Dan's 3D tips - Why do we need to decimate models?
A high resolution sculpt used for texture baking can reach upwards of a million polygons, especially for realism models with fine wrinkles and skin detail. This model is 4.9 million polys. A polycount that simply can't be loaded in by Maya (and Blender would probably struggle too), so it will be decimated down to around ~200-400k polys. Once decimated, the model will be retopologized to be animation-ready.
When the animation-ready model is complete and UV mapped, the high-res details will be baked onto the normal map, creating the illusion of fine detail but keeping the clean topology intact!

The clothes were ~1 million polys before, after decimation they're around 500k, and Maya happily imported them. Now they need to be retopologized to be animation ready.
