“My dude, you’re lucky if I remember my name, I cannot answer any questions anymore, just give me something cold and sweet. Does not matter what form it’s in.” Teddy chuckled, leaning forward more on the counter as Mikey straightened. 

Mikey laughed, fixing Teddy a milkshake easily enough, loading it up with a couple different kinds of chocolate before he slid it onto the mixer. 

“Where’s Baz at?” He looked over his shoulder to Teddy. “Usually he’s like your creepy 6′5 shadow.”

“If I had to, yes. He’s the closest thing I’ve got to a family, and I absolutely cannot lose him now.”

“Honorable discharge.” He chuckled, hugging Mikey tight and kissing the top of his head. 

“Really. Just to see you, kiddo. What are you still doing here? This place isn’t exactly ideal.”

“An honourable discharge... so... you’re a veteran? No more going away and me having to write you letters you probably don’t read?” 

He bounced on his toes a bit, excited at the prospect.

“I mean, dad told me to stay. He pays the rent on this place, and I can’t afford to go anywhere else.” He shifted his weight a bit, awkward. “Plus, he kept my passport. I can’t leave even if I wanted to.”

Nash’s arms were already open, of course, having anticipated this reaction. He grunted softly and hugged the boy back with a laugh.

“Hey, kiddo. Of course, I’m here, like I’d ever not come and visit you.”

“I thought you were still deployed! I just sent you another letter like last week!” He wasn’t complaining, of course, squeezing Nash.

“What are you doing here? Did you come all this way just to see me? Really?”

“A little bit of both, actually.” Teddy smiled back, hopping up onto a stool. 

“I just tested out of four of my courses and it feels like my brain is bleeding so the only obvious solution is ice cream. And head pats from my best friend.”

“Woah! Four courses?” Mikey seemed equal parts amazed and proud. 

“Does that deserve... milkshake, or sundae?”

He straightened, ready to fix Teddy whatever he wanted.

His tour was finally over, an honorable discharge thanks to a bullet in his shoulder, a long week in enemy hands, and a burgeoning case of ptsd. Now he was free to worry about himself, and more importantly, Mikey. With a little searching, Nash found Mikey’s place and knocked on the door,  bag thrown over his shoulder. 

“Shhh, stop barking! I’m sure it’s the mailman!” Mikey chided his dogs, trying to make his way to the front door, weaving between the three pits to accomplish that.

He pulled open the door, widening his eyes at who was on the other side. “Nash! Oh my gosh!” He squealed, rushing forward and hugging the man tightly. 

“You’re here! Hi!”

Trying to act cool was a constant struggle for Teddy, but he sort of managed to smoothly lean against the counter in front of his friend. “Excuse me, I’d like to file a formal complaint. You see, your uniform is far too cute for my gay heart to handle.”

That got a giggle out of Mikey, cheeks turning pink. “Hi, Teddy.”

He leaned against the counter on the opposite side, grinning at him. “Are you here for ice cream, or just admiring the view?”
