i call devastatingly embarrassing moments "3 AM thoughts" because these are the types of moments that go beyond making us cringe when we remember them. they're the kind we lie awake thinking about, wishing to be sucked into the darkness so we can stop thinking.

one of my favorite ice breakers at parties is to explain what a 3 AM Thought is and then ask everyone to share one. People never want to go first, so I go first. There is something to be said to go around in a circle and repeatedly gasp and even shriek in horror as everyone describes the most mortifying thing that was ever their fault completely.

i really love that this has caught on in most of my social circles because recently several of my friends witnessed me say something to a stranger that was so clueless and stupid that i could have died on the spot, and as if to finish me off, one of them said, "ooo, new 3 AM thought!"

Today’s bird is this rainbow lorikeet I found asleep in a bush on my way to an appointment. Clearly not a morning person bird.

i’ll say it a hundred times because some of you need to hear it a hundred times but the trick to liking yourself again is learning new skills and hobbies or returning to ones you had. it makes you so confident learning new shit all the time.

happy make a terrible comic day!!! i haven't stopped thinking about this post since i saw it. in 2018 a common merganser was spotted with 76 (SEVENTY SIX!!!) chicks!! that's SOOOO many baby. so much success.

was talking to a coworker and realised i could not for the life of me remember his name but i was too embarrassed to ask because we've spoken multiple times so mid-conversation i started concocting a plan to nudge the conversation towards the ID photos on our building passes so that i could be like oh my ID photo is awful haha the camera they use to take these has a real talent for making me look as unphotogenic as possible and then he would say oh yes me too haha everyone says that (because they do) and then i would be able to say well let me see yours it can't be as bad as mine! and he would show me his ID because we are coworkers and why wouldn't he and this would allow me to see his building pass which of course would have his name on it and then i would be able to say well yours is perfectly nice it must be me that's the problem! and then we would have a polite chuckle about it and i would have his name without needing to ask for it and he would be none the wiser and all would be well but then before i could execute this fine plan a little voice in my head went "so this is some light yagami bull shit you are about to pull" which was such a violent reality check it shocked me completely out of my embarrassment and i went "hey im so sorry your name has slipped my mind could you remind me" and he did and it was fine.

Throwback Thursday: It was 5 years ago when we were celebrating award season for The Shape Of Water, and I got to live my dream of being in an old musical dance number (dressed as an Amphibian Man, of course) with the amazing Sally Hawkins.
