i want to gatekeep mike wheeler from fans who hated him the last two seasons. people who thought the show had a “mike problem” and that he was simply an unlikeable, poorly written character. if you don’t love him at his depression and internalized homophobia, you don’t deserve protective paladin leader mike who gets the boy!!!!!

Me when season 5 of stranger things comes out and everyone is alive and saves hawkins with the power of friendship and then Mike says "Hey, Byers!" and then kisses Will on the mouth as El smiles and giggles at their beautiful display of gay affection. Then Will gets flustered and shy and says sorry for making out in front of everyone and then Max who is alive says, "It's okay, Will. We've seen stranger things."

Lucas definitely knows that there’s something between Mike and Will
Like, he’s been there for it all. He’s was the first one to witness their dynamic, being the 3rd member of the party. He saw how their friendship looked more like soulmates than anything else. He watched Mike go deathly serious when talking to the cops about where Will might’ve gone missing. He watched as Mike absolutely lost his mind when they found Will’s “body”. He watched him hold out an incredibly delusional hope that he was still out there, even as they were planning a funeral. And he was there when Will came back, and Mike started noticing every little detail about Will and his behavior.
He watched the two of them hang back, together in their own little world as the party trick or treated. He watched Mike protecting Will from Dart. He was there when Mike refused to let anyone touch Will when he started having episodes, and when the episodes turned into something serious, Lucas didn’t see Mike or Will for days. Surely they were together though. Lucas saw how Joyce and Jonathan agreed quietly that Mike needed to be there as they tried to break Will out of his possession. He watched Mike immediately shoot down the idea of closing the gate, because it might kill Will.
He was there when Mike started dating El, and he was proud of Mike for finally getting a girlfriend, but even he could see how their relationship was flawed. But he still quietly watched as Mike and Will always tucked next to each other perfectly when they went to the movies as a group.
And i think the moment it clicked for him was watching Will scream at Mike in the basement. He watched them both disappear upstairs after him and Mike were being dickheads. Lucas was just as responsible for pushing Will away, but for some reason this was more than that. There was something MORE between Mike and Will. This was between them. So as he watched Mike come back down the stairs to grab his backpack, dejected and clearly upset, Lucas knew that something was happening.
Lucas watched as Mike didn’t even pull up the hood of his jacket before biking out into the downpour, and when they finally made it to Will’s house, there’s really no reason for Lucas to even be there. Theres no way the thought didn’t cross his mind, even ONCE, that Mike should probably be putting this much energy into apologizing to his girlfriend. Not Will.
He knows that Will and Mike are so much more than whatever Mike and El have.
When Will and El leave for Lenora, Mike becomes miserable. He falls into a depression, not leaving his basement, sleeping and eating down there. Like a prison he built himself, lined with Will’s drawings. The only thing that was getting him out of the house was Hellfire club, and Lucas could tell that it was just to fill the Wizard shaped hole in his life. Lucas knows there’s something there, but theres no way he’d ever say anything.

When people think the duo i'm most excited to see in Season 5 is Mike and Will because i'm a byler shipper, but then i pull this dynamic duo:

We were robbed of their friendship since Season 2. I know, Season 3 they were glued to each other all the time, but it was them being two dingus joking around; and in Season 4 they had a disagreement in the first episode then hugged in the last one, kinda underwhelming. So i'm loving to see how close they are to each other this season. I loved the dynamic they had in the first season, where they're clearly best friends but disagree a lot and fight, and as Caleb said in an interview last year, this season will show how close they're, and he said that they're like brothers. I just hope they don't fight as much as in the first season, lmao. Some disagreements here and there are okay.

i want the show to set up a homophobic-bullies-plot
and i want it to be them bothering Will, only a little bit. nothing crazy just a couple rude comments.
but then i want it to look like it's building up to something worse.
Like you can tell it's going to escalate because one day we see the group of bullies after dark, sneaking into the school with cans of spray paint. they laugh maliciously as they paint something like "fag" or "queer" on his locker, and I want the audience to think "oh no, poor Will :("
The next day the party walks into the school hallway to see a bunch of people gathered around--
--Mike's locker.
It wasn't Will's. It was Mike's.

mike is so fucking smart actually. they couldn’t have done half the shit in the show without him. he’s the one who figured out about the upside down, he’s the one who figured out that will is connected to the mind flayer which means he will die with it, he’s the one who figured out the number was in the pen.
people don’t give him enough credit and i’m sick of it. (if he was there in s4 i’m sure the plan wouldn’t have gone to shit THAT bad)

people fixate so much on proving mike is gay they miss out on like 80% of the rest of his character. and it's fine to focus and post about that aspect of a character, but it becomes a problem when you start saying the only way for his character to be saved is to make him gay and in love with will. by saying this you are reducing mike's character. you are missing the bigger parts that are just as crucial to completing his story. only making mike gay and that's all it was is not a satisfying way of ending his character. there are still other many questions and concerns about his character that have nothing to do with his sexuality. if those don't get answered or explained, i still wouldn't be happy, even if mike is gay.

i wish people would understand that finn isn't lying when he says mike's clueless. he explains specifically what he means by that. he said his depression cuts him off from seeing whats in front of him. i used to believe mike was 100% certain of his feelings for will, but now i came to understand what finn himself is saying about mike, and that we should probably actually listen. and even outside of what finn said, it's clear mike isn't doing well at all mentally throughout s4. what finn is saying still adds up. i really don't think romance is on mike's radar as much as people think, and that doesn't make him stupid. it just means, surprise, he actually has a character outside of ships. depression can block out so many things. he's going through it and finn is trying to tell you that!!

I really think that AT LEAST the original four (Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin) are safe
I genuinely GENUINELY dont believe any of the main crew are going to die, i will be shocked as heck if someone does.
I will probably post my full thoughts at some point but honestly it doesnt makes sense for the duffers. They've never killed off a main character before (they seem to all have plot armor atp) for example El (who was originally supposed to die), Hopper, Brenner etc. If someone stays around for more than one season, chances are, they'll stay forever.
I cant see any of them writing their arcs and just killing them off. It seems dumb, bad writing, and just for shock value. I mean i would hope if it does happens, it actually has meaning and drastically affects the other characters.
I wouldnt want to see a barb death with Dustin yk?
For me, Jon, Steve, Dustin, Mike, Will, Joyce, Lucas, Nancy, Robin, Vickie, Hopper, El are not going to die. Or i at least dont expect them to

Can we talk about how after the rain fight, Mike had to explain himself to Lucas. He probably went back down to the basement, not making eye contact and said, “I fucked up. We gotta go.”
And Lucas just stares up at him, not really processing whats going on. “What?” He asks, watching Mike grab his backpack off the couch.
Mike looks back at him, urgency and frustration now radiating off him. “We gotta go! Lets go! I fucked up and he left and we’re following him.”
“Oh shit! ok…” Lucas replies, standing up and grabbing his stuff. “What did you do??”
Mike’s already running back up the stairs though, so Lucas is pretty much left in the dark on why Will left. Because we all know if Lucas knew what Mike had said, he would’ve kicked him in the dick.
