’t complicate things, don’t get involved,” the hero said. Always the goody two-shoes. Always calm, always advocating for peace.

“This can’t keep happening,” the villain said. “Why on earth do I keep finding you with knives in your stomach? With bruises all over you? With broken bones. This is…”

“You shouldn’t care,” the hero reminded them. Their grip around the villain’s hand tightened and the hero let out a horrible moan. “Others would have finished me. Kidnapped me. Something like that.”

“Well, we all know you’re my favourite,” the villain mumbled. They lifted their jacket to gaze at the wound. The bleeding had stopped and it didn’t seem too deep. The villain let out a quiet sigh.

“You’re not supposed to like me.”

“But I like you.”

“I know, but you…I mean, we are not friends, we are enemies.”

“So? I still like you,” the villain said. They looked at the hero. The villain wasn’t too keen on hiding their feelings. Of course, some degree of secrecy was important in this line of work. But not in front of the hero. They needed to be honest with the hero. They had always been honest with the people closest to them. “Seems like they missed your vital organs. How are you holding up?”

“I…you shouldn’t like me. You shouldn’t help me,” the hero argued. They pressed themselves into the wall behind them, taking in laboured breaths. “…it’s…it complicates things.”

“It only complicates things if you reciprocate it,” the villain said. They stared down at the wounds. Pain. Blood. Cuts. The supervillain had not held back. Their work was undoubtedly of angry nature.

But then again, the supervillain liked it. They liked the suffering. The villain was boiling inside. The hero had been suffering for months now. They hadn’t been given the chance to truly heal any of their injuries. The villain supposed they still struggled with their ankle. Currently, they were easy prey. Anyone going after them was a coward.

The villain didn’t know what they wanted to do to the supervillain, they just knew it involved a painful death.

They hated them. They hated the supervillain. They didn’t care if it was their boss. They didn’t care if killing was wrong, they didn’t care if the hero wanted it or didn’t.

All they knew was that if those feelings they harboured for the hero were real, if the hero meant anything to them, they had to inevitably, undoubtedly and infinitely destroy the supervillain. They needed to be eliminated. As soon as possible.

The villain took in a deep breath. Right. Being honest about their feelings. They swallowed.

“I am in love with you, I think.”

The hero’s eyes widened. “You’ve gotta be kidding.”

“No, I’m serious.”

“I get that, but now is not a good time, don’t you think?” the hero asked. They squeezed the villain’s hand until it was as pale as the hero’s face.

“Sorry. Yeah, you’re right. It’s stupid.”

“No, just…” The hero stared up at them through wet eyelashes with those huge dark eyes. “Please. Please don’t do anything stupid. Please don’t get into this mess.”

“The heart wants what it wants,” the villain said.

Although it was a poor excuse, the villain meant it. They knew what they had to do, even if it meant the hero hated them for it.

i actually feel quite bad for earis cause like imagine you were a really shit person when you were a kid and everyone enabled all your bad behavior but you grew up and put in the work to do better only for, 8 years down the road, you ex best (and only real) friend who you perceive to have betrayed you horrifically to come waltzing in proclaiming youre still the same troubled teen you once were and that you’ll always, at your core, be the worst version of yourself
