i can see and appreciate the artistic merit, skill, etc about 8 1/2 and la dolce vita but fuck i just dont like them! i dont care about whats happening, im sick of spending hours watching shitty men be shitty. which is not totally accurate bc there are movies/shows i like that follow shitty men. but idk for some reason those two fellini films (and maybe his movies in general, idk yet ive only seen those two) piss me off. i just dont care! fuck off
#again i absolutely can see that fellini is an incredible filmmaker#and there is so many layers to the films and the acting is great#it's not me bashing the quality#they're just Super Duper Not For Me

Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022) - 3.5 stars
A bit on the nose regarding terminally online rich, selfish Gen Z TikTok types. The weaponization and misuse of social justice language is notable, although like many films that include that kind of thing, it can be confusing to know what exactly is being mocked. All in all a funny movie that a decade from now will feel like a vivid time capsule.

We're All Going to the World's Fair (2021) - 4.5 stars
Feels like a meditative and quiet echo of May in how it follows a profoundly lonely girl trying to find something to fill that emptiness. Really beautiful while also a subtle and unnerving look at what can happen when your only connection to the world is the internet.

Spree (2020) - 2.5 stars
I love a gimmick! I know gimmicks get a lot of flack and I understand why, but I think they're fun. The gimmick in this movie is mainly well done. Unfortunately that's where most of the enjoyment lies. It doesn't seem to know whether to commit to being grounded or not and that wavering works against it and makes it more frustrating than not. The message is a relevant one but gets undercut by the film every so often.

Us (2019) - 4 stars
This was very good! I had a lot of fun watching it. The cast is really amazing and carries the film. I don't have any major complaints besides it feeling a bit overlong (especially exposition-wise at the end). Overall, it's a really solid horror movie.

Mandy (2018) - 4 stars
I really thought I'd absolutely love this. I am a sucker for the kind of hallucinogenic filmmaking going on here. Ultimately, though, I think I'm too burned out on violence against women, of disposable female characters, that I had one foot out of the movie the whole time.

mother! (2017) - 2.5 stars
I mean. I don't know. People seem to either love this or hate this but I feel neither towards it. It didn't really disturb me at all. It made me feel almost nothing. So I'd call that a failure! Good effects.

The Love Witch (2016) - 3 stars
I really enjoyed the stylization of this movie, from the sets to the acting to the color grading. But ultimately I found it empty. Its apparently feminist message felt really shallow, which is a shame considering a woman was behind its creation. There was nothing to sink my teeth into. Still, I can appreciate the package it comes in.
